Knowing this game is probably bugs out like the Zero shadow snapback glitch or does full damage after a combo etc.
I’m wanting to incorporate Phoenix onto my team. I’m not very good, still getting used to it and I run Dante B, Morrigan Y, and Amaterasu B. Most of my strat revolves around Ammy getting in her level 3 and in general being an anti-Sent. I definitely want to keep Ammy because I really enjoy playing her but I’m fairly indifferent about the 3rd. I was thinking about running this:
Dante Y (multi hit assist to help Ammy play from a distance)
Amaterasu Y (meter builder for Phoenix)
Phoenix ?
Could this be viable? I haven’t played much as I’ve been practicing execution so my main worry is that either Dante or Ammy are going to need to use meter to work well and obviously I’m going to have to rework my Ammy strat and not use her level 3 hyper.
Let me share with you my team, and maybe you can get some ideas from there. I run Ammy (Cold Star)
Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)
Phoenix (TK Shot)
Ammy is insane at building meter. Her entire BnB can build you about a meter of super, right? So while you’re mashing on that C, call in Morrigan’s assist. Get in the habit of slapping that assist whenever they’re caught in Ammy’s ground C-chains, its free damage, regardless of what assist it is, and it’s SAFE. While you’re in the middle of hacking at them with C, you get an extra third of meter. There’s two things you can do here, depending on who it is:
Build 5 meters, then switch in Phoenix immediately. If you’re keep using Morrigan’s assist in conjunction with Ammy’s long combos, you’ll have no problem doing this. People have been running away from Phoenix lately, hoping to time her out, or straight up afraid of Dark Phoenix. If you bring out a Phoenix nice and early, it does to things: One, it relieves the pressure of getting out Dark Phoenix when they run away. They won’t run away from you if you have a full Morrigan, a Phoenix, and an Amaterasu (With some/most life). That’s result in THEIR loss, as by the time runs out, Phoenix can do enough chip. Two, it lets you use your supers if you tag out DP. How many matches have you played where you DIDN’T use that super at the end of your combo because you wanted to save that for DP? Imagine if you already had DP in your third slot? You’d be free to use those supers for whatever else. Save your X-Factor for her like you’re used to anyway. Also, you’ll probably have super meter saved up for her as well (HEALING SUPER!).
The point is, Cold Star is almost too good to pass up, and Ammy build enough meter without her assist. I’d use her as my main battery. I say get rid of Dante. If its the AA you want, Ammy’s power slash covers overhead. Phoenix has enough options. Dante builds a bit of meter with his very long combos as well, but he also gives the opponent a ton of meter as well when they’re caught in it.
TLDR: Get rid of Dante, build meter with Ammy, and transform Phoenix as soon as you get 5 meter, then switch out, and build more meter with Ammy. Morrigan’s a better assist over Ammy because you want Ammy’s meter building on point.
Damn that sounds great actually, thanks so much for the write up. I’m going to work on getting some combos down and play around with that team a bit.
There’s also a mega-super-awesome-easy combo with that team, also.
Do you Ammy setups, then while you’re hitting them with your C-Chains, call Phoenix assist. It’s safe since they’re already being attacked. Continue to attack with Ammy until Phoenix’s orb hits. Once it does, launch, j.M, j.M, j.H, j.H, j.H, then QCF+H. It’ll ground bounce them. The moment you land, hit Morrigan’s assist and launch at the same time. Morrigan will use her meter building assist just as you launch. You can follow up with a short air combo if you want, but the hit stun decay will be really strong, so be careful. You can only get in 1-3 air normals, depending on their height.
Both assists used, no meter used, EXTREMELY easy to hit confirm.
Magneto(a)/Sent(a)/Phoenix(a)
Mechanically, you’d think that Magneto and Sentinel need meter to sustain themselves, but they don’t. They synergize incredibly well together, and Magneto has about 4-6 viable mixups/resets right now. Also, all it takes is ONE Magneto FlyCombo into down-exchange, Sentinel FlyCombo into down-exchange – builds 4 meter.
At that point you can play Phoenix on point, even wrecklessly rush down if you want with proper mixups and teleports, and if she dies, she dies at 5 meter. Throw up projectiles and fill the screen to shield the cold-tag of Magneto – then you’re good to go.
I’ve been thinking about Tron (Gustaff Fire), Phoenix (Overdrive), Sentinel (Sentinel Force (Charge)
The problem with this is that Tron Bonne really has a hard time doing mixups in my opinion. Your best bet is crossing up with j.H which gets really predictable after a while. However, she can build 2 meters alone with combos, and her combos do pretty good damage alone. She also has high health, which is always nice on a team with Phoenix on it.
What do you guys think? I dunno if I should get a more tricky character than Tron Bonne, or take the crazy meter build and health she provides.
I actually use the exact same team with the switch of Phoenix is my point with TK shot. My biggest problem with Tron/Sentinel is that she has no real answer against keepaway and sentinel assist doesn’t help in that aspect either. Phoenix on point usually tears apart pure keep away teams but I’ve been having huge trouble against taskmaster’s vertical shot combined with doom missiles. Most of the time it’s the doom missiles that give me fits though but taskmaster is pretty annoying as well. I’m considering replacing sentinel with doom for his beam assist if it weren’t for the fact that I have absolutely no idea how to use him.
On that note, does anyone have any ideas how to deal with a Wesker rushdown backed by Doom missiles and Taskmaster assists? Those assists make all his approaches very difficult to punish with Phoenix because constantly getting interrupted in chains and a counter attack basically wipes her. Doom missiles are probably my biggest biggest problem by far out of … anything when it comes to using Phoenix as a point character.
dude wolvie is sucide with phoenix, two glass char are too much in your team , i have tried and wolvie gets raped by sent. Then if they catch your sent in a combo they get snapped back and you got one dead phoenix.
wolvie gets raped by sentinel …? Since when @_@
this is my day one team. =]
and probably my day FOREVER team, unless something really broken comes out.
lets all think up some other generic
XXX / SENTINEL / PHOENIX
teams!!!
i’ll start us off: spencer??
When someone is not playing Wolvie like ass, he is amazing in a Phoenix team. Wolvie is one of the best batteries in the game. Sentinel has some of the most highest HP count in the game so even if they beat on Sentinel, that is gaining me meter. If they snap Phoenix in, I’m blowing them up. Doesn’t matter to me rofl
personally, I’ve been using Tron in my Phoenix team since the very beginning (it originally was a Tron team) Sentinel is not the assist for this team. Your options are fairly limited. You have (as far as I researched) Doom Missiles and Dante’s Jam Session. I thought about Dormammu but he is a meter hog. Either way though, Tron is amazing for Phoenix because she builds so much damn meter off of such a simple combo.
Alright boyos, you heard it here first. TEAM TOUGH BUSINESS
TASKY/TRONY/PHOENY
In theory it makes sense, in game it makes even more sense. HOLLA! Not for beginners.
Justin Wong would like to have a word with you.
Been having crazy fun with this game so far using Wesker/Sentinel/Phoenix. Wesker has awesome normals and Sentinel is a tank. I don’t really need supers with either two to be effective. Any advice with this team? I can do most of their BnB’s but I’m still a huge beginner.
already thought of it, good try though.
I’ve been using the same team. Top notch imo. Wesker makes a great battery since his combos are reasonably damaging and end in a mix up. Be creative with setups after Wesker’s otg combo ender. He also works great with drones. Sent makes great use of Wesker low assist since he can have a very hard time opening people up. Phoenix with both of those assists is a no brainer.
Kind of hard to give general advice for the team. It’s pretty straight forward. I’ll try to answer any specific questions if you have them.
Akuma i wish you’d posted it before i stole your intellectual property, it would’ve saved me a lot of team tweaking time!
taskmaster/y
sent/guess which one
phoneix/a(sometimes y)
Dear god, the meter you get from blocked aim masters + drones
task’s bnb gives me 1 whole meter plus i go for a relaunch which makes for moar damage
sent is my weakest char. on this team(lolwut?)… i guess hes there to build meter while getting hit.
i have a feeling Reg.Phoneix is pretty decent with her damage considering the fact that i tend to relaunch, add fwrd h,air m, air s in my air combo, then a tk’d tk(lol) m shot to tack a little damage on top.
im gonna be honest here, once SHE enters, i throw homing, teleport, mash the living shit outta L, repeat.
not cause im stupid and dont know how to combo with her feathers getting in the way, i do it just to troll.
Sup guys. Just looking for a viable Phoenix setup. The obvious choice is Phoenix/Sent/?? but I’m not all that great at Sent’s fly cancel combo so I’m not sure how well meter would build. I’ve been running Doom(A)/Ammy(B)/Phoenix(Y) and the team seems to synergize and build meter well enough together… But then again I’m totally scrubby so I can’t use Dr Doom very well, much less while saving meter.
I’ve been thinking about Ryu/She-Hulk/Phoenix or Ryu/Hulk/Phoenix or Hulk/Ammy/Phoenix but I’m not sure how well they synergize. I’ve also been working with Magneto as a rushdown char because he’s badass even without meter. Also in training mood I haven’t been able to OTG with She-Hulk off of Ryu’s air S, is this my fault or is his air S just not compatible with OTG assists? Thanks for the advice.
EDIT: Also if anyone is replying to help me, I’ve got a pretty decent Chris. He seems to work well with Phoenix as his zone and chip game are great, and he’s an amazing battery. Only problem is besides the Coast to Coast I don’t seem to have a lot of viable combo options, and against human players he gets rocked pretty hard if a rushdown character gets some ground.
