man, i was going to just troll and reply with #team3D im moto, but I actually recognize your forum name from back then. that was the golden age.

Do you know Brian “ReSe Tactics” Peck?

I’m not trying to get anything out of fighting games man… I just enjoy playing them and enjoy watching top players play, nothing more then that. My days of playing shit for money is long gone but I still enjoy the competition. By the way, ‘e-sports’ is what killed the game I played with CGS.

Fried Orca

Also, I’ll be up for a fight night there if enough other people will be, too. Need to work on my bad matchups in AE and ST up there.

OMG that was hilarious!! We were telling him about the mountains and that he needs to come to Knoxville so we can take him to the Smokies and he said real mountains and I said yes and he said like you see on TV and I said yes, so then Josh starts telling him about all of the animals that you can see (bears, deer, etc). Well we pull up in the driveway at my father in laws house and he was like I don’t know if I want to get out of the car with all of these animals here in TN. I laughed so hard I almost had tears. I did explain that there probably were not any bears in Nashville. Even though we did have a big one on the UT campus that they caught about a week or so ago. We had a blast with him and he is one of the nicest guys in the community. He shared a lot of stuff with Josh and I about the fgc and the truth about rumors and different situations, etc which obviously I will not repeat since they aren’t my stories to tell. It is always fun to see someone experience things for the first time though and especially someone from up north who has lived in the city their whole life. I look forward to him coming back so we can take him to the mountains and I promise I will take video.

Edit: He also learned that not all Southerners are redneck uneducated idiots with no teeth and that most of us don’t have horrible accents and say hey y’allllllll and that we are all “normal” (that one might be debatable though).

Neoblood: I still want to do more tournaments, I just think that it clearly shows the “expectations” of how people believe a tournament is supposed to be.

For example: Stream guys watching want to watch more and more matches.

Well, those matches end up being the reason why some people at tournaments end up waiting 12 hours for brackets to end. Being at home they don’t realize this. If they actually WENT to a tournament they may not feel the same way if they were accidentally “lost” in the bracket and XXX-Player was being catered to. We didn’t even have a stream planned for this event period because of lack of internet in the mall until I decided to change the venue back to the arcade last minute…so the stream we had for MK was a bonus, the only reason we did NOT have a stream for UMVC3 and AE was because of latency on the setup. My decision. I prefer the players having a good non laggy setup so they can play their best vs a bunch of guys at home watching for free talking crap.

Lack of “top” players at this tournament.

Not every single top player jumps up at the chance to go to every tournament. The “norm” nowadays is to get players plane tickets and possibly hotel/rides PAID for with sponsorship for teams possibly paying for other players. We don’t contact or go out of our way to do that. That’s a completely new idea that started with Street Fighter IV sans Japanese players coming to the US a few years back (in order to get them here) Because of that, our numbers are affected. I mean, before Street Fighter IV we had all the top players coming to MWC on a regular basis it only recently changed because of the “expectations” that have come to light.

Lack of “hype” or advertising in general.

There was a trailer, there were flyers, there were announcements; Richard and Chris Brown were Twittering and getting the word out, but the numbers were LESS than last year by a good 30 players…there was a great lack of response from ANY of the outlets giving us coverage. I am sure everyone knows I am the guy running the tournament, but we all have work stuff going on (not to mention moving a freaking arcade in less than 30 days and MWC a week before) and unless we had more time to look for sponsorship, etc, let alone me having a baby, it’s actually something that would have needed a LOT more time spent on but this isn’t for lack of trying, Dimo, Doromac, Chris, Richard, Brandon, they did a lot of legwork (even on MK) but a lot of people cancelled at the last minute.

As always, the tournament ran smooth without hiccups and matches were over fast. That meant more casuals, more eating, more gaming, etc. We aren’t TRYING to be CEO/FInal Round/EVO, we’re merely a stopover. I think our numbers were actually around what PowerUp had on some of their tournaments (from what Wolfkrone was saying)

Also, and this is important…this tournament was arcade based for many years. We want to KEEP some type of arcade games in the tournament regardless and a lot of players do not seem to understand this either. The whole fighting game was based on arcade (why do you think I opened one in the first place) and we’ll still keep doing them as long as we can.

Now to answer questions about future tournaments:

The next “major” tournament I do will have crazy amounts of cash added to it to entice players to come. We don’t mind doing that, but many players feel that it doesn’t make sense for all the preferential treatment at other tournaments for the “top” players.

We will continue to run them the best way possible and as efficient as we can, but seriously, the shittalk for lack of stream is about nothing by people who don’t have a clue what they are talking about. The staff busted their ass getting that place setup and running things smoothly and I can tell you the majority of people had a GREAT time sans a handful of players who aren’t 100% clear on what happens when you have the majority of players from one state in a losers bracket and are upset that some of them had to fight each other.

But yes, stay tuned for the normal tournaments and a much larger scaled one once we decide on amount of $$$ for pot (will be UMVC3, AE, KOF, MK) and venue.

We will probably ask someone to stream this well beforehand but again, internet for venue is a killer sometimes…

I had an amazing time at MWC, despite the fact that there wasn’t many people there today, it’s the best experience I’ve ever had at a tournament.

I’ve only been to four, but you guys are undoubtably the nicest people I’ve met in a offline scene. Never have I been to a tournament where EVERY person comes up to you and introduces themselves to you and gets to know you a little better.

If it wasn’t so far away, I’d try to come out for every gathering I could, but I just simply can’t right now.

Hopefully I’ll get to play you all again, and I look forward to my next trip out there.

lol!!! i’m gonna take your advice mike, it aint even worth giving a scrub any kind of attention they seek. he must not know tn.

lee, training or not, zero is still gay and so is vergil lol

Every new TN thread requires at least 1 blown out of proportion internet drama, we get bored, all we got is trees and hills.

Also I really hope Marvel 3 goes the way of Marvel 2 in that Zero, Dante, Vergil becomes the only viable team and everyone who thought otherwise will be considered a naive fool!

I also want to be that hipster guy who picked characters before it was cool…

@ w00tsick: ya I’m starting to see that… lol. Guess I can’t blame any of you for that cause it’s boring as hell out here.

@ DGA Gdlk: ya that sounds a lot like what you were saying that night at Sean’s crib… when I was doing nothing but complimenting your game and giving you good matches lol.

@DreamTR: never meant any disrespect to you as an organizer, I know first hand how much work goes into running events and from what I see from most posts it sounds like your events are exceptional. Hopefully you continue to do it and do it well.

Sara brought up this which brings back some memories but if you check it out you can see the long long long list of killers that have been to MWC in the past 20 years…

I see where they are coming from, those that can’t be there still want to watch it.

They seem to think it’s necessary, but whatever.

When I was at the SBO qual, not only that small tourney, but I could tell the SFIV/MvC3 stuff was running well.

I need to pick up a new game that actually gets played at tournaments. :frowning:

Because fuck geometry

Good job with MWC guys. Sucks ass I couldn’t be there - I’ll make it up, promise.

I remember getting bodied by Team3D in 2004 (? I think it was) - real talk lol … I never felt so shitty at CS in my entire life. I remember teamRival as well. I played on wtx (wetworx) in cal-i, p, and m but never in CPL … Fun times, fun times.

Johnny beat you to it …

Squab: We missed you guys! You’re not alone…about 40 people couldn’t make it this weekend unfortunately…

And so begins the move…and just found out realistic reopening date for Game Galaxy Nashville is Aug 1. Fight Night alternate location info coming soon…

That is the #1 complaint I have about streams is that it is “expected” to be free and the bottom line is that it would have affected gameplay for the competitors. We went from no stream to stream to no stream to stream to “I give up” because we’re in the middle of a tournament. The fact of the matter is the pure anger people have towards me for this stream thing makes me NEVER want to have one and just pull the $3000 tournament we’re eventually going to have with just taped games again…

Neoblood knows what I am talking about when I say the person that originally was supposed to stream in the first place and who OWES me a stream would have been there then the marketing would have take care of itself but two years straight of getting screwed on that is pretty wtf…
