Anyway… regardless of all the back and forth over whether I’ll be coming around on Thursdays, I’ll be back there tonight (Friday) if I can get out of the office at any decent hour. Bring it! :bgrin:
depending on what time the last tourney game ends tonight, ill try and show up
It’s cool. I could say something generic and @$$ed like “come on out! We’ll change you! We’ll open you up!”
But that’s stupid. Do whatever you’re cool with. I am the same way, at times, and it’s annoying when people nag you about “coming out.”
Anyway, we actually ahd more people over this last Thursday but some of them weren’t there for fighting games so it was actually about the same… maybe one less.
I’m hoping we can get all former atendees as well as new ones next Thursday. I can’t wait for HD.
Well, I wound up ringing up Tyram to meet at Fairfield Tilt, so it turned out okay for me then. Tonight wasn’t so fortunate, I didn’t get away from the office until 9:15 or so and didn’t make it to Scandia until about 10, and it didn’t shock me at all that nobody was there.
I may wind up just biting the bullet and going to the Thursday things if I actually start getting away from work in time, because the crapshoot at Scandia to find anybody there on Fridays and the fact that the employees don’t seem to put maintenance too high on their priorities is kind of a pain. I don’t know, is there any other arcade with an MvC2 machine or anything around here? That works? Northgate Mall has an arcade but it looks really crappy for any sort of fighting games, doesn’t even have most of them.
round table has an mvc2 machine in montgomery village that just got new sticks, but no one ever plays there, and i only play it when i pick up a pizza.
Stiltman, the reason these home gatherings have started is because arcade establishments don’t have faith in fighting games anymore, and for sort of good reason from a business standpoint. They are very high maintenance and don’t have that high of a return. Still, if you’re going to tease your customers with the prospect of a decent fighting section in your arcade, you better go all the fucking way, or else people are just going to do in-house gatherings and play these games for free.
Personally, I prefer arcades. But until someone at Scandia REALLY gives a fuck, I’m not even going to bat an eye.
Also, traveling to Northgate for NO ST isn’t very appealing.
Northgate has a very… sophomoric arcade, is how I label it. At least when i went (years ago, actually, so I really can’t say).
Tekken 5 was, like, 2 rounds and, like, 75 cents or some BS. Showed me where their minds were at.
As far as Scandia goes… i’d be all about it if crap worked (their fault) and if people turned up consistently (our fault). If we’re going to want people to make business moves in our favor, we’re going to have to make it worthwhile for them (of course, they’ll have to AT LEAST have things in working order…)
I mean, we either have to front the effort or expect a no go. I’m holding these Thursday meetings in an attempt to get some sort of community going. I mean, we have the people, we just need the comraderie and consistency. There could be that random d00d that shows up to Scandia with some skill andn ever returns because we weren’t there. Sometimes our participation goes a little further than just getting games in.
I’m guilty of foregoing scandia outings, which isn’t good because that’s where I met most people here in the first place. So writing it off isn’t a good idea.
Maybe someone should suggest tey simplify. As fun as it is to pass a little time on shniznoz like Hokuto No Ken, they really should dum the extraneous mess and focus on the few high profile games they have…

There is another arcade in Marin. Video Bob’s Starbase arcade. His fighting game list from the website:
Fighters: Tekken 5 with a 33" monitor and perfect 360 digital joysticks, & card readers, Soul Calibur 3 (new digital joysticks), Tekken 4 in a 39" pedistal style cabinet (only 25 cents), Soul Calibur 2, Mortal Kombat 3 and 4, Marvel vs Capcom, Street Fighter 2’ Hyperfighting, King of Fighters 2002, & 2005 (10th Anniversary), SVC Chaos-SNK vs Capcom, Fatal Fury Special, & Samuri Shodown 4.
some work better than others. I am trying to get Bob(the owner) to get ST or CvS2 but we’ll see.
He is also having an open house on April 5th to celebrate
the anniversary of the arcade and all the games will be on freeplay so a good time to checkout what he’s got.
I gone to the arcade in Northgate all the time when I’m in the mall just to see if they have anything. They never do, so I wouldn’t go out of your way to visit.
If you’re really desparate, SFSU has Marvel, but most people there play CVS2, 3S, and Melty Blood. It’s probably 45-60 minutes from where you live.
He used to have 3S but it must’ve gotten peaced out. The arcade is pretty shambly but I stop by there whenever I’m in San Rafael. We are in dire need of a local CVS2 machine, though.
In any case, I’m teaming up with someone to build some “things” that’ll make the in-home arcade experience that much more exciting.

An insert quarter slot for your PS2? Sweet!:woot:
I hope it’s a portable P.A with a mic and or a megaphone
… Have I been there before? Is it THAT one? There was something about that one… like you wanted to buy a machine from there or something… I can’t remember. Just, something is clicking in my head telling me that something stupid happened concerning that arcade…
Either how… I love the MVC2 machine at Roundtable here in Santa Rosa. It’s on, like, 300% damage, super fast time, or something (smart move by them, actually…get those foo’s off the machine quicker) which lets Ken kill pixies in, like, one air Hurricane combo.
It’s annoying for vs play, but for the 2 1/2 hours I was into Marvel, it made for a good place to stop and practice without needing to be at the machine for an hour (exaggeration) to beat the whole game.
THURSDAIIIIIIIIII!!! (sic)
Who’s showing up?
Will this be the day that Rivival unveils his invention to increase the gaming experience!
Who will get the Final Smash!
Can you believe you just lost?
I have decided… I think it’s time to start collecting some cabinets. Either just for the games within them or so we can set up consoles within Cabinets.
I’m nominating Rivival to be the one to maintain them. He’s the only person I know who can. And I can just bribe him with the cheap foods.
round table machine has the glitches, scandia does not
Dan, by now it’s important that you realize that scandia doesn’t have alot of things.
I just started playing Brawl, and for some reason I like it a lot more than I liked 64 or Melee (might be just the people I playing with are at my level). In any case, you’ll have one more Brawl player this summer. Woot.
OK.
So, anyone planning on showing this Thursdai. Or should I just say F it, this week.
Also, you can preorder SF4 cabs now!
We should all just pool together and get one.
And keep it at my house.
You guys are down.
Hmmm. Maybe I should try that place (Video Bob’s) out. If it turns out that their fighting game maintenance regime doesn’t suck, should we think about trying to make that a hangout, or is it too far off the beaten path for anybody to really go there in this thread?
It might be madness (I was at work really late last night :looney: ), but I’m going to tentatively say I’ll be at the Scandia tonight anyway. That left stick on MvC2 is pretty dang frustrating, but at some point if we don’t play there and demonstrate that the thing’s a money maker for them then they’re not going to take us seriously when we ask them to spend money fixing it. As I was saying to the Fairfield peeps a month ago or so… you can’t expect an arcade, as a business, to go out of their way to support a fighting game community and then do the majority of your playing at somebody’s house instead.
