Given the history of superhero video games im not touching Arkham Asylum, now if DC and arc sysytems or snk or capcom would like to get off there lazy asses and make an MVC sequel or a real DC fighting game im all for it!!
But historys not to forgiving on this one so ill just chalk it up to the game.
You know Arkham Asylum is gonna be great storyline wise when Paul Dini is in charge of it.
The demo is kind of easy, but highly entertaining, especially for fanboys.
In Batman & Robin #2 what happened to Sasha?–you know the girl that was about to get her face "dolled"up? In fact what happened in the whole issue?
That was her in the cage warning Robin to look out from behind.
Well it has nothing to do with laziness, this time around lol! A sequel to MVC is all about rights issues. Capcom currently only has the rights to re-release MVC2 (which they couldn’t do before thanks to something in EA’s contract). Both Marvel and Capcom want to make MVC3 and have expressed interest in doing so. It’s just a bit trickier to do now because of the Marvel movies making bank and different video game companies having rights to different things. Remember back when Capcom made their Marvel video games, Marvel was bankrupt and they could do pretty much whatever they wanted to. Marvel has crazy money nowadays, it’s different.
Capcom just says if MVC2 does well via DL, they’ll see about a sequel and that’s it for now.
I doubt SNKP has the kind of money needed to purchase the rights to either Marvel or DC characters. They are a much smaller company than Capcom and hardly ever participate in making games for different anime, manga, comics, cartoons etc. the way Capcom has in the past.
Arc/Sammy has done some merchandising with Hokuto No Ken, but that’s really because Sega bought them out and they already had the video game rights to HNK (AKA Fist of the North Star). Arc did make the Sengoku Basara X fighter for Capcom so it’s not like they can’t be involved somehow.
As for DC or a Marvel vs. DC game, Paul Levitz has refused to do ANY crossover with Marvel until Joe Quesada resigns as EIC. Whether or not this extends to video games I do not know. Though yes the rights for DC characters are at times more complex than Marvel ones. For example Captain Marvel was almost not going to be in MK vs. DC because DC doesn’t entirely own the rights to him. On top of that, WB/DC is known to restrict certain characters with self emposed bargos to complicate things further. See the lack of Batman villains on the last season JLU. Or why Batman has not shown up on Smallville.
Heh, WB owns the Mortal Kombat characters too now. Either Paul Levitz or Joe Quesada quit so we can get SF/MK vs. Marvel / DC!!! Eh it’s fun to dream.
Hopefully I’ll be able to have a non mugen Captain America vs. Batman video game fight in my lifetime.
if Marvel vs. DC was ever made, Batman’s assist would just be to shut down your opponent’s any move then say “I’m Batman” and leave.
After having watched TDK again and playing the Arkham Asylum demo, I want to get into the comics. Which graphic novels do you think all Batman fan should read? Or any particular writers? On amazon they got Year One and The Dark Knight for about 10 bucks. I don’t know about comic prices but that seems cheap and the premises sound pretty cool so I’ll probably pick up those at least.
That’s pretty much all you need… Also look for Batman: Broken City by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso. Then you can just spend the rest of your life in pursuit of more Batman stories that can live up to those three.
City of Crime
Batman and the Monster Men
Batmen and the Mad Monk
Blades
Faces
Anyone picked up Batman: Blackest Night mini yet? Curious to see if it’s worth the cash.
Only one issue is out but yeah, it’s good. There’s plenty of moments of dialog with DG and Damian amongst all of the crossover stuff. A funny moment when Deadman enters Damian’s body/mind, comes out of it and tells DG how screwed up Damian is and what an uphill battle he is going to have trying to raise him. DG tells him to “Shut up!” and Deadman says “Now you’re sounding like Batman!”
It’s written by Tomasi who had a really good run on Nightwing before it ended, so no real worries about him writing Dick Grayson and the Bat Family the wrong way or anything.
Hey Sano mad props for the breakdown on the fighting game possibilities!! that was great i never knew alot of that information. But yeah id love to catch a Batman vs taskmaster fight or Batman vs daredevil thatd b so intense maybe moonknight vs nightwing or Punisher vs the Question ohh the dreams…
But as far as the bats goes i just hope he comes back soon maybe even through blackest night somehow maybe some multiverse shit!!
And not to stomp on any toes but, fuck joe quesada’s fat ugly ass!! hes a douchebag ill take stan lee over him any day: secret invasion was total shit and making house of m into some dream that barely happend was bullshit only Civil War World war hulk and annihalation were worth a shit If he hadnt brought thor back id say screw Marvel totally!!
Im still trying to figure out where there gonna go with damien?
And in my personal opinion they need to make Terry Mcguiness aka Batman Beyond and Vergil Hawkins aka Static shock official canon in the DCU.
I mean hell Terry is Bruce Wayne nearly and we all know hes the only to reach Batmans Tier of skills and abilities though he doesnt quite have the intellect and Statics just balls awesome!! he pops up in a few books here and there and terrys universe is part of the multiverse in the DCU encyclopedia so cmon DC CMON!!
Sorry for the rant i just get amped up about the batmans.
Yeah when JQ first became EIC, he wanted to bring the Marvel / DC rivalry they had from the 80s on down. He felt both companies did better when they were enemies (they were very friendly in the 90s hence a bunch of crossovers) so he went after DC pretty hard.
He claimed Smallville was a rip off of their Ultimate Line. He visited The NY School of Visual Arts where Joey Cavilieri teaches and dissed his underground Bizzaro book that he edited by saying, “DC is owned by Warner Bros. so they can afford to put out a 30 dollar hardcover book that no one will buy. Marvel can’t take chances like that!” That’s just the stuff I remember. Paul Levitz took a lot of the attacks personal (but some of it did seem personal, I do think JQ just wanted the rivalry back) and that’s where the current beef started.
Avengers / JLA was supposed to be the last crossover. Now that both companies are doing well (Marvel still has more of the market share) JQ didn’t mind doing a Daredevil / Batman project (I believe Bendis wants to write it IIRC) but Paul Levitz is still sticking to his guns.
At one point DC wanted to continue Avengers/JLA… Without the Avengers! Man I would’ve loved to see that! “Hey remember that guy with a shield?” “Yeah his name is… Uh oh Darkseid is attacking!” They never went through with it. Don’t know if it was for legal reasons or someone told them that’s… I dunno dumb? Not that it wouldn’t be entertaining as hell. :looney:
I don’t know if all of this is fake like rappers who war with each other and are later spotted hanging out in a restaurant. Seems real enough I guess. No idea if this extends to video games. I do scratch my head though why they made Marvel Nemesis Rise of the Imperfects and MK vs. DCU (which isn’t a bad game) over a Marvel / DC game though… Unless it’s just complicated rights issues which is a possibility I guess.
Batman Arkham Asylum the video game tomorrow and Batman And Robin #3 comes out Wednesday. Awesome week for Bat Fans! :nunchuck:
Wow, I honestly can’t tell if you’re trying to be funny or if you’re just, like, fourteen years old or something.
Joe Quesada takes a lot of heat for what happened to Spider-Man, but he’s been great for Marvel. He helped bring the company into a creative renaissance with Marvel Knights and MAX. He hired Axel Alonso. I also don’t think he’s that ugly.
Sano, I think DC did do a sort of follow-up to JLA/Avengers. Busiek and Garney did a run on JLA that addressed the cosmic egg thing. I don’t think they really referenced the Avengers.
Oh, so that’s what became of that whole thing. I read about it in CSN where they marked it as an ‘event’ and every time I asked about it in stores no one knew anything about it. I thought it was called off but I guess not. Thanks!
The Busiek/Garney JLA is collected in a TRADE, BABY titled Syndicate Rules, which was the old JLA volume 17. (I checked just for you.) I can’t believe I knew some continuity minutiae that you didn’t know. I think you should let me use your Banhammer for a week as a reward for my knowledge.
LOL! Well thanks for checking all the same.
Batman Arkham Asylum video game today!
Excellent Review of BNR #3. The issue was “Sexy disco hot!”
I was expressing my opinion in truth but i gotta say part of me wanted to bust Quesada a few, i truly think hes an imbecile but i do acknowledge what he’s done and i really enjoyd some of the MK lines but all in all he sucks and i miss stan “the man” Excelsior!!
