I would man but I haven’t been on XBL for a little bit. I moved to Greensboro. We need to get up soon though, I have gotten much better since we last played and I’m sure you have to.
Does anyone still play wolvie/sent/phoenix? I know that there are better teams for Phoenix but is this team still good?
Any tips? I usually just call drones x n with wolvie on point and he dies, then I hope to get 1 bar from my sentinel as he get mauled. With any luck by the end of all that mashing I am at or close to 5 bars. My phoenix is really bad too! Ha ha.
Mags is beyond my skill level and I don’t like Doom.
Also, I <3 Wolvie and the x-foos.
d-_-b
TOKIDO’s vanilla team is still a great team. Despite Wolverine getting the BS nerf, the drones/BS mix up is still good and nets you pretty good meter for a hit confirm into combo. If you really wanna get good with that team, you should probably know the PHX bnbs and at least know how to do her XF3 infinite if you happen to get into a situation where you have only PHX left and you are flirting with around 3 bars.
Is wesker/magneto/phoenix good?
yes
I actually do

Any tips against Strider when playing a Phoenix team? I feel like I gamble the whole match on the first snap if I choose to snap him in.
If you have a character/meter advantage and they’re 2nd character isn’t as good or not much of a threat go for the snapback and try and get the mixup and if you hit him kill him.
What I tend to do though is kill the first character and then get their 2nd character down to low enough health and try to bait them to use vajra and once I see them use vajra i team super as he’s falling down and the team super kills, you can xfactor the team super to make sure as well or to catch the point character if they are pressing buttons.
Other stuff to know about the stider matchup. Don’t know how well Kubota escape would benefit if he activates orbs from far away but it could help. Also TK trap L w/ regular/dark phoenix stops Vajra and teleports on her. Also TK overdrive H goes through his level 1 animal super. Also this is a good thing to do but if you know your to far away and they activate orbs you can’t telport because the orbs will hit you but what you could do is buffer the TK overdrive H input (if your far away, maybe L if your midrange or kinda close) and do the move during the super flash or right when it activates and since the orbs are projectiles if he’s not blocking he’ll be caught in the attack then you can xfactor into full combo or trap infinite.
And that’s all that I can think of for now. But yeah usually when I play my goal w/ strider is to try and find opportunities to punish him as an assist so that you don’t have to deal w/ the level 3 xfactor oroborus BS.
Also depending on the 2nd character they have if your left w/ phoenix solo against a strider team and depending on how they use strider to mix you up you can super on reaction to the mixup or strider call and then xfactor and try and go for a combo if they’ll be caught together and such. (of course though this is alittle risky and on a situation basis, like you can’t really do this strategy against a spencer strider team if spencer is on the ground because he can level 1 on reaction. However if he calls strider and uses it to approach w/ his zip maneuver then that would be a good time to super)
Would Mags/Dante/Phoenix work?
yes because mags is a great battery and dante is a good assist plus he can be plan B if they kill jean because he’s good with meter
After watching Yipes win then reading Viscant’s views of the team, I have to say is a Phoenix Team can handle itself against it. The problem I saw Filipino Champ had was against the Nova/Strange keep away. Phoenix can get threw Nova’s little keep away. THE problem is having the meter or have the rest of the team being able to face off against the Nova keep away. Specific Phoenix team, more importantly the one Viscant himself put up as a good Phoenix Team, has a good way to get in. Trish with her slide as well as Phoenix’s slide can go under the Bolts as well as move out of the way of the Javelin if timed right. But it leaves Nova to the advantage of overheads. Phoenix is the only one who can get out of this with a teleport since bolts has a pause which gives her enough time to use it if you cancel the slide into teleport. Tested it myself. Though if Nova doesn’t go for the over head but instead just stops and waits, he can grab her before she recovers from the teleport… But that’s where a Phoenix Rage during recovery comes in. If Nova uses Speed tackle then DHC Phoenix out or XF. Now the tricky part comes to morrigan. She can’t do much because she doesn’t have a slide. So her best option is to super jump in one spot and dodge the Javelin as well as dodge the bolts which any character can do too. Also anyone who goes up against Nova must know that Nova can cancel the Javelin into a hyper. So If a Nova feels threatened they may just hyper to keep safe or to punish any advancing character. Which is also a bad thing if they have meter and try to use the Nova glitch. Wouldn’t worry about that in a tournament though.
The only time I figure that Strange will have an upper hand is with Dark Phoenix due to feathers. His Seven Rings will easily put a stop to her. Though up close the Seven Rings aren’t that helpful since the actual physical attack tends to hit before the feather does. I say tends because for some reason its not always the case. TK overdrives are also Dark Phoenix’s best tool against strange since it doesn’t count as a projectile if strange decides to random Seven RIngs. His teleports are good counters to hers as well but they can be played to her advantage if he does a teleport which leaves him above her.
I’m not saying Phoenix team can flat out beat it, no that’s crazy talk. I’m saying that any Phoenix Team can hold it’s own while getting around the Nova/strange keep away. More importantly the Phoenix Team team with Trish can get through it. With it then you got yourself a regular match up since Nova player will have to come up with something else other then keep away.
The only thing that I’m unsure is with Spencer. I haven’t fought a Spencer who knows how to counter air Keep away. Let alone who uses this team.
Just my thoughts and what I tested. And I’m not claiming to know the match up perfectly. Just figuring out what Phoenix teams has to counter…
One last note,
If a Phoenix player knows what the Nova player is about to do,(Nova/strange)she can TK overdrive H to stop it or she can TK overdrive M into down-forward dash to try to combo them both. Neither are a guarantee since Nova can stop way before Phoenix gets close or hyper her.
I honestly don’t see the case where people say that Phoenix has a bad matchup against Dr. Strange. I feel like the matchup is like 6-4 in Phoenixs favor.
I agree… All of Phoenix’s normals are much better than his… And most stranges use meter to try to punish Phoenix, so all u have to do is bait out SOV
Does anyone use Morrigan and Phoenix together? I keep trying to find a good way to make Morrigan do damage with Phoenix on the team without losing too much meter. Suggestions are welcome. I know Phoenix Rage -> Astral Vision lands Soul Drain once, but that’s not covering enough for the 2 bars I just spent. If I could land two Soul Drains off of it I’d be cool with just TACing to Phoenix and DHCing Morrigan back in.
Thoughts?
I don’t know, I wonder if its possible to use V.Joe’s slow hyper dhc into astral vision and use soul drain multiple times? Joe/Morrigan/Phoenix might work if that dhc does.
So I’m looking into Phoenix teams… Up until recently, I was running Wesker/Dorm/Doom… I kept on noticing, “hey, wait a minute, I never use any bar with Wesker, and almost never use any bar with Doom”… And then I saw FChamps Dorm/Doom/Phoenix team at Canada Cup. So I’m wondering… Who should I drop from the team to add Phoenix? I don’t think it’s Doom - Wesker/Dormammu has decent synergy but Wesker really wants a beam assist, and Dormammu really wants help with keepaway.
You want to drop Dormammu or Wesker.
But which is better, Wesker/Doom or Dorm/Doom?
I like wesker doom better than dorm doom.Wesker w/ beam assist is pretty good. And wesker has easier/better resets in my opinion that you can do which would help build meter.
I think it’s a stylistic difference. Pick who you want to play between Wesker and Dormammu. They have drastically different playstyles, so it shouldn’t be too hard to reflect and decide upon. Wesker is probably the easier of the two to do well with on a Phoenix team.
