Soo we lost our big tank, who is new? I am thinking about including wesker in my team instead of sentinel, and using magneto/wesker/phoenix
I’m in the lab now with this team. Two batteries is a good strategy? Or change one of them for more synergy or better assist?
I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be snippy, but when will the contents of this thread be updated with information?
I need help! I want to use Phoenix but it’s so hard depending on having 5 bars to extend her life. I want a good team, i think Amaterasu with ther Bloom is so good as it fills quickly the Hyper bar, but i want a 3rd member, i was thinking on X23 or Wolverine as is one of the best characters i am able to use. Are they good choises or may i be wrong? Help please
I dont have any problem trying other characters but the ones i HATE playing with are Spenser, Hulk, She Hulk, MODOK, Viewtiful Joe, Haggar and Chris Redfield.
Don’t build your team %100 reliant on phoenix, build a team that does good without using meter.
@diogum, Btw I changed my team to wesker/doom/phoenix. Doom works better than magneto, does bigger damage, his assists are better and has a bigger health.
This is likely tied for best Phoenix team, IMO. Phoenix loves Doom missiles like no other assist in the game. Other characters who might perform well in that first slot are Magneto, Iron Man, or Taskmaster. Personally, I’m of the opinion that IM/Doom/Nix is the best Phoenix team.
I started thinking of it so as well, wesker is good but does not have the synergy with doom like IM has.
Im currently running chun li(B), arthur(y), phoenix(B) and am liking how it is working out so far. chun li is great for building meter, 1 corner combo gives me about 2.5-2.75 meters before the team aerial combo and about 1.5 meters for the middle of the screen. IMO arthur is the best keepway character in the game especially with a good AAA, and chun li’s Tenshokyaku does just that pretty well. I play a very heavy rushdown with phoenix combining her air dash and her foward H for approaches and teleports for baited attacks/safe set ups with traps and fire balls.
The only problem might be how low hp they have, but I feel I have enough options to avoid attacks very well and advancing guard really helps against any chip damage
What’s everyone’s opinions/experiences with running Phoenix in second instead of anchor? Or in point, if anyone’s been crazy enough to try that. I’m currently running Wesker(Samurai Edge Low)/Phoenix(TK Overdrive)/Morrigan(Dark Harmonizer), and it seems to be doing quite well. Morri works out to be an extremely stable anchor for me, much more so than Phoenix did, and while she doesn’t have quite the same OCV potential without x-factor, I feel the team is overall more stable set up like this.
I’ve been playing Task/Tron/Phoenix the past few weeks and loving it.
Great defense with Task + Tron. Excellent meterless damage since both characters hit like a tank. Both high health characters who can hold their own in a fight. The duo also works vary well on offense since Tron can make a lot of Tasky’s good attacking options, like mighty swing and shield skills, safe when they otherwise arent. Truthfully, Tron can struggle to get a hit on her own but she can build lots of meter forcing people to block j.H’s and TK Bonne Strikes. Tron also benefits a ton from having an assist on hand in her combos, which is rare for lots of Tron players since she’s in the anchor spot for her assist on most teams.
I really think Tron and Phoenix work well together in general. Your opponent already wants to desperately rush you down since you have Phoenix and Tron grinds all that to a halt. They can’t snap in Tron to deal with her because if they’re snapping in anyone, it’s Phoenix and even if she does get snapped in, Tron assist can either get you some breathing room or be used to generate a little bit of safe offense.
I’d go out on a limb and say there are lots of point characters interchangeable here and that ?/Tron/Phoenix is just a really strong team
Ive been using Dorm/Tron/Phoenix. This team has a lot of potential as tron hits like a tank and builds great meter. I think Dorm is also really good with some mixups and can deal some damage too. My theory with this team is that I am not really afraid to use meter when necessary. I try and not rely on getting 5 bars every match and I feel that Dorm and Tron complement each other very well that if Phoenix happens to die during the match I can still have a good chance to win.
Tron’s assist is great but in a team which you have phoenix, does that really make sense to play a character that only has a good assist. I tried playing tron, but she is really not that good except for her gustaff fire assist.
I have been playing wesker (samurai shot) / sentinel (sentinel charge) / phoenix (tk overdrive) for 2 weeks, and it is working out pretty great!
i use phoenix first, x-23 second, and morrigan last. it works out pretty well. I dont use assists and rarely use DP, so im kinda forced to pick my team like this. i dont save specials, rather i use it for my whole team, but if i do manage to get to level 5, its DP all day. i mostly use her phoenix rage and healing field. the trick i use is to stay as close as possible to the opponent, especialy if they r projectile based or rushdown characters. if its strong chars like hulk, sent, and hagger. i try to stay just out of there hitting range and use her tk shot then teleport to get in. but i always rush in with her
my biggest think is to get close and hit them, before there to far away to chip me to death with projectiles. i mostly use x factor early with pheonix to through the match off and try to get some good damage with her, before its to late.
my worst enemies are trish, wolverine, and ryu.
Phoenix FTW:rock:
Against stiff competition, I prefer Phoenix second instead of Phoenix point. A good battery will give her 4 ish meters before she comes in and having assists to back Phoenix’s considerable offense is great. Also it negates the risk of running Phoenix with the threat of Dphx with XFC level 2 (Which is already good enough). It also makes you look less of a scrub relying on XFC Dphx level 3 …
I’m experimenting with Wesker\Doom\Phoenix, interesting stuff but I got to learn how to get Jean moving in the fight better
Wesker\Doom is a top tier pair.
Wesker from doom gains the insane mixup game (which we all know)
Phoenix ball assist can (help) setup Wesker’s air-techtrap mixup as well
Doom can gain unblockables and relaunch from weskers gun
Phoenix can gain relaunch and unblockables from wesker’s OTG gun
Doom’s beam can set-up the same sort of Hard-to-blockable setups that Wesker has
Doom-Wesker the 2nd best meter building pair in the game outside of Magneto-Wesker IMHO
Worst matchups… Trish Wolvie… Random fullscreen hypers (magneto\storm\Dormammu, I’m looking right at you)
Soviet, I came in here to post almost exactly that! I wanted to delve into Wesker someone Phoenix, and did NOT want to play iron Man. So I’d been using Doom and loving it. BUT, Viscant in his new video says Doom doesn;t work in this context because he doesn’t hold them in place. But he can still juggle, I was confused. Anyway, I’m diggin Doom beam here, but also experimenting w/ Sentinel. You try that, Soviet?
Also, if you don’t mind, when you talk of Wesker’s insane mixup w/ Doom, if you don’t mean teleporting through a beam to ambigu-tize where he ends up, I may not know that which we all know. And yeah, i’ve had a blast w/ Jean out and Doom still spitting beams. Hell, I prob used more lvl 2 XF than lvl 3. By far, really.
Doom can work, Chris can work also. I like Iron Man better because he holds you in the same place for long periods of time. Like if you land a gunshot from any position on screen and Iron Man catches them, they get held in that spot so you can teleport over there and get what you want. Their height stays (mostly) consistent and if they were standing they stay standing.
Doom pushes upwards and knocks characters off their feet. Some people who play Wesker actually like that better. I don’t but it’s more a matter of opinion than law or anything. It’s much harder to throw off of Doom and my Wesker is turning from semi-grappler to almost pure grappler but if you don’t play Wesker like that, you lose basically nothing.

Wow, have to admit I didn?t expect a response straight from the source. Lol Thanks, Jay. And might I say the XCounter video was fantastic! Quite educational. My only disappointment was I was hoping you?d discuss your 2nd team (Wolvie Sent Akuma) a little, since I play it too!
Anyway, Im glad to see you say Doom can work. I was just surprised to hear otherwise, though your grappler explanation does make IM a little more enticing. On that note, though, I had decided to give Tron a try in the role. What do you think of her for it? I spoke w/ Renegade a bit about it, as it?s his main team. I just love Tron in general. We def lose some long range capabilities, but gain some of the grappler possibilities you spoke of. I dunno, I?ll play it w/ Tron for a while, but may have to give iron Man a try. I was really against the idea, as I don?t much like IM in this game, but the idea that his beam so handily adds ?tick? to the mixup is a huge selling point.
PS. Viscant, while I have your ear (eye?), the video left me a Phoenix player (thanks!), but w/ all the xfactor considerations discussed, I?m left wondering your strategy vs other Phoenix teams. Do you blow meter to snap? When its dark vs dark, do you want to be the 1st to XF or 2nd? Thanks again!
I always snap in another Phoenix. The downside to snapping her in is that it costs you a meter meaning that it’s going to be harder for you to achieve Dark Phoenix. But it gives you a chance to kill their Phoenix which stops them from getting Dark Phoenix at all. Generally speaking, as long as your battery builds meter quickly the math is always in favor of trying to kill their Phoenix. I’m sure there are exceptions but on a Wesker starter team, it’s always worth it because he can kill her without expending additional meter off either loop, low A, command grab etc.
I find you generally want to activate x-factor first in DP vs DP situations. The normal downside of “what happens if yours runs out first” doesn’t really apply simply because DP vs. DP matches rarely last more than 5-8 seconds. Plus you don’t want to get caught in the air as DP vs. an x-factored DP since she can come very close to chipping you out completely with 1 meter. Best not to risk it.

Perfectly logical, thanks! I guess the only other question I would ask before clocking in many Phoenix hours: how do you like Tron in the 2-spot? Lose some ranged game, gain some close game. Plus, as Renegade pointed out to me, she can act as a tick similar to what you said about Iron man.
The Ironic thing (pun intended only after I realized it) is your statement telling me Doom would work just fine, actually made me cave about Iron man, which I really didnt want to do. But I have to give tron a shot 1st. Could be way too fun and way too good. (in theory at least)
