The 707 Sonoma County Thread

While RCing has it’s place, I think having a good footsie game is far better than being able to RC. Hell if you play K-Groove you cannot RC, and there are a lot of good K groove players at high level. Just gotta watch out for shosho chip since you cannot AC it.

Playing at the tourney has sparked me to learn CVS2. I’ll leave the sticks at your house, DS if you’d like. My GF’s car got stolen… WITH the joysticks in there.

And guess what was in the car when it got recovered? Yeah baby.

I think marvel is too far up to learn at this point, but if you guys come over often enough I’ll start playing just out of spite.

I would go by the Scandia more often if more people would play MvC2 with me when I do. And, like, keep playing even when they lose a little. I’ll play Magneto if I have to. Surely you guys can beat my Magneto, right? I mean… it’s MY Magneto! From a guy whose caption reads “I can move FORWARD too???” Seriously. It’s really bad. Any time I walk into a given arcade, if I don’t have the worst Magneto in the place, there’s something wrong.

I’ll play you at marvel the next time I go. Maybe this upcoming weekend?

Nobody knows how to play Marvel. Heck, when we first started playing, people wouldn’t use STRIKERS(that’s what they called assists). They said that was “cheap”.

We’ve taken it as far up as we can take it. We introduced the most basic of Marvel basics, but I don’t play Marvel mainly because I don’t enjoy the type of gameplay it offers. However, just by playing you guys, the local scrubs have leveled up their play. If you’re looking for big comp, Scandia is not the place to go; however, if you help teach scrubs how to be non-scrubbish, they will eventually be worth playing. Hell, they’re WAY better than they used to be.

Where the hell are your 3rd Strike and ST players?

First thing all the marvel players need to learn is to mash out of magnetos tempest super.

If I or any of my friends are there, please feel free to ask us how to do anything.

As far as stiltman goes, I’m not sure if we’ve played you as of yet. We’re by no means top-tier when it comes to MvC2, but we can hold our own. I just recently started to practice it again, so if there is any better competition at scandia in marvel please bring it.

As far as 3S goes, I will learn it. The gameplay style is still new to me. Give me a good night of practice with the people who can play and i’ll be hanging. I can play ST to a point. Just never bothered to learn them.

My group has always been a MvC2 group, and I love CvS2. I’ll admit the competition at marvel out side of Sam, Dave, Chiao, and myself is pretty scrubbish. It can certainly change. Gotta get rid of the low-tier teams is all.

Always willing to help with Marvel advice. Just don’t go to scandia enough.

Stilt how good are you at marvel, and have you played any of us that were there last tournament?

Stuck in the ATL. I’ll be back in two weeks for a bit, though. :lovin: You’ll probably kick my butt again, though.

I don’t like Marvel progression. Much like I don’t like DOA progression. In fact, Marvel progression is even worse.

Step 1 is to pick the right assists. Congratulations. You’ve just reached the next level.

Step 2 in Marvel is to pick the right characters. Congratulations. You’ve just reached the next level.

And I don’t mean “congratulations, you now have a slight advantage over players who haven’t done it through your knowledge” like learning a special move grants you in most games. In those games, learning a special move can even sometimes be a DETRIMENT because you focus on that over fundamentals if you don’t know what’s going on.

I mean in Marvel, you become nigh unstoppable. Rivival and I ran over most Scandia competition for a helza long time by using the “good teams” and then just by throwing good assists behind mediocre characters, or in Rivival’s case, basing teams around landing Ken’s air hurricane kick.

While it was funny, it was also kind of depressing because nothing was going to come of anything until people switched to “good teams.” Which leads to less freedom and BSing which is good if a game progresses better.

Unfortunately, after that, the next step is muscle memory for combos and the ilk. I’m still bored.

Then the next step gets sort of interesting but still not. You begin learning things like guard breaks, infinites and 50/50 lockdowns. I, personally, believe that 50/50’s manifest themselves abit too easily in Marvel and it makes for a lot of cookie cutter playstyles because it is so practical to mimic certain ones to a large degree…

If that makes sense. If I watch a good 3s player, I can’t 100% mimic 10 seconds worth of play EXACTLY and get any decent results. The lockdown in Marvel and the space control is so dominating so easily that I actually CAN mimic something to that degree…

This isn’t a scrub argument because I can see the charm and see how it can be addicting and even fun. Unfortunately, in order to get to where you can really diverse yourself in the game and do more than just execute what you’ve read/seen, i’m already bored.

It’s attractive how in that game, a mistake can lead to death (really) and a good guess can lead to the opponent losing one or even two characters. I just find Mag 50/50 + Psylocke into aerial rave or Cable ground string into AHVB to be… boring. Just due to the way things are applied.

Not taking anything away from the game. It’s just not my style. Luckily, I don’t mind throwing some good assists behind Amingo and seeing what I can do. It works because I understand how the game is and the handicap i’m working with. That’s the only way I can create fun in that game. Until something compels me to learn more.

And to the guy who says no one will play him at Scandia because they lose… have we ever played? I’ve played tons of losing streaks in Marvel simply because it’s fun tweaking Amingo strats to get results.

So… i’m thinking Wednesday or Thursday to meet at my place this week. Anyone down?

Stilt most of the players at scandia don’t really play MVC2, however my friends and I do. Personally I don’t think we’ll be losing much, but if you can beat us more the reason for you to come play. Saturday is the best time for me to get my friends to go.

As far as MVC2 goes, if it’s not your game, I understand. Personally I hate SF3, the only reason I wanna play it is because people at Scandia do. I just meant for people who want to play MVC2, it’s hard to do anything against top tier teams because, the game is in fact broken as far as tiering goes. Combos/resets/and guard breaking we can help with if needed/wanted.

I stopped practicing MVC2 in favor of CVS2, but I’ve played MvC2 so much that it’s like riding a bike, I can still play it easily. Execution just lacks a bit. I love CvS2, play the game people.

As far as going to someones house, if invited I can see if Sam can make it and we can bring our sticks (which only work on DC) and the DC and game pack if needed thursday.

PM’s sent to [az] hoax and Nick

Booya

Is there going to be another tournament in March?

EDIT: IS CvS2 fixed?

Every good K-Groover I know talks about the terribly taxing uphill battle fighting a RCing A-Groover is…

I will play MVC2 but I play it casually. Of course I try to win, but I don’t put in the effort that I would need to to provide a rewarding experience for those who play against me. Unless they just like winning in which case we both win. I just can’t get into the game in the manner that will allow me to really improve.

If you all want to come through with the phat DC sticks on Thursday, i’m down. I’ll even ply marvel. It’s entertaining enough.

i dont konw if i down today i think about it

My phone got stolen today.

Nick, Dan, Fu, Kris can you please PM me your cell numbers?

Everyone I didn’t ask, I probably have your number on my comp. or haven’t met you

Scandia tonight. I totally squandered my whole day yesterday and didn’t call anyone about meeting up then again no one called me so I don’t feel bad.

See y’all nigz tonight.

I’ll be there at some point tonight as well, hopefully cvs2 is up.

EDIT: Most likely between 7-8 I’ll drop by.

I’ll be busy at a LAN party. Playing MvC2, CvS2, 3S, and SSBM with some intermittent Starcraft. All in all, a great time.

What’s the status of CVS2 at Scandia?

I arrive Friday evening. Free wins will ensue. :lovin:
