Fellas, I do see alot of valid points in these posts here. Yeah Sundays could work, but alot of people do use that day as a day for family time. I personally dont see why Fridays would be that big of a deal and here’s why:
The man is asking for two days out of a month for people to get together and hang out, play games, and have a chance at some cash.
The league play starts at 7pm. Normally the flyers for fight and drink night says they start around 8. I dont see league play running that long with multiple set ups and alot of the times I go Auburn most people dont show up at Raph’s til around 10pm anyway. This would then leave the option afterwards to either chill at GTS and play more of follow the the guys back to Auburn and STILL PLAY MORE.
I personally see this as an opportunity for compromise instead of conflict. I dont see why it has to be my shit better than your shit. Everyone is trying to play so lets just play.
Wednesday night fights and 8 on the break are 2 very successful tournaments that run in cali and nj on weekdays and are known throughout the country. Battle and Brew has success too in atlanta, running on a thursday. In huntsville their fight night casuals take place at a store on thursdays and seems somewhat successful (but huntsville had no scene at all a year or two ago).
people will make time to come in for a tournament, if anything it would be a better idea to put it on a day where you have less normal business.
Mayor brought up a point to me, on a friday is when moms are going to bring kids to buy games (while he’s not an expert, he did work at a gamestop for quite some time so I believe he would know a little bit about this). you should know the fighting game community well enough that we are loud and rowdy to the point where moms are going to see some guy getting hype about a match and yelling obscenities and take it the wrong way, and therefore take their business elsewhere.
If you still want to do a friday date, well… that’s okay
I can’t show up if that’s the case though, and I do definitely want to support you guys.
You know it’s not like that, I just really don’t want the community to be split even further. the Auburn event did a huge amount to build the scene here, but now the stuff i hear come out of people’s mouth here is “i wish that wasn’t on a friday, but i have to go get that money”.
about #2 it varies on the crowd, columbus, ga crew have been showing up at a solid 6-7pm for about 2 months now every week. the locals show up as early as 5. and we have 4 players that just live in this apartment anyway.
this isn’t about “my shit vs. your shit”, this is me saying that this is a mistake for all of us to have this stuff on the same day.

While I’m sure no one would deny how much the Auburn folks have helped out the scene in the past couple of years by graciously letting people into their apartment and giving them a place to play, it seems that what GTSouth is offering is a step up for the scene as a whole. This area is moving up from a bunch of people going to someone’s apartment to play casuals, to a business providing a well-organized league of play for everyone to enter. I don’t see why everyone wouldn’t be excited about this? And no one’s losing anything. It’s only two Fridays every month.

I’m willing to drive wherever. Just not on weekdays, typically. Anything that can get people in Montgomery out of their house is probably a good thing in the end.
