Yeah, the thing most people never give thought to is that “getting in quick” (re: rushdown) is just about the easiest, simplest strategy for ANY character. It doesn’t mean every character can get in easily. Haggar, for example, has a tough time getting in on almost anyone. But it is the most straight-forward, basic strategy for pretty much any character. It’s also a misnomer to assume that the only option beyond rushing down is keepaway or zoning. That’s not the case at all. Thor (or whoever) can do very well offensively, but that doesn’t mean he has to be balls-to-the-wall rushing down to do it.
Consider, for example, how many ways Thor can launch a hit-confirm-able offense WITHOUT being nose-to-nose with the opponent: Mighty Strike, Strike after push block, Strike after back dash, tiger-knee’d Strike, Mighty Smash, Mighty Smash whiff canceled into Mighty Punish, cr.H, launcher, kara-grabs, triangle-jump, triangle-jump-slide, canceled Mighty Spark, and so on. I think that’s the point I’m trying to make: dispelling the myth that to be on “offense” means that (A) you’ve got to be so close to your opponent that you can smell their breath and (B) you’ve got to be constantly throwing out pokes like you were Magneto or Zero.
I’ve been experimenting also on the virtues of his triangle jumps, a good way to get in during those ambiguous mid distances is to super jump and forward dash and special. The move has huge priority and won’t cancel before he drops like his elbow, it also comes out extremely fast and crosses up. From there depending on your assist can go into your tick grab setups.
I got chipped up pretty bad by Marlin Pie but I was a little nervous because his Viper’s tough (and I was on stream). I’m gonna try to make it out to the Break Weeklies, feeling like a good breeding ground. I’m sometimes at the South Jersey Bodyshop, though if the weather’s nice I can’t guarantee I’ll be there. Oh and I’m not that tall, I’m just now hearing Quotes lol. YouTube - The Break Weekly #103 - FR - Matrix12986 VS JuliusYouTube - The Break Weekly #103 - W1 - [AG] MarlinPie VS Julius
You were looking hella fresh the first round. Made a few mistakes and got caught but still, really nice. Viper is def a character that everone needs more experience against cause she will just mess your shit up with seismo cancels all day long. Still good stuff!
Nah, I know I played poorly, but the positive in knowing it is that is my problems will probably be solved by continuing to play against the guys at the Break and make it out to sessions. Plus I’m hype at the thought of being that area’s “Thor”. Against Viper’s focus I just have to remember to cancel the normal IMMEDIATELY into command throw. I need to find out if seimos count at projectiles. If they do then all she can do is make sure to hit me at the startup of mighty strike. Otherwise I should go through. Other then that, just block better…
I didn’t think of Thor as a good character until I saw Justin use him…I still don’t use Thor(it’s good to know that he can kick some ass, he better…He’s a God).
Yeah Im no pro but I could see numerous missed opportunities for good combos or punishes from Justin’s Thor. Justin is just dominant with Thor’s Tri-dash and realized, before anyone else, every indestructible assist in this game. And screwed people up with it. His Thor didn’t look as good when he didn’t have that Hsien-Ko assist.
But who knows what his Thor will look like after he’s had some lab time.
justin owning with thor is more about him being good with the game in general and the basics rather than him being good with thor. Dont know why but for some reason JW never goes for MT after an air combo, he always does a hard knockdown and follows it up with a mighty smash otg + hsien ko assist xx MT, which is cool and all but im pretty sure that he still does the same thing even when hsien ko is dead, and i personally prefer to do MT after an air combo when im in the corner to get a reset out of it. Not to mention that the only reset ive seen him use is corner H mighty smash which is probably the easiest reset to avoid.
That being said ive already noticed his thor getting better over time but is he even going to stick with thor? doesnt seem very likely imo.
i have a combo video for Thor while i was just messing around him (he isn’t my main) and the weird thing is i did air Mighty Tornado and the character went stun in mid air :wtf:
It’s been documented a few times.
Basically if you do not hit with the last hit they go into a untechable fall, the issue it positioning your move right per char.
Technically it could produce full life loops but no one is to that point yet.
Well its not worht the meter to do full life for one. And secondly without an assist getting the second up charge is super hard. Finally it doesn’t work on everyone.
Forgot to say also can’t really set it up realiably by himself, at least from my experience, I’ll test your combo to see if it can work in more situations, also how much hit stun scaling it makes.
I think that’s a great vid. just what I needed.
how reliable are those air dash to resets. in matches how much time do your opps have Atk or air dash awAy or whatever.
do any of you guys have access to mvc3 frame data.
which reset exactly? if you mean the L strike reset then yes its very reliable, i land it all the time. As long as you delay the dash you wont get hit by ppl mashing but there’s not much you can do against air dashes. I suppose if you’re quick enough you could activate fly and try to catch them.
If you’re talking about the M strike reset then im not too sure but i dont see why it wouldnt be reliable. Never rly bothered actually getting the timing down consistently since i only play online and there’s no way in hell i would be able to do it online >.<
