Welcome to the NHK

These are all completed series, hate getting interested in a series, catching up and then dealing with once a month scanslations, if that. That said, some good unfinished series:
Liar Game, Claymore, Alive - the final evolution, soul eater, etc. just check the 1st post.
Yes. I read BotI regularly, and I keep up with the scanlations by Delinquent Manga.
It’s kind of sad that no one really know about this manga in the US, at least not compared to the other big names like Bleach or Berserk or Vagabond. The art is the best I’ve ever seen, and it’s because Samura draws motion so well. You look at Vagabond or Basilisk or Shaman Warrior, and all the fight scenes look static. And then you look at BotI, and the characters actually look like they’re in motion.
I’m not sure how he pulls it off. But it’s damn impressive. It also helps that the characters are much more complex than your average manga.
I thought that lilttle diagram showing the zanmanken look like motoko.
since setsuna implied they’d never teach someone of her stature the evilcutter, but eishun knew it, and motoko and tsuruko knew it - does that mean eishun married tsuruko?
grasping for straws, I just think it’d be really awesome if the 2 stories shared a universe (which they probably don’t).
the flashback showing how setsuna and konoka met pretty much clearly showed motoko, tsuruko (and husband) - and there’s that whole matter of why sakura mei looks exactly like mei narusegawa… but I’m pretty sure akamatsu just said he liked her design and wanted to use it.
I watched the first to episodes, yeah. They were quite interesting and gives me a few vibes of Black Lagoon when it comes to the violence and such. Enigmatic main characters, as well.
So I checked out the 1st episode of Umineko no Naku Koro ni, the next in the line of the “When They Cry” series.
Umineko 1
Spoiler
OP is pretty epic.
Basically an introduction to the Ushiromiya family, how they managed to acquire their wealth and their patriarch’s whole deal with the witch Beatrice.
Battler is pretty funny; very high spirited and loves him some well endowed women .
Maria is the token big-eyed possibly creepy looking loli voiced by Yui Horie. She also has a sound gimmick like Hanyuu (“Uu~! Uuu~!”). She seems to be dead set on believing that Beatrice is pretty much real; and confirms it right at the end of the ep.
Hey, Kokuto (Mikirya), why did you change your name to George and show up here?
The rest of the family seems to have some conflicts with each other; might prove to be interesting to see how they fold out later.
WTF a Rie Kugimiya character who’s neither a loli or flat chested. A rare occurance!
As for Valkyria 13:
VC 13
Spoiler
The setup episode for what seems to be one of the larger battles in the series and introduces Zaka, the Darcsen leading the resistance against the empire. When I first heard him, I almost thought he’d be weilding a sword instead of a gun. Those parts with him and Rosie, still in her Darcsen hater mode, were pretty funny. Could she fall for him? Possible.
I just marathoned One Outs. It is absolutely fantastic. The same great Akagi/ Kaiji feel with a sports twist. A second season can’t come soon enough.
Since im still on a sports anime kick, has anyone seen prince of tennis? I heard good things about it but not great things, also i don’t know if I have the time to invest in another show over 100 episodes.
Tenipuri shouldn’t be interesting, but somehow it is anyway. I’d recommend it.
Also, most reaction shots from the crowd ever… They like shoot a cool ball and then show everyone in the crowd in a separate shot going “OH!”
I’ve watched the Dogs OAV since I’m a huge fan of the manga. It’s faithful to the manga with some additional footage to help tie the character stories a bit more than what the manga did.
Overall, it has a Gun Grave/Black Lagoon feel to it if you enjoy that sort of thing. I highly recommend you check out the manga if you enjoy the OAV.
One Outs is indeed great but I honestly don’t think a second season is necessary. In all honesty you would be getting more of the same thing with increased antes. While that would be nice in it’s own right it would start to get repetitive and in the end it wouldn’t really add anything more to the series. I’m fairly content with how the series ended and look forward to the next thing this group does.
Also, have you’ve seen the trailer to the live action Kaiji movie? That shit looks hilarious as the person who played Light Yagami in the DN movies is playing Kaiji. Total miscast if you ask me but it should be funny/cool to watch.
Also, I’ve seen Prinec of Tennis and it is quite good and is quite addiciting once you get into things. There are some annoying characters but the main cast of players are fine and their matches are quite enjoyable to watch. I wouldn’t really expect realistic tennis though. There are some real life tactics and strategies but the key players ace shots are total exaggerations so depending on how series of a tennis player you are you might get frustrated.
In terms of a light hearted Sports anime this is one of the better ones. I would have recommended Eye Shield 21 but the anime totally butchered the manga so I would refrain from watching that. Otherwise, I think one of the more respectable well known sports animes is Major. It’s a baseball anime if you are into that thing.
For me it’s Canaan. I didn’t like Spice and Wolf too much. Don’t get me wrong, the interaction between Horo and Lawrence was great, but the show was bogged down by everything else.
