So, I asked my friend if he wanted to join me Wednesday for the meet up at Hastings. He got way to excited and said yes. Then he proceed to ask his girlfriend (my sister) if she wanted to go. She said yes. Then my sister asked my girlfriend if she wanted to go. She said yes.
I suppose that means I’m bringing two confirmed players and two possible players. Oh, and I’m bringing my 19" monitor, Xbox 360, MK9, BB:CS, MvC3, and AE.
Oh yeah, isn’t Hastings at 1245 N Germantown Parkway?
That is correct, sir. Hope to see you there. I’ll be the asian guy in the dark green military-style hat complaining to some fratboy that Wolverine is easy mode in Marvel. Just say you are from SRK.
Also, I think this week may be a ranbat week. I’m sure Squabbler will confirm. So don’t be surprised if we run a Marvel or SF ranbat.
Jason - I can ask but I can’t guarantee anything. There is a lot of transition going on at work right now and they need me here. I will ask today though and let you know.
Sounds awesome dude. I can’t wait until then. Its been years since I’ve hit up some serious local play. I plan on attending EVO next year, so I figured I better get to practicing ASAP.
Meanwhile:
Haggar’s Lariat assisst doesn’t cause hard knockdown anymore.
Sentinel no longer has otg rocket punch > HSF after his bnb air combo, they now flip out before the drones hit (TBC)
Doom
Dooms j.H laser is faster
Faster cr.L (TBC)
Launcher appears to be safer on block (TBC)
Overall, Doom’s projectiles appear to be faster now. (TBC)
Doom’s forward throw causes a hard knockdown now. (TBC)
Air S moves faster vertically (TBC)
Air S causes groundbounce on juggle (TBC)
This was a much needed change though. That buster was what made his combos ridiculously long and damaging. He has enough mixup potential to hit you twice. No need for a touch of death from a fast character.
Zero can only touch of death characters with 850k or less, it costs two meters and requires ridiculous execution. Also, keep in mind that when he’s making you ride the lightning, he’s not building meter.
Well, I mean technically Zero can kill any character in the game with one combo, but it’s so meter and execution heavy does it really even matter? I won’t be able to sit there and Raikosen loop more than one or two meters worth. I just don’t have consistency like that.
If you think those nerfs are gonna keep people from losing to Wolverine than I think you’re mistaken. Dude was a good character without the brainless bull so if anything, he may end up worse now that people actuaclly have to think with him. The same thing goes for Phoenix. Knowing what I know about her, most tournament players hadn’t tapped into her real potential either.
Yes, it does matter. Last night, I played a long set with this guy (one of the top Blazblue players, and an insane Marvel player) who uses Chris/Zero/Dante, and his Zero was getting ridiculous damage from any hit. The team has real synergy, allowing for touch of death combos from pretty much anything.
Playing that set also made me realize how strong (or broken) Dante really is. Hit stun doesn’t apply to his combos. His st.L is too strong. Hammer is completely abusable with no repercussions (invincible, +14 on block, very little recovery). j.H is too ambiguous with crossups. Guaranteed, inescapable blockstrings that have decent chip and are safe. j.S continues combos that it otherwise shouldn’t.
You have about all the local attendance you are going to get. It’s all about having a good rapport with other tourney organizers, players, etc. Of course my experience is mostly with the Tekken/Soul Calibur communities and they are smaller/more tightly knit.
Unless I’m missing something, wasn’t ECTS tourney announced originally in February? And an Evo Qualifier? And was a “modern” tournament? You have to understand only having an SBO qualifier for a game that like 10 people care about in the US isn’t going to bring the numbers alone.
What are you considering ridiculous damage? 900k? 1mil? Touch of death? Zero can easily do 650k or more in any combo so long as you don’t waste scaling on light attacks and standing c and multiple hits on shippuga.
Let’s look at your character for a moment. Your standard BnB does well over a million damage for one meter and an OTG. He’s got several frame trap setups which lead to touch of death combos. Hitboxes which are just as jacked up as zero’s but at least zero is curled up into a ball swinging his sword around his body, hulk just hits you with his balls.
Removing the hard knock down from lv3 buster only removes the ability to combo from it from full screen in A ground to ground/air situation. It also prevents me from finishing a combo with buster - L hienkyaku - rekkoha which ends up putting more emphasis on tightening the execution on the lightning loop and getting timing/elevation for startup vs specific characters.
Basically it’s forcing me to play zero in a much more broken way.
