I’ve settled on Phoenix and Doom as my two charachters, but really struggling to find someone to use point. I know Sent is a good option but I just hate the damn thing so much. I was looking at one of Dormammu or Super Skrull, anyone have any success with those three?
I use Wesker/Doom/Phoenix as my Phoenix team. Wesker doesn’t need to use meter to get good damage. Doom has good assists and when used correctly he’s a great character. And both of these characters have above average health as well. I feel this is a good team.
I was actually messing around with that assist earlier and I do like it. I was mainly using the fireball assist during midscreen mixups but that direct assist works just as well.
Been having some mixed results with pheonix here. Anyway has anyone here had problems against characters with really fast supers? My main problem is against amateratsu, basically once I get DPh I usually end up full screen away with zero meter and before I can begin to pressure amateratsu starts just activating her full screen super back to back until she runs out of meter. If I do anything I get hit and pheonix more than likely dies and if I block I take chip plus life drain. Really just quick supers in generaly are a pain since this girl can’t take a hit.
Just finished a bit of a grind session trying to use MODOK / Phoenix / Sentinel. While my Phoenix needs some work, MODOK / Sentinel appears to be a decent enough battery. I like Phoenix second so I can run her with Sentinel drones and if she dies, chances are I still have Sentinel with a ton of meter and XFactor so it’s a decent hedge.
I’ve been working with two different Phoneix teams, the first being Sent/Morg./Phx and the other being Sent/Doom/Phx. As for the first team, I like the idea of using Sent as a versatile tank that can go both on the offense and play keep away while Morrigan pumps up the Hyper meter with her assist. This leads to an easy 5 bars while giving me the ability to use meter if there is a prime opportunity at hand ie. catch two characters with c.M. I’ve yet to test this team online due to School’s ethernet port acting shitty in my dorm but I think it can work out well. As for the Sent/Doom/Phx team both Sent and Doom do good damage without needed meter, but not sure which assist I want to use with Doom, Missles or Shield. Thoughts?
I have a feeling in the long run Phoenix players are going to have to learn to use her as point as she really does have all the tools to be played as point. If your jumping or in super jump state a lot its really hard to get tagged with combos that will kill you in one hit. Ive been using Phoenix/Doom/Morrigan. I pretty much cheese whoever I am playing by calling assist (Doom’s missles or Morrigan’s meter builder) and super jumping or regular jumping into fireballs to avoid any confrontation. If I am using doom assist I will start doing teleport shenenigans or triangle jump into an approach when missles are raining down on the opponent. Once you get dark phoenix you pretty much do the same strategy except you even more powered up. Its pretty much an all in team, but its very effective in the right hands. Doom’s assist is so good because if people try to super jump after you they get nailed by missles in the air and homing fireballs. Obviously if the opponent gives up trying to approach then you use morrigan’s assist to build meter. If you land at least 2-3 combos with her you pretty much can get 5 meters fast. Only storm really counters this strat cuz of her hail storm.
Haggar is so effing easy mode but Chris is like cannon fodder for me. I keep hesitating in what buttons to press. This character really takes a while to get used to.
The flamethrower is a great anti air though.
I’ve been using Spencer/Doom/Phoenix and Spencer/Morrigan/Phoenix. Both seem to do decently against folks I play, but granted, we all kinda suck (I’ve never been a Marvel player, so these mechanics all feel foreign to me). My basic gameplan is Spencer on point, with either Morrigan building meter during keepaway, or Doom assisting Spencer’s meterless damage with rocks. The typical five bars, phoenix in, etc. I haven’t fully settled on one assist or the other for either Phoenix or Spencer; I’m not very good at picking assists for synergy yet.
So I guess what I’m asking is:
- How do these hold up?
- Which assists would benefit these teams best?
My team right now is interesting, it is working well so far:
Amaterasu, Morrigan, Phoenix. with both assist of +meter and TK shot assist with phoenix.
- Amaterasu and Morrigan are very versatile, both can be played rushdown or keepaway if needed, so i have tools against mostly anything they bring to me at this stage of the game.
- Both have a +meter gain, so while i’m with Amaterasu or Morrigan i can use each other’s assist to build meter no matter how. I try to exchange them in an air combo.
- If i’m playing keepaway whith any of them, the TK shot assist is great to add pressure.
It is working very well so far in random ranked matches, switching from ranged attacks to rushdown when needed, and building metter when i’m at the offense… but random-people’s strategy are not fully developed.
The drawback is that i have ‘2 glass cannons’ because of Amaterasu has low health too, and that i don’t have support assists or ‘get off me’ assists.
Filipino Champ was running Magneto, Amaterasu (with Bloom), Phoenix tonight on the Starbase stream and tearing fools up. He would end up with 5 hyper bars by the time Magneto died and Dark Phoenix would always end up closing out the entire match.
Was the stream recorded??? Are there any videos of it??? Could you PLEASE PLEASE tell me the web adress of the Starbase stream???
Thanks!!!
I’m trying to run Deadpool (quick work) Iron man (unibeam) and phoenix. I can run both deadpool and ironman as hit and run characters, and both have pretty easy meter gaining bnbs.
both phoenix and deadool and use the unibeam assist with a teleport to set up a mxup, and both phoenix and ironman can triangle jump in with a quick work assist (I’m not good enough to make it an unblockable, but I can at least make it a scarrier high low).
I still haven’t found an assist I like with phoenix yet, as her being out is just too risky.
well i have been playing with phoenix since the game came out, i have been trying a lot of teams, but all have failed, if you are playing against a good player, they will save their meter and chip you to death.Or just win by time,so you have to put pressure. Here is my theory, you need a power house like sentinel, and you will have to burn a meter or 2 , you have to kill the main treats for jean, and one really really big treat is dormmamu, you can do little against him, you blink and you are death.Ammy is worst, one fireball and you are death,so you need a nice battery and a nice power house, hulk could work,or sent.I tried tron for battery , and she is really good, she has like 60 hit combos without hyper combo, but she gets punished a lot, so im thinking dante or maybe wolvie for battery. The strategy that works is to trow jean when you have 4 or 4 and a half meters, jean in phoenix mode can give some headaches, then when she is dead , change char, why?, she is bad ass with meter. If you can build 2 meters and have dp in the bench, you have a lot of probability in favor.X factor hyper combo spamming kills a lot.And one thing, if you are beasting for example with sentinel, dont hold you meter, kill all treats, dont waste your momentum, if you can win with 2 char do it.Now , mags or storm doesnt work for battery, they are to fragile, and get raped by sent. You need stability, so dante may work, dante.sent.phoenix, or hulk-sent-phoenix should be nice teams, dormamu and arthur are meter wasters, they have 0 synergy with jean. This team building is going to be hard.
I was considering Hulk/Sent/Phoenix for a while, but right now I’m having more success leading with Spencer.
I think you guys underestimated Spiderman + Phoenix. Spiderman is an incredible meter builder, he doesn’t really burn Hyper bars & he’s extremely fast. I’ve been cruising with Spiderman / Phoenix / Sentinel and I find the team to pretty solid. Sentinel when paired with Phoenix is just ridiculous. I never save up for lvl 3 x-factor Dark Phoenix (thanks for the tip fellow phoenix players) and I just go nuts Phoenix when I have 5 bars. She’s so monstrous she basically forces the opponent into using an early x-factor. I usually cripple the opponents team with Phoenix and clean up with Sentinel (who is extremely hard to take down when he has a lvl 3 x-factor)
PS: Updating the thread next week with everyone’s input.
Any suggestions for dealing with Shinku Hadoken happy Ryu’s? That’s the biggest issue I’m having with Phoenix at the moment. She’ll get snapped in or be the last team member standing, and they’ll just start spamming Shinku Hadoken’s and chip her out. Even Dark Phoenix falls to this, level 3 XFactor’d or not. That Shinku Hadoken just comes out faster than I can react to it.
Alright guys, I was going to post this in the main forum for MvC but decided you’re all the resident experts so I’m gonna hit you with this one!
I’ve been fiddling around with this game the last week or so, trying to find a team that I like. Since I’m new to the series and fighting games in general, I’ve done a lot of reading about the charachters, their moves, etc opposed to playing(online at least) as I wait for my new controller to come in the mail. Anyways, I’ve settled(for now) on a line-up as follows.
Point - __________
Assist 1 - Dormammu
Assist 2 - Phoenix
For the life of me I really cannot figure out who I want to run point. I’m looking for a player who builds meter nicely and doesn’t need hypers in order to take somebody down. Also, high health, mobility and damage is a priority. I’ve had my eye on Wesker, Taskmaster and possibly Spider-Man(clearly the weaker of the two I listed prior, but I love that mobility) I will not use Sentinel and am reluctant to use Dante because everyone and their mother also uses him. If anyone could provide me some tips on point that would be awesome.
i go with trish/storm/phoenix . Trish keeps away with storm’s whirlwind assist an is suprisingly an underated meter builder. If i am winning though i go nuts by bringing in storm and kill em off . And i LOVE phoenix as a normal character. Jeez i understand why her health is crap. either way trish’s peekaboo and storm’s whirlwind stops rushdown in addition to her tk traps. Only thing that seems to suck about this team is i cant seem to stop projectiles. maybe its just me. lol
Im thinkin of switchin storm with magneto cus it seems like his combos build a hell of meter
As for shinku happy ryu’s. Block. when the chip damage get’s the half or 3/4s activate x-factor while blocking. In x-factor you don’t take chip. If you wait though, now you have dark phoenix with x factor and meter advantage.
As for a point, i’d recommend either deadpool or iron man. both can do meterless relaunches on their bnbs, which gives you more damage and meter per bnb. Iron man has flight, and spectacular air normal range, and deapool can do great hit and run with ninja suprises/ filling the screen with bullets.
