The 3rd Strike Online Edition Video Thread

from what ive seen the invincibility is just during super startup like the flash and shit. but the thing is chun li is lame and she moves during the startup.
unless i misunderstood when i saw the hitboxes. so if she comes out of that with a projectile inside of her somehow, yeah shes gonna be hit as she goes to start kicking.

also i dont think fireball invincibility is a thing in 3S. its just invincibility in general. like having no hittable box. q’s super is like that too, after the flash he has a few frames where he has no hittable box but does have a hitbox.

You have good reactions Poe. Please start to work those high and low sa1 hit confirms into your game because if you dedicated those reactions you have to hit confirms instead of random tatsu/srk you’d be surprised how much damage you were missing out on. Also as RashinX has sorta pointed out in another thread, after most sa1 confirms land there are a few ambiguous crossup options to use for even more damage. Not to mention ambiguous crossups after a lk tatsu -> lp xx hk tatsu that have variations for EVERYONE!
Finally I was thinking about that wake up KKZ you like to use. When we played last time I smelled it and avoided much more than it landed. When I win a match with you because you threw out a KKZ just for heck of it I feel like I’m winning a game of pool by the other guy sinking the 8 ball. No satisfaction.:shake:
But you’ve still come a long way since we started playing against each other.:woot:

Haha cheers, thank you for writing that. You are definitely right about the KKZ, you were all over that last set. I swear I’m not being defensive or making excuses when I say that when you and I play, especially at 4 AM, I’ve sometimes felt there was an unspoken understanding that we often go out of our way to land demons and KKZs in the midst of our crazy divekicking, perfecting each other back and forth insanity, but maybe that was all in my head :stuck_out_tongue: maybe I’m alone here, but sometimes it just feels great to wake-up KKZ as a sort of in-game “fuck you” even if it costs me the game… lol

I’m definitely coming around to SA1 hit confirms… I have a ways to go but last night/this morning I hit more of them than I ever have, by far. I actually uploaded a video that should be up now where I hit a couple. I promise I’ll keep working on them, just so I can stop giving you those “eight ball wins” and show off my my reactions :stuck_out_tongue: for real though, all of our games together and your coaching have been invaluable to my progress and ENJOYMENT of 3S, and I appreciate your continued interest in both

I guess you’re right about being a little ridiculous with KKZ/demon when we play really late, especially when we have a closed room just going back and forth. Personally if I’m gunna be really risky with a wake up super I’d use wake up demon or maybe hp.srkxxsa1 though you have certainly lured me into using random KKZ at times. Bad habbits rub off ya know, lol!
At least with wake up demon if you’re in the corner and they jump it then there is an opportunity to get out of the corner.

Yeah, but… KKZ looks so fucking cool… LOL

and lol bad habits… I’ll show you a bad habit… ::lights cigarette and puffs smoke in funland’s face:: SHOUSHI

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to make a new post for this: my first to ten set against JR Rodriguez. If you have any aversion to Akuma’s “tatsumaki” special move, you miiiight want to skip this one…

And, just to balance out all of that Akuma mirror seriousness…

drawing a blank…? I probably need to actually look at my friend list.

ggs in ranked the other day. Your Makoto is very frustrating. On my third encounter with you I had to keep telling my self “Don’t get grabbed!” over and over.

played a few matches against kefkaggpo recently and he uploaded one of them (well I assume he uploaded them because it wasn’t me!).

I’d love any advice I can get, I know I’m not super great and there’s a lot of room for improvement. two obvious things of course: I try to reversal super with my super and an uppercut comes out in round 2. and in round 3 I crack under pressure like a retard and throw out an ex uppercut on wakeup.

any advice/criticism/etc?

you shouldnt be spamming ex moves, you need to save your meter for brave dance.

if you block sa2 from chun you should parry the last hit and do low mp super.

dont do random special moves.

learn to kara throw. elena should be abusing it.

thanks. some of those things I’m usually not as awful at (most of my matches I don’t throw away my meter like an idiot) but playing against a couple characters makes me do a lot of stupid stuff. like those full screen random EXs, I don’t know why my brain thought that was okay. trying to get in close, I guess.

yeah I figured I should learn to kara throw. that’s one of Elena’s primary things, right?

I just recently learned about parrying the last hit of Chun’s super. sounds like that’s something I just need to be able to do in that matchup.

if youre wasting meter to get close, then once you do get close your pretty useless without meter anyways. so youre just shooting yourself in the foot.

every character should parry the last hit of chun except Q. otherwise youre just missing out on free damage.

yep, elenas kara throw is what she bases her whole game around.

cool thanks again. now I’ve got a list of things to work on.

Fight him, THEN talk shit.

you’re doing too much shit igloobob. do less.
aside from just moving. just do less.

also do not just walk backwards out of chun lis low forward range. against an actually good player that’s just handing your ass to them.

also. do not be afraid to throw out a reversal type special on wakeup. late in a game, low on life, everyone expects that kind of stuff. that is the worst time to do it. but when you have plenty of life and the meter to do it, if you’re in some trouble, you should absolutely consider letting it rip.

thanks. yeah that makes sense.

I’d say my basic gameplan is “make them block with standing roundhouse and occasional mixups and then abuse them with throws” but a lot of times it just ends up with me doing a lot of stuff and always hitting buttons.

as far as wakeup reversals go, I think I always do them at awful times. at low health, or when I just gave up a couple throws in the corner. they see that shit coming from a mile away.

also I have a lot of problems using my super effectively. against bad players who do not block I can just throw out cr mp and then confirm. but a lot of decent people just block, or they parry the mp. which ends up happening a lot, since I’m throwing out so many standing roundhouses. even if they predict a standing roundhouse and are wrong, they’re still right since they can parry it high. which for a while lead to me throwing out crouching short and then just doing super. that feels pretty tough to confirm so I’d just do it. which strikes me as not the way I want to approach things. “hope they’re not blocking down!”

I can jump in with roundhouse and then confirm off that I guess. a lot of dudes seem to eat those jump ins. but that never works with anyone I play offline so I just don’t bother. I don’t wanna do stuff that wouldn’t work with real people.

man there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement. what you guys said was helpful and of course I’ve got a couple things in mind too like I described. I’ve got some work to do for sure.

dont do random cr lk super. unless you see them whiff a throw or you parry something, but in that case might as well do cr mp super.

yeah that’s what I was thinking. even if it does work occasionally it seems like a shitty way to approach the game. cross your fingers and hope, and if you’re wrong you wasted a bar of meter and are getting punished. I recognized it as one of my worse ideas almost immediately.

the thought process that leads to it is pretty alluring: “this guy wake up guess parried up the last two times, this time I will just hit him low and then super and he will feel SO DUMB” but yeah I realize it’s not a bright decision.

It’s that time again =D Another one of my scrub ranked match of the week. This time, it’s against the current #9 Oro on PSN, though he was #10 when I saved this.

Also looking for some 3SO FT5s to upload on my Youtube. Whether they end up scrubby or you body me 5-0, I’ll still upload it.

this is perfect advice. you were just trying too much. the wake up EXes and such are risky. but I would not listen to Ryan. about too many EXes, other than the wake up ones, your other EX moves were great and you still have meter. obviously, you can work on your kara throws, but that will come with practice.

you seemed to be trying to hard just to finish him. hey , we all have been there in those situations. next time, play calmer and strike at the opportunity, don’t just hope for one.
