I’ll admit i slacked off with this thread. But I promise when UMVC3 gets released i will CONSTANTLY update this thread.
I like how you started this in February and nothing has been updated…it is now November with 3 days until UMvC3
And now we have Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Out of all of the new characters in the roster, I think that Rocket Raccoon has the best synergy with Phoenix. His pendulum assist is absolutely amazing for interrupting combos and keeping her alive. Nova’s a pretty good choice too, since he doesn’t require much meter to function well. If he had an OTG assist, I’d say throw them all together on the same team, but it doesn’t quite work. When it comes to veterans, X-23’s buffs have made her a staple on my team. She was good before, but now that she isn’t outclassed by Wolverine, she’s a great battery, and her Ankle Slice assist compliments Pendulum very nicely.
So, if you’re in the market for trying a new character, but still want a team that has synergy, Serris recommends:
Phoenix (α - TK Shot)
X-23 (****β ****- Ankle Slice)
Rocket Raccoon (****γ ****- Pendulum)

ghostrider/nova is cheap, and nova/phoenix is great (novaforce, phoenixforce…who can really tell the difference?:wink2:). enough flames between ghostrider and phoenix for the pyrotechnically inclined, and some interesting synergy and combos for ghostrider with phoenix’s tk trap assist(s). i still like zero/mag for this phoenix though.

a fairly abstract phoenix team, but has great combos for leveling her up.
Really trying to make phoenix work with very mixed results. I’m playing Ghost Rider/Doom/Phoenix right now. Ghost Rider is a great battery and can do about 450-500 with a jump S into Doom beam and combo. Doom is just super solid all around.
There’s only one thing that’s really dissuading me from playing her in Ultimate and that’s Strider. I can’t figure out an answer for H vajra and ouroboros might as well be death.
do you think that iron fist would have good synergy with him on point and phoenix 2nd or last he is a good battery for sure but i dunno if they match well?
Well heres the thing I feel about iron fist, he needs assists to be truly effective, so if your running him second he wont have any good assist backing him up. Personally Im thinking I might run ghost rider/someone/phoenix, I want a team that even when phoenix dies, Im just losing a character my 2nd character can come in and be effective using my first characters assist and vice versa. I can’t really think of any good batteries in this regard yet but Im sure ill figure it out with time.
yeah i may just take her out for now and use iron fist/ rocket raccoon/ doom instead… it would be sweet for him and her to have something going synergy wise …smh im bummed now *sigh
Well maybe I didn’t put my point out properly, I think iron fist can run with phoenix, he does have some really high meterless damage and can use the chi power ups to increase his meter output. He also has above average health so even if he just dies he builds you a decent amount of meter. Just find yourself a nice back up like doom or something and I believe you should have yourself a very nice team overall. Only issue I see with this team is when phoenix dies, your order becomes doom/iron fist which I don’t think is optimal(although iron fist does seem to have pretty badass assist, and I really don’t know much about the character as a whole anyway)
Long story short, I do believe iron fist would make a good teammate for phoenix.
ah thanks i get what your saying … im thinking doom missles will help alot with Iron Fist on point
I would prefer plasma beam tbh, hidden missles is more of a keep away assist imo while plasma beam/molecular shield would work better with rushdown.
it can also stop pressure too though so thats why im kind of up in the air about it…one more thing … i was wondering if i ran her on point (sounds stupid but i figure id post anyway) … with ghost rider (a or b assist) and used dooms missles to put stuff all over the screen and then try to switch safely during a combo or something until i get 5 bars and then try to keep jean until i need it… i want to zone more if i kept jean out of course… but ppl try to snap her in anyway so why nod just dart of with her and build a team that keeps her safe maybe even use magnetos hyper grav assist and throw in doom missles or sent drones you know so if i lose her i still can have 2 threats left you know? could that work?
lol no, no, no, no, just no. Playing jean on point is an absolutely terrible-and gimmicky-idea, that will never work against a competent opponent. Marvel is too fast of a game for you to play a character with 375k hit points on point. Yea your opponent is gonna try to snap her in, but that doesn’t mean you should oblige them and just put her on point, with that kinda logic why don’t you just kill her as well while your at it since your opponent is gonna try to do that as well? One of the biggest strengths of phoenix is while she forces you to switch up you game plan, she also does the same for your opponent. Instead of killing who ever it is you had on point, your opponent is gonna have to spend a bar for a chance to kill your phoenix on anchor and every time they fail they are expending more and more resources. So when they finally kill her, they’ve spent a ton of bar, and your other characters are coming in with 3-4 bars of meter and are still extremely dangerous.
If you start her on point, not only is your opponent not gonna have to use a bar to get to her, considering she only has 375k, they won’t even have to expend a bar killing her and your other two characters are gonna come in at a severe meter disadvantage. Its just a horrid idea.
Plus personally any gameplan that involves naked tagging is a bad one in my opinion
Hey guys, I managed to do finish massive update for this thread. Character specific summaries are up and there’s an actual opening post! MvC3 characters only, UMvC3 characters coming soon!
Keep in mind, most of the summaries are purely made from my opinion, so i’m 100% sure i’m wrong about a few (or many!) summaries. There are also some entries that are blank (there were a few characters that have absolutely no knowledge though) Don’t hesitate to correct me. I know i’m going to get some flack for my summaries (they’re not too great) but I just wanted to get some work done for once.
lol amaterasu assist is cold star not cold flare fyi.
I’d like to point out that Chun-Li builds a crazy amount of meter in Ultimate, thanks to her self-OTG giving her some amazing combo options out of air throws.
What do you guys think about Wesker/Dorm/Phoenix?
Given that Ultimate has a reduced rate of meter building, I wouldn’t recommend pairing Phoenix with any character who eats a lot of hyper combos for damage, like Dormammu and Crimson Viper. Wesker is still an excellent battery and a great choice thanks to the damage on his normal attacks. Nova might work too, if you use the Centurion Rush assist.
So as of right now I’m committed to using Dark Phoenix, my first ever fighting game stream I ever watched had Viscant commentating and playing and I instantly took to the character and just how scientific he was in his breakdowns, it’s like he plays in slow motion and that’s something I’ve envyed. With that said he’s made me want to pick up Phoenix and use her, and after trying a bunch of people in training mode I just love the way she plays. It’s real comfortable for a beginner like myself, but I’m having a bit of a problem figuring out who to pair her with. I was looking at batteries like Wesker but I was also looking at someone like a Hulk, a high-health character who even if he goes down you’ll still build meter because it takes that much more to hurt him. Then assists I have some things in mind but would rather keep that under wraps for now.
So what’s the best train of thought? Someone who’s self sustainable for the most part like a Wesker, who’s just that more deadly with an assist to back him and who’s arguably right now the most deadly character in the game. Or someone like Hulk, who when you inevitably run into a Hawkeye or a Ghost Rider you can use that assist to get in, but also build meter because it takes so much to down him.
Appreciate it.
I’m in the same boat. I’m new to Marvel as a whole, but Phoenix is my one of my favorite characters and her playstyle fits me well. Plus having Phoenix simplifies my game to where all I need to focus on is saving meter and playing a solid defense with offense when I need it. That being said I’m looking into some teams. I’m absolutely clueless on who to use. I need a battery on point and a character with a good assist to back up my point. I like Wesker on point but who to add in the middle? Also any suggestions for an effective all female Phoenix team would be sweet.
