well marvel wise, i feel like without their powers they woulda been nobodies. dc i dont feel that way, since it seems alot of dc upper tier guys would have shaped their world around them. but look at cap…he woulda been shit without his powers…shit most likely woulda died on D day.
Alright, actually I’m glad you mentioned Cap as that’s EXACTLY where the semantics come in.
Yeah, if he NEVER got his powers or his origin, he’s either dead or he never gets drafted in the first place, goes on to do not much of anything. However, if you take current Cap and just strip him of his powers? He can actually still get the job done as he still has a lifetime of military training, a great mind for tactics, and has spent a career defeating people more powerful than him anyway along with still being one of the most influential people in the world. Will he still be a Superhero? Not really, no. But he could still run things for Shield or another organization, run tactics for a group and would still be competent enough at a street level. Yeah, he wouldn’t be CAPTAIN AMERICA anymore, but he’d still be someone that could make the world a better place due to his existence.
This is why I ask for clarification. Are we simply talking about heroes who lose their powers, or ones who never got them to begin with, including not getting their Origin Story?
Alright, then I agree with you. Short of being scientists, most Superheroes wouldn’t do a damn thing. And Peter was always too lazy to be a legit scientist anyway so add him to the list.
So we have a very short list of relevant heroes. Reed, Doom (technically, without the Origin Story he likely would’ve remained a decent guy)…yeah, it’s a very short list of people because most of the way Heroes became relevant was not only due to powers but due to the Origins and Experiences brought with being a hero. I mean, mutants wouldn’t even exist, that would change the world completely.
A lot of people are pushing this PP lazy agenda when he spends most of the time saving people. Y’all can’t even do the dishes…smh.
I think PP would have probably been a scientist if he didn’t get his powers but who knows? All we know is the devil got the best of him or whoever wrote that specific story…which is probably the devil himself.
Its not that he doesnt sometimes do legit good things its that the basis of his character is a whiny ass bitch.
How many times does he jump into a situation without thinking it through, just cause he’s feeling sorry for himself or mad at something and turns out to ruin something?
Like when he attacked the rhino visiting his mothers grave and broke her headstone. Spiderman is just an asshole. There’s a reason that writers never really know how to handle peters relationships. Its because peter is a horrible boyfriend/husband
Would Uncle Ben still die? I mean, if you consider the thief still gets away you have to wonder. Some versions of it have Ben looking for Peter at the time, others just have him being in the wrong place at the wrong time. What happens if non-Spidey Peter is with him? For all we know, both could be dead.
It’s what I’ve been trying to say. It’s not as simple as “not having powers” in the first place as it’s rarely as simple as “one day, hero gets powers in a vacuum, becomes hero”. There’s always something along with the empowering that changes the person mentally as well.
he was already headed towards being a scientist, uncle ben dying or not dying wouldnt effect that result imo. he was a gifted student…who was clearly clever for his age. he had alot of missed opportunities as a kid due to being spiderman, now he’d be given free reign for any college…not just in ny. I think the only effect uncle ben’s death would have is his proximity to his grandma. i still think he would have pushed being a scientist far far more so, but also would be helping her.
The original version is the mugger broke into the parkers home because peter didnt stop him after the wrestling match. Thats the best one to me. Ben looking for peter after an argument is adding unnecessary guilt
Yeah, but it does seem more plausible for the latter to happen rather than a thief muggling a wrestling promotion, then going all the way out to the Parkers’ and mugging them too and killing someone.
No, the fact that you conveniently left out that Peter genuinely thought Otto was trying to hurt her, is out of context. And I hardly believe I had to actually explain that to you before you understood it.
Don’t see what sensible man would all of a sudden trust the guy who just stole your entire life, previously being someone who also almost destroyed the world and committed countless other atrocities.
And I never denied that. I’m simply disproving the implication you tried to project onto Peter, as if having doubts about Otto’s true motivations makes him a bad person or something.
And you and me know full well Otto has already made more than his fair share of “misplaced assumptions”…
