The Bama Thread - Monster Creation at it's Finest!

@darkside

Cmon man just cause nobody wants in on BB doesnt mean you should just drop everything

GGs to everyone. Next time, I am NOT entering 3 tourneys at the same time, it was really hard and I couldn’t even concentrate well so my efforts in marvel were really different. More like 80% than 100%, I didn’t even get salty. @Squid, if you want help getting better in 3S you can always play me online man, that goes for anyone trying to get better.

Jagga playing Batman Arkham City is not a reason you don’t need to come lol j/k.

@Wes, dude don’t give up all fighters man. We still got KOF13 coming out, then SC5. I think it’s too soon to throw it all down. Give FG’s another chance.

Shinobi is hype for that Powerstone 3.

Sooooo Sorry I left early, once I get a car, shit won’t happen I swear.

Don’t worry Wes, we still have PSO2. Mags were confirmed a few days ago!

(you’ll come back though, you promised to play melty mother fucker)

More ppl need to play AE… jus sayin

This is the fighting game community in a nutshell. Capcom is losing their fanbase, but hurting tournaments in general. It’s to the point where I don’t even ride with my cousins to tournaments anymore. It’s not the organizers fault, but surely is the players. It only takes 1 or 2 times for someone to throw a tournament, then list a bunch of games in the line up, yet mvc3/sf4 is only played and some other capcom game, which will eventually make non capcom dickers stop playing all together.

Fighting games are mainstream now. And people are sheep. My cousins say mvc3 bad, but still play it, then they say umvc3 will be better, yet it’s the same damn game with more shit sprinkled on top. They say sf4 is boring, but still enter tournaments for it. It’s fucking retarded. When they tell me x,y,z will be at such and such game will be there, I already know all the money will be in sf4/mvc3, everything else will be a roundrobin/cancelled. It’s not worth it.

Trust me, you are not the only one that feels this way. I honestly don’t see how people bamas scene is going to last when people are falling off, because of this fanboyism/sheepism,

Dont man I agree capcom shovels shit onto dvd and sells it now, keep the dream alive! Other than on Fridays I play blaz with one person and everyone in our apartment is trying out guilty gear now so i can look forward to playing them. Last friday we had a TV with just blazblue and guilty gear and I played on it all night and we had people from Columbus come out and play blaz and gg too

Some people just want to compete. I know everyone isn’t like this, but some people just want to play what everyone else is playing because that’s the only competitive games you have in your scene. I don’t love or hate SF4, but there’s other stuff I want to play. There are several games I want to try and learn, but hell, no one around me plays them. Honestly, we all know Capcom games will always dominate the FG scene. It’s been like that for a while. And in terms of the scene lasting, honestly, the scene has been growing. If anything, the problem with newer people is the drive to get better. Most people don’t want to put in the work. Maybe it’s an attitude some have, maybe it’s just the games that they are playing aren’t driving them get better, but I think that’s a bigger problem with the scene in general over the games that people play.

At the end of the day, don’t let people’s attitudes dictate whether you want to continue playing a game.

Meh.

Either do what you can to boost your game or move on with your life. It’s more productive than whining about it, and the anger always comes off as misdirected.

Shout-outs to everyone at Bham yesterday.

do what you want, but people shitting on your game will always happen.

that shit dead.

nah that shit is in dec 10 we can make that. the good thing about being poor is that i never had much for people to steal from me in the first place

One of the things about better games getting played like ST and shit is that 1) there’s a lot of intimidation factor in the sense that people have literally been playing that for over 15 years and will be in the tournaments and 2) a lot of those tournaments end up being high roller tournaments anyway, and no one wants to pay $50 if they don’t think they even have a chance. ST as well isn’t actually tournament worthy unless you’ve got a cab, which isn’t exactly common among most groups, and then since like Freesway said people like to play the competitive shit it’s hard to make time to practice too many games, especially if there’s not much play of some of the games. Then some games, like 3s, there’s a lot of controversy (lol tiers). The only way to bring back an older/better/different game would be a concentrated effort from a community. I know huntsville got arcana heart played up here often just because everyone made the effort to play it, and that’s basically how it’s gotta work, and even then you’re gonna probably only have minor success.

I’d personally like to play lots of ST but there’s not really time to play sf4 (which I don’t really hate, kinda like it but I recognize it’s more boring and slow and I also don’t have the patience for it all the time) and mvc3 (which is pretty fun and fast even if it’s got its bullshit, and even if only some of that bullshit is gonna be gone in umvc3) and st and vampire savior and any other game I think is pretty cool. When Soul Calibur V comes out I’ll try and play that shit, and then skullgirls comes out I’ll probably drop sf4 for that, and ttt2 maybe, but there’s just too many fucking games to play all of them, so I want to play what people are playing so I can at least play someone. ggpo doesn’t count.

Okay, so here’s my viewpoint on it.
It’s a visous cycle. If someone saying that they don’t really want to play a certain game anymore, it becomes contagious.
If your friends quit playing a game, your going to want to quit playing it too.
And i can’t really say that i’ve been much help either since i’ve dropped CS2.
Now it does seem that BBCS2 is at the end of its lifespan, BUT, if you still like the game don’t let it die out.
When BBCSE comes out just rep that shit so hard. Even if it annoys people get everyone you can into it.
If you feel like its not worth it than its only feeding the death of a certain game.
So ride that shit until BB3 or Persona or GGX3 or whatev’s bro.
In the end its really up to you. if you enjoy it, keep playing it and try to get others into it as well.

It really does suck that there’s not much of a scene for BlazBlue in most of the southeast anymore; I know your pain since it’s my main game too. I also agree about Capcom bagging up shit and calling it a game, although I do genuinely enjoy AE somehow. The gem system in SFxT is fucking dumb, but people are going to make excuses (Well, you can only auto-block if you have meter. That’s not so bad, right?) and play the shit out of it anyway. Which is arguably no dumber than things like Phoenix not being banned off the bat in MvC 3.

But there’s no reason to give up now when Extend is so close around the corner. From the looks of it a lot more people will be at least attempting to get back into it when that drops. There’s always at least chance. And between Skullgirls, Dat Neau Melty, Persona, Under Night In Birth, and AquaPazza in the U.S. (if there is a God) there should be something you enjoy that other people play and support. Don’t lose hope just yet.

ggs to everyone at BHam

I leveled up a bunch since RCR but obviously it wasn’t enough. Looking forward to playing Ultimate sets against you guys Dec 10 if you can make it.

This is why I don’t really go to any of these major tournaments or such because who here can say that they LIKE sitting hours on end seeing the same shit we’ve seen over the course of 3 - 4 years and game that’s so broke and awful that it’s laughable? To be honest, I wouldn’t mind seeing more GG or BB action in the tournament scene…I mean, I don’t play the games seriously because I royally suck at them but at least their enjoyable to watch. That’s why I detest the mainstream gaming scene…it’s nothing but a bunch of dick riding fools who can’t see the bigger picture that they’re being swindled out of their money into buying either a broke piece of shit called a game or a intentionally made incomplete game that the company suckers you into buying DLC content for it. This is the future people and I don’t like it.

Only time I play AE & MvC3 is at GTSouth and other than that, that crap doesn’t even gets put into my consoles no more unless I’m extremely bored and such…probably why I suck at league night but who cares. Dark, I agree with everyone else that rather than complaining and throwing a fit about the turnout, do what you can to shove that game down people’s throats and get them interested. It’s pretty much what I do when I go to AWA or GTSouth when I carry my PC or my laptop with me and only have Arcana Heart 3, Eternal Fighter Zero - Memorial-, Melty Blood, Big Bang Beat Revolve, Gleam of Force, or some other “great” doujin or non-mainstream game playing. I try to get people interested and try it out over the BS Capcom pukes on us. Again though, because it has that shiny Capcom logo on it, people are going to dick ride it and play it anyway. No matter how much you claim to polish it or claim how clean that shit is, it will always remain shit and that’s Capcom’s and/or Namco’s philosophy in my eyes.

Even though I buy that crap, I don’t take it seriously because it’s no point. Anyway…until Skullgirls, MBAACC, KOFXIII, Aquapazza, Persona, Gundam Extreme VS. & SCV comes out, don’t expect to see me in any AE or MVC3 tournaments rarely anymore. Keep fighting a hard fight Dark…keep fighting.

Well I doubt there will be tourneys up until UMVC3 come out. Until then, might as well send MvC3 back to gamefly, cancel subscription, play gears 3, 3S, and Elder scrolls until the big guns come out right?

fixed

T****he importance of a man’s butt and how it’s importance supersedes even that of water and food.

I think the broad statements of people playing AE and MvC3 solely because they’re Capcom sheep are a little over exaggerated. While we all know there’s plenty of people like that (read: casuals), plenty of people in the FGC play these for the mass competition. For a long time, I absolutely hated AE and refused to play it. I thought it was a below average game, and I still do. However, I eventually made myself start practicing it because I couldn’t get people to competitively play ST with me. Everyone wanted to play AE, and that’s where all the competition was at tournaments.

So don’t automatically assume that someone entering AE and MvC3 is an ignorant fool that loves anything with a Capcom logo on the box. Some people might just be in it for the fun of the tournaments and the drive of the competition. And if this is the case, which I think it is, then perhaps we shouldn’t give up on the lesser played games. Getting a competition minded player to pick up a lesser played game will be easier with every person to enter a tournament for it. Each person that picks it up makes another want to. It’s a snowball effect.

So don’t give up guys. Rather, let’s make an even bigger push. I know on my front, I’m trying to grow the tournament scene in Dothan so that I’ll have more people in that hungry competitive mindset. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of more people around here picking up lesser known games to get more of that tournament action. Hopefully.

Thanks for the encouraging posts many of you have made here and on FB. For now, I’ll do as Raph suggests and “keep the dream alive!” BB is too good of a game for people to not play, and even if I have to be the only person repping it, I’m going to. If anyone wants to learn or play BB, see my sig. Hell, I might even get back on Guilty if I can find time to practice (will definitely be doing this once I build that new comp anyway). Can’t wait for February, bring on CSE!

  1. Do I know you? and

  2. I can only “boost” the BB scene so far. I have offered to teach people the game (hell, just look at my sig). I have tried to explain to people why it’s fun and why they should be playing it, since all the features people seem to complain about in Capcom fighters aren’t a problem in BB. Great netcode? Check. Legit in-game tutorial that teaches you how to play? Check. Great graphics/music? Check. Spectator mode? Up to 4 people can watch a 1v1 (6 players in a room total). Ranking system that isn’t “who has the most free time to play” bullshit (PSR)? Check. Challenge mode that teaches you practical combos instead of useless “Let’s see if you can do four 1f links in a totally impractical combo?” Check. Better DLC value (balance patch is completely free, characters are slightly more expensive but they cost more to make being sprites and include their own useful challenge mode, besides that the DLC characters in BB aren’t on disc and are actually developed after release, unlike Jill and Shuma)? Check. No bullshit comeback factors like Ultras or X-factor? Check. Most balanced current-gen fighter (worst match-up is 6.5-3.5, and when considering system mechanics is very winnable, other match-ups are 6-4 at worst)? Check. Completely unique character playstyles? Check. For those that care about it, tons of single player content like a huge story mode (with a story that’s actually good!), Legion mode, and Score Attack? Check. I guess the next step is actually buying the game for them, and if I could buy a copy for every player in Bama, I would. The game is solid as a competitive fighter, doesn’t hold your hand, is fun, and has none of the problems everyone seems to complain about in other games. Blaz deserves to be played, yet it goes ignored because people think stupid shit like “hey let’s dream match Wolverine vs. Akuma!” is more important than a fighting game actually being good.

  3. Not whining at all, just irritated that what’s currently popular isn’t what’s good. I’m so tired of this word getting thrown around as much as it does on the internet–is voicing a negative opinion at all “whining?” Well fuck it, let’s all join hands and circle jerk about how awesome every fighting game ever made is.

  4. I don’t think my anger is misdirected at all. I’m mad as hell at Capcom for shitting on the franchises I grew up on, and if they’re going to continue to do that as they have, they will get none of my business. If they ever get around to making good fighters again, I’ll play them, but I’m not holding my breath.

I was actually thinking of getting back into SF 4 lately, it’s not all bad. Maybe it’s not the single greatest game ever, but there’s a lot of fun characters (Juri all day) and I can see how people enjoy it.

I think a lot of people don’t have hate towards BlazBlue so much as towards CS 2 specifically. If Arcana can get a decent turnout then I doubt it’s just that people hate anything that’s not Capcom.
