The Asuka Kazama Thread

Abuse Attack Reversal. Her AAs are actually pretty good if you know how to use them. Coming from SF4 as a Makoto player, jab AA is a must learn timing for mixing up your opponent as Makoto. Asuka’s jab AA is actually really good. However, doing f.LK earlier is often better.

Also, on the topic of AAs… her j.MP is a great air challenge move. If you see them jump, jump at them with j.MP. Land, follow up with c.LK > Oni.

Don’t fill the thread with crap saying she has no AAs. This has been discussed if you were reading any of the previous posts. Add something constructive or really just don’t say much at all. Tier lists are pointless and people really shouldn’t be looking at them this early in the game. Mid-tier? Hell if I care.

I don’t think Asuka’s mid tier. It’s really tough to say at this point but she doesn’t feel like a mid tier character. She’s challenging to use for sure, and it takes WAY more work to win with her than with Ryu, Rolento, Kazuya, or Hugo, but I feel like if I understand my opponent then Asuka is a rape machine. She can take advantage of SO many situations, more than any character I’ve played so far. She has an answer to pretty much everything. The only thing that makes her seem bad is that none of her answers are easy or obvious, they all take a fair combination of reaction time and reading your opponent.

The only character that’s been a real issue for me so far is Guile.

I don’t recall seeing anything about this in her combo thread, anyways. I currently use Asuka as my second character, just wondering is there anything that can possibly combo off of her f.HK?

cr:hk: does so, or you can tag for an easy combo of your choice.

That sounds like the definition of a low/mid-tier character to me.

Me, I’ll be surprised if she’s ever considered higher than low-mid. But I haven’t played a lot of the cast, so it’s difficult to compare. She’s definitely not in the same class as Kaz, Jin, Ryu, Rolento, Juri, etc, the characters with good solid strengths and a little abusable BS. Eliminate those and she’s already in the mids at best.

well i think at first she is going to be place low just because of lack of exposure/knowledge/tech/blahblah
but after awhile she’ll start to be more effective, she a character where you basically have to know every other character so you know what you can and can’t punish, and that type of understanding doesn’t come over night (hense the low tier prediction at first)

but i do kind of think that you have to outplay just about every opponents to have the edge or even to have it even; which means the asuka player will be winning more times then asuka the character if that makes sense

A low tier character is someone who can’t take advantage of those thing though. A lack of options is what defines the low tier and Asuka’s got plenty.

Asuka certainly has to work harder than most of the cast to get a win.

Thank you, I don’t have to make a giant post now. So yeah, I’ve been enjoying Asuka quite a lot. She’s a fantastic anchor and I don’t see myself changing characters any time soon. I don’t need Makoto when I have Asuka.

Word.

tier talk is so boring

:b:+:mp:~:mk: is +3 on block? Really? I never would’ve guessed… I should jump test every single move from now on if that’s the case. I didn’t even think to test that string because it seems so unsafe. Good to know, at least!

Its also stupid this early in the game’s life.

Yeah, it’s so slow to start the whiplash punch I’m really wary of using it in a fight too.

Asuka is the Dr. Doom of this game.

On her own, not super threatening. But as a support character, she makes nearly every team better.

God yes. I love player her though, she’s a blast and it visibly angers my opponents when I kick them off the screen, shit is so funny. It’ll take some work but whatever, as long as I’m having fun playing her I don’t care.

I have Ryu as my crutch anyway, I have to do almost nothing to score damage with him… it’s just autopilot, lol. His links are braindead easy and game play I don’t even have to think about it since most his stuff is safe (HK donkey kick that hard to punish? OK why not).

It’s like I was saying the other day going through his trials. “Ryu… Ryu never changes…”

is anyone have trouble trying to get close or even touch ogre with Asuka? Ive come across him for first time and my god i cant find a way to touch or even hit him.

What exactly do you mean by “bullying your way in and around the screen”? I mean, I agree with you that she has to be played awkwardly especially since her footsies are garbage. I play her janky as hell: with way too many jump fierce punches and retarded block strings with random gaps just to have my opponent thinking “what the hell is she doing?” It’s not entirely random though. I mean, I’m obviously fishing for my opponents responses. But, Asuka is just so…awkward. Still love her tho XD

Havent fought an Ogre yet, what exactly makes him so hard to approach?

For me trying to punish him for mistakes or end of a block string, but also his orb thing just kills too much one slight drop of a combo and orb goes off.
