The allies and enemies of the Phoenix Force- Phoenix Team Building and Matchup thread(UPDATE!)

A tank isn’t worth shit due to snapping. You need to avoid getting hit.

if your geting snapped in the first place leveling up ones defense learning to actually play phoenix if snapped in is important, tank characters like sentinel, especially sentinel, make matches just much easier from my experiences.

Trying to find a team that can deal with magneto+sentinel assist… He’s getting a snap after every random hit, and sentinel’s assists prevents you from doing anything…

use dr.doom with hidden missiles, it forces the opp to stop.

but sentinel can keep people out and run away, haggar/thor/tron cannot, or at least not as effectively as Sentinel

If he’s using the charge upward’s assist, you can actually slide under it with low medium. That’s my primary weapon in that instance. either let them think they’re safe when they dash in, or hit them first as they dash to you. I do this especially against pesky teleporters like dormamu who use sentinal’s up-forward charge as cover. They summon sentinal and try to teleport to do mixup. I slide away from them as they start to teleport and slide back as they land and proceed to combo.

As for the whole thing of whether or not she needs a tank, I’ve been growing to accept a basic idea in making a phoenix team. There is no such thing as a phoenix team. Teams rely on the synergy between characters in terms of assists and phoenix fails that horribly. None of her assists are very useful because they get punished easily. She can easily get killed by full screen supers the moment she appears. TK overdrive is the only exception as it has a very quick startup. I’ve learned to think of phoenix teams in different terms. She has different properties that translate to full team strategies and concepts. I’ve started to think of it as two separate teams when I’m using phoenix. The first two in the lineup, and phoenix/dph. Doing so, you just forget the whole argument of whether or not you need a tank. You just need two characters that work together, AND to be able to play both phoenix and dark phoenix well. screw balancing for phoenix. Whoever you play well with, you play well with. If it so happens that you get an assist while phoenix is out, consider it a bonus, but phoenix is so mobile that she doesn’t need assists as much as other chars, imo.

Yeah that’s my mindset as well, find 2 characters that work well together and can keep everyone out until you get 5 bars.
Sometimes Phoenix gets snapped and killed in the 1st 10 seconds and I end up winning the match with the other 2 characters, but I want to prevent situations like this.

Hmmm. you got a good point. So instead, I will just keep Phoenix out and use the lvl 2 X-Factor, which aint bad with Dark Phoenix. My tron got solid too, so she can go in second if I want to abuse level 3 X-Factor instead of Phoenix.

Phoenix matchup :frowning:

Right now i don’t know what to do vs an x-23 with 4 metters who snapback into phoenix and uses dirt nap just as i get in.

Unfortunately, escapes aren’t currently known to that setup; so X-23 may even turn into something of an anti-Phoenix meta pick.

off all the times i have lost my phoenix in a match, 90% of the time was because of a x23 dirt nap super. a few times while playing i am on the verge of ocv’ing a team with dark phoenix …x23 being the last character on the other players team with xfactor activated, dirt nap= instant death on dark phoenix… :frowning:

is there a good strat to avoid this, like how long does x23 stay invisible before the dirt nap super “wiffs” on contact with another character

Dirt Nap has a fixed timer on invisibility like Dante’s Devil Trigger does, she can attempt the move as many times as she likes until it wears off. In open play, it can be tough to avoid if you don’t know where she is, but she doesn’t know where she is either and can find herself running into frantic “get away from me” attacks from the opponent if she’s not careful.

If she’s using it as a character comes in (off a snapback or kill), it seems guaranteed on most characters if she just jumps up at them and hits :s:.

However, I just tested for Phoenix and if you teleport early you can escape that and get a change to run away. She could still bait that by not jumping up at you and instead just waiting to hit :s: as you teleport next to her, though.

Funnily enough; I also tried using Dirt Nap to make her assist invisible, but it doesn’t work. The timer keeps running while she is out and you can’t call her assist until it expires.

hmmm teleport after getting snapped in, i’ll have try that, i was always under the impression that when a character gets snapped/switched in there are a few frames where you have no control of the character whats so ever.

I use Task and Sent w/ Phx with Task on point. Usually play keep away with arrows and drones. Both have tons of health which sort of off-set Phx’s health for a decent team health total and because they can stay out longer it improves my chances of getting 5 bars. That and HSF and Phx’s healing super have that hit stun reset glitch so once I get better at Phx I won’t always have to rely on getting her to DF and spam block strings and homing shots.

Sounds like a good way to guarantee a loop back to the point char in a team aerial combo.

-if you can find a reliable way to secure a tag-out, score a combo and complete 2 exchanges all in 5 seconds.

Phoenix inferno super will beat dirt nap, since it’s invincible for a few frames. You’re fucked if X-23 baits it and blocks it though.

try H teleport? or AD upwards while spamming light attacks. it usually works against my x-23’s dirtnap unless i did a dive towards them.

Not to get off subject but I’m now making Thor/Dante/Phoenix my 2nd Phoenix team. Granted, I kinda wasn’t feeling my 1st one (Dante/Morrigan/Phoenix) but I’m feeling this one better.

I really love Thor’s power. He’s got that weird mobility that I really like in Morrigan, but she can’t deal dick for damage, while you can’t let him touch you. Don’t get me wrong… he’s nowhere near as mobile as Morrigan. But I’m kinda feeling him out a little bit and I like how he meshes with Dante and Jean.

Don’t know if I should put him first. but I don’t like leading with Dante. I think it would be tougher for people to deal with a drastic playstyle change of Thor to Dante.

AND, with the new DHC trick, Thor and Dante/Thor and Phoenix are natural teammates. You can kara throw Mighty Punish straight into either a Devil Trigger combo or a Healing Field combo AND get all the damage from Mighty Punish tacked on. They’ll kill anybody with that power. Especially Might Punish to DPh TK Trap Loop.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Really feeling this team right now. Using Thor’s Mighty Smash Assist, Dante’s Weasel Shot, and Jean’s TK Shot.

What happens if you THC with it active?

Haven’t tried, but I’d guess that you’d get a 2 man team combo.

I somewhat agree with this. Having two characters that work well together on their own is important but building a team with her that does have synergy is possible and should still be considered. My team’s been Chris/Taskmaster/Phoenix. Chris and Taskmaster work really well together. Taskmaster helps Chris keep people out and Chris helps Taskmaster get in. The only time I use Phoenix’s assist (overdrive) is in combos or to make Taskmaster’s web swing safe. Chris and Taskmaster both build a ton of meter so I’m able spare a few for extra damage and still get 5 in the middle of the round. At that point I’ll call in Phoenix. Both Chris and Task’s assists help her in whatever she’s doing, but if she happens to die without 5 meters or even as Dark Phoenix, Taskmaster is more than capable of being an anchor. That coupled with the fact that I’m able to use meter without worrying if I’ll have 5 by the time Phoenix comes in is where the idea of having two teams comes in.
