The Asuka Kazama Thread

More like j.HP for life.

I’ve actually been swapping in and out alot of gems trying to figure out if this ish makes a difference and I think what I have now is actually pretty helpful to Asuka’s style of play. I am running 2 meter build/1 Power ( Onslaught Lv. 2, Onslaught Lv. 1, Immense Power Lv. 2) and what this allows me to do is activate 2/3 gems on block or 3/3 gems on a good hit confirm.

The 2 Onsalught gems’ activation requirements are “Have 4 Attacks Blocked” and the Power gem is simply “Connect with 1 Launcher”. Since Asukas’ BnB string adds up to something like 7 hits ( st. :lp: , [st. :mp: :lp:] [:mp: :lk:] st. :mk: > cr. :mp: ] AND can be ended with an Oni cancel to make the entire string safe you can always have your meter so long as you can land a few strings. Even on block with the gems on meter builds pretty quickly and if you hit confirm this just end the string with a Launcher and viola!, All 3 gems active, go crazy!

I’m running Akuma/Asuka by the way. If anyone wants to give this a try and let me know how it worked for them that’d be cool

Im trying to make my asuka solid as my Cammy is good on basic levels but want to improve my asuka as i know she can hit hard after a tag in.

But i want to know how can i bypass zoning tactics many fireballers may use. Cause i noticed once i finish a combo/BNB, people may roll or i may do back dash to protect them selves and this is bad as my asuka is then completely zoned out and getting past wall of Fireballs/Projectiles and getting close is a big big struggle.
So does anyone have something that may help with my problem?

cr.MK will go under most fireballs, except Guile’s and Chun Li’s, as far as I have seen, but charge characters are easier to deal with, aside from that it can be down to, at least for me switching to yoshimitsu and dealing with them at ranges that yoshi can deal with

I’m starting to get nasty with regular sweep throws in the neutral game… This move is actually really good!

You can go through fireballs with regular exorcisers, you just have to perform it with the fireball very close to you. It only seems to have upper body fireball invince though, as she can’t go through low tiger shots with it. EX will do that though.

Does anyone think Asuka has any potential?

Pffft! Yeah, read the previous nine pages of posts

Ah yeah :stuck_out_tongue:

I just like to play footsies, I guess I must accept that Asuka isn’t one for footsies lol. I will use her counter more

she’s very gimmicky which is good in this game, the counter is very good and so is j.MK especially on neutral jump,

Is anyone else finding it better to kind of play Asuka a little stupid? And by that I mean just kind of bullying your way in and around the screen as opposed to trying to play footsies or anything fancy like that…

Thank you!

It makes sense, really. She’s got the defensive options she needs to push into somebody else’s defense game.

I also imagine she can get really frustrating with a couple of good reads, which certainly helps too.

lol That’s how she was played in Tekken as well, like a disrespecting school bully. Unfortunately, after last night’s ranbats and seeing a Zangief / Guile team literally troll their way into winners finals, by just abusing how good walking back and time outing in this game, I might have to take a step back from it. :c At least for a bit. Still paying attention to the Asuka forums tho.

Light counter can stop a Rolento from spamming standing LP, if it becomes predictable enough during the gaps. Cr. HP counter pokes Hugo and leads to a free punish if you’re fast enough.

I don’t really like how Asuka is meant to be played, I prefer if they took away her counter in exchange for good normals to play footsies with.

I’d rather outpoking an opponent into good damage with a nice set of normals than scoring (150-180?) off a counter which is kinda gimmicky.

You should play Rolento like everyone else then lol

She’s a good character in that she doesn’t have to take shit from much of anyone it seems. Her footsies are “bad” in that she has very little to actually poke with, but she’s actually competent in the neutral game once you establish that you won’t tolerate jumps (read: willingness to burn meter) and if they are playing proper footsies, it often means they are walking back and forth and wiggling a lot. Hello sweep throw. I really love this special! I think it’s going to be important to her game to make her over heads scary, something I’m working on myself still. If you don’t do that, she won’t really be able to break turtles as mentioned earlier. Link out of twd.strong, Burn the bar and tag from twd.roundhouse to make the damage something they need to respect. Banana Ken was doing this with Ryu’s overhead last night every chance he got. Seemed very effective.

Played Law and Asuka at a small tourney yesterday with a pretty good turnout. There was another Asuka player as well. We both did pretty good. I went 2-2 and I’m not really all that good yet, I lost how I suspected I would: match-up knowledge, but I thought I was playing pretty well otherwise. So Asuka really can’t be a terrible character. The other guy made it to top 8 I believe. She certainly man-handles some match-ups, my favorite example being Balrog.

I understand that she has the tools to compete at neutral.

But the tools she has is unsafe, leg sweep throw, counter whiff, overhead on block, being reliant on meter for a reliable AA is a bit iffy too.

I would rather a good set of normals to compete with the cast and outpoke for big reliable damage, instead of going on unsafe tools that works out 150-180ish damage and more on overheads.

I know this is Asuka’s playstyle, but I just don’t feel that it’s solid, a bit gimmicky.

Now, I’m not trying to come across as a moanbag :p, I will still play Asuka and learn how to use her tools in certain situations, I love the character and will be willing to learn her, but I just feel she’s lacking.

That’s a point actually what match ups are people having trouble with, would be interesting to compare strategies,

I’ll start by saying that Akuma gives me trouble I can’t always get in on him like other characters and when i do he teleports away

lol did anyone pay attention to my comment? She has a kara-throw goddamnit, it’s LP~LP+LK. This game tried to stop kara-throwing, and many other characters’ kara-throws are nonexistent.

Besides that, her back MP ~ MK is +3 on block and hit, meaning it’s safe (st.lp is 3 frames) and can be hit confirmed. Could be a good move on startup to start her pressure game since she relies so much on being close.

I wouldn’t really use b+mp > st.mk to get in the opponent’s face much because it has horrific startup.

That’s interesting about Asuka’s kara-throw, thanks for that
