That was a pretty good use of the log trap assist. I kinda wrote it off as being too difficult to convert from, but it’s nice to see me being proved wrong.
Yeah I thought it was neat too. Stay airborne and wait for log trap hit confirm. Tack on an otg assist or a derpy xf3 character and you’re good
Oh good, he posted the set. I was hoping he would since he asked in his last Online Warrior if anyone wanted to see the matches between the 2 of them and I replied that I would like to watch them.
Log trap + Thor is decent but loses still to strong runaway. Also low mixup potential it’s basically a totally defensive Thor team. I don’t like it much because its slow to play, plus people with experience moving around log trap can figure it out.
I don’t even think you should be using log trap to ‘hit’ in such a team, rather just force blocking to move in. Yes, I saw some confirms of it, but they were few and far between. Thor had to be in a specific space to capitalise of it… the opponent should be thinking to put themselves in a position where even if they get hit by log trap… its almost in their favour by getting some space.
This mindset can be applied to other matchups as well. Don’t be afraid of getting hit by tiny things, because you often end up diverting unnecessary resources to avoiding it and so end up eating the real big damage that you should be concentrating on. In a really obvious example, yes vajra is a massive pain. BUT that is only the case if the point is able to OTG easily off it (ie doom). I played against Trish/Vergil/Strider the other day, and honestly, when the match started I didn’t give a damn about Vajra (ure it because slightly more of a problem with Vergil… but no problem against trash) Similarly, think about taking to super jump height, and getting hit by minor projectiles, then after the recovery you regain air options and can call assists.
Well guys here is my footage from this is it (bigger tourney in Tuscon & got to meet combofiend and play him) I only had 2 matches on stream (3 if I didn’t choke so hard against Tsumuji (which would have been cool b/c I would have played combofiend)) but I did pretty well I looked back on those and saw some stuff I fuk’ed up on; of course I still need to be more consistent in my combos. enjoy!
UMvC3 This is It: 6:08, 51:25
P.S. Thx for watching Animat8d_Fan, Made me feel good that a fellow Thor was watching
Good job man, that’s a vast improvement over last time. You got your combos down, your hit confirms are way more solid and you’re going for resets off stray Mighty Strikes.
Thx man I appriciate it! I decided to go back to my team that I’ve done the best with (which I got 13th @ this is it w/ skrull); this team is definitely better for me than sentinel (my sentinels ass lol). If there is anything u guys see that need some Improvement…I’m all ears, just trying to get better (Of course I felt like I was rushing in a shit load which could be bad; So I’ll try to lay off the reckless rush down)
I’m glad I randomly clicked on this thread, those combos and hitconfirms were sick!
Did any of you watch my matches? I would appreciate some feedback too :D.
Stealing that Thor/Skrull incoming mix-up
No problem man! I’m glad that I was able to see you play on stream. I was watching Youmacon Battle Opera that weekend but was keeping an eye on the This Is It stream at the same time hoping to see you play so I only got to see your second match. Your Thor has gotten really good and Super Skrull is a good fit for you. and now all you need to do is make Super Skrull and Iron Man as deadly as your Thor when they are on screen.
@Duck Strong: I did watch your matches after they were posted here and I’m sorry for not giving feedback right away. So I will start by saying I saw a lot of great stuff in those matches, very impressive. Though the amount of Mighty Punishes that whiffed was a little disconcerting :\ because you either did them full screen or didn’t DHC to safety but otherwise great stuff.
Hey guys. I just pick up Thor about 4 days ago. I learned him a little bit before in vanilla but not much at all. I played him most of my matches at my local tournament and I won the tournament, but I didn’t use him in Loser’s or Grand Finals. I was wondering if you guys can give me a critique with my Thor/Cap/Taskmaster team. Like how can I maximize on opportunities, what I need to work on, etc. I played on stream for most of my matches and off stream for a match.

I play at 30:00, 50:50, 1:16:21 and 1:43:10 with my Thor team.
Thanks in advance
Good stuff. You played pretty good for just picking him up. Some quick pointers.
Always snap in Strider. Vajra assist is pretty much anit-Thor assist so it should be your main goal to eliminate it as fast as you can.
When you’re in the corner and you happen to open someone up with cr:l:,cr:h:, :l: Spark, you can do :l: :s: to get your launch.
When you get a hit with an air Strike, you can jump combo with j:l:,j:m:,j:s:, land, :l:, launch for a combo. Or Strike, land, :l:, , :s:, or just Strike, :s:. It all depends on what you like confirming with, and what typa spacing you’re working with off that Strike hit.
When you do a block string, don’t do :l: Spark to end it after a cr:h:. The cr:h: actually pushes the opponent out of the Spark’s range allowing you to get punished for that. But if you cancel cr:m: into :l: Spark, you’ll get them to block it, while being at +5 frame advantage. So you can go for a mix up with a low or :l: command grab.
Zero and Vergil are hard fights. I find that it’s best to spend most of the game zoning him instead of trying to go in against him. Zero’s faster and can convert from any type of lightning that hits. Sparks and assists and playing patiently and defensively, and then get some space for a charged Strike. I personally like to run missiles in that match up. Then once you touch him, kill him with a DHC. And Vergil should be more about armoring through his stuff, so you gotta have a strong sense of spacing when facing him. Know your standard anti-Vergil tech, too. Pushblock to avoid the mix up of rapid slash, and Mighty Punish whenever he’s close so you can go through any swords that he may have up on him.
Good stuff man, you played really well. Especially for someone who just picked up the character 4 days ago.
Just a couple of things:
Really work on your air combo so that you hit the jump S as late as possible to hit that fully charged smash. I’m sure you know this, but it’s pretty important off awkward hit confirms since it’s probably the most practical way for Thor to get a relaunch and decent damage.
How attached are you to that team order? I think Thor/Task/Cap might make a better team order since it’s nice to have a safe super to DHC into off Mighty Punish if it misses and Task DHC’s much better off an air Tornado. You’ll also get access to the DHC glitch and a full combo off Mighty Punish if you cancel into Aegis before the second hit. Your team isn’t really geared toward maximizing Thor’s damage, but it does have a lot of utility and nice synergy.
All in all that was pretty tight. I can’t blame you for switching out your team for the finals though. Thor loses quite badly to Zero and Vergil.
Edit: Just played around with your team a little more and you can actually get the DHC glitch to work with Cap as well. You just need to DHC and whiff Hyper Charging Star when the opponent is still in the air. From midscreen you can just OTG Shield slash and get the relaunch. In the corner, you have to call either assist (preferably Task since Sparks do so much damage at the end of a combo) and relaunch.
For the Task DHC glitch, it’s a little difficult to eyeball the hit if you DHC early, so you can just let it animate fully, DHC to Aegis, then Spidey swing + charging star assist xx down arrows. This still works from midscreen but you need to do a dashing Shield skills with Task to continue the combo since charging star pushes them so far away. If you do pretty much any old combo after that and use a Mighty Spark extension into sharp sting, you can get around 1 million damage for a net loss of just 1 bar.
I would suggest you switch to Mighty Spark as your assist since smash rarely adds much and you’d be doing a lot more damage with Spark extensions anyway.
I’m really racking my brain trying to find a way to get decent damage with Thor though.
I also saw that you were missing the charged H. Smash after the air series because it looked like you didn’t hit the S late enough in the air combo. In addition, I agree about switching to Thor/Task/Cap because I run Thor/Task/Doom and the DHC options for Thor/Task are pretty good. Otherwise, nicely done on how you played.
Appreciate the input guys. You guys will see me switch around from Thor/Cap/Taskmaster, Haggar/Viper/Doom and Wesker/Doom/Strider. When I got some Thor footage for yall to look at, I will definitely post here.
Recorded some matches against a random person on PSN yesterday. I didn’t do anything special because this was more of a zoning game between the 2 of us.

Super late to the game here but I just thought I’d bring up some videos I remember seeing a while back of a Japanese Thor, Ryu, Raccoon team. It didn’t have a ton of synergy but it was fun to watch and the player had a creative use for the log trap after a Thor super jump, which you can see around 6:40.
Other than that, I found an incredibly entertaining Thor, She-Hulk, Doom team with literally hours of match footage. The player, goes by Luizmau, honestly has one of the most aggressive Thor’s I’ve seen in a while. He’s absolutely reckless with his X-Factor, popping it to heavy command grab on a whim, but his combos look to maximize damage and his team synergy is absolutely stellar. I really do think Thor and She-Hulk compliment each other incredibly well, especially when it comes to those DHCs. There’s so much good stuff peppered throughout these vids so definitely check them out.

And there’s more at his channel.
I recorded these matches the other day and really didn’t do great against my opponent but I played him before in some ranked games so I knew what I was in for.

I didn’t realize until today that I think I would of done a lot better if I switched from Hidden Missile to Plasma Beam.
