LOL… man you dudes are getting butt hurt over the stupidest shit.
First of all… let me go back to my original statement that got someone all riled up over nothing. I said I would like to go to a major to experience what it is like to go to a professional tournament. Seeing how MWC did not have many top players, or streams, or multiple day tournies, I stated that this would not be worth my time. This is in no way a slight to the tournament being run or the players there. The point being, I don’t want to drive to Nashville to play or see people that I can play or see at a local friends house. You can take that to mean whatever the hell you want it to mean, but it no way is a assumption of my skill level over anyone locally or sponsored.
Now, secondly… I wouldn’t expect anyone here to know my name cause I don’t walk into gaming sessions saying “I’m Matthew Cheng and I’m going to whoop your ass.” On the contrary, I hardly ever ask someone their name or who they are, because that doesn’t mean shit to me when I’m going to someone’s house to play casuals… I’m there to have fun, period. Now with that being said, I never once claimed to “know” Majin, Lil Majin or whoever the hell else goes to Big Sean’s house, but if you ask Sean he will 100% know who the brothers Matthew and Andrew are because we’ve been over there plenty of times to play and smoke with him. Usually when I go to Sean’s, it’s because someone like Chris Hernandez, Brandon Jones or Jay(BakedNinja) invited me over there and told me that Sean was hosting. As someone who loves playing Marvel, these guys know to tell me to come because a) I’ll be another guy to play with and b) I always come with dank… and of course those dudes like smoking. I’ve been over there quite a few times when Big Sean was hosting and never once did I ask anyone who they were or did they ask me. That’s not why I was there, I was there to play some Marvel… and I did. Played some dude with a nice Iron Man who kept screaming out “TECHNOLOGY” when he landed a hit. He won more games then I did but I got me a couple of W’s and it was a fun game, nothing more then that.
As far as DGA GDLK Rushdown is concerned… the only reason I know who the guy is, is because his name was printed on his stick big as hell. You can ask Sean about that night because he remembers it and he jokes about that shit every time he sees me… because of how stupid a situation it was. That night, Sean called up Brandon and Chris told them to come through because someone was coming over that “ONLY PLAYS MARVEL”, apparently this was GDLK. Knowing I love Marvel, the told me to come to, which I did and I brought my stick with me to get in a couple games. First, GDLK played Toastman(can never remember his real name) and he bodied him left right and center. After about 5 games of them playing, Toastman passed me the stick and we played a nice little set. Keep in mind, I’m here to have fun… I didn’t bring money, I wasn’t looking for no money matches, I was just there because I was told someone was coming that loves to play Marvel. We played a few games and I’m pretty sure he beat me the first two… with some nice combos and smart play. I was nothing but complementary to the dude, saying good shit, nice cross ups, etc. Of course… it’s Marvel, so shit changes in a fuckin instant… and wouldn’t you know it, I started to win. Now my team is nothing special… Nemesis, Hulk, Sentinel… BNB’s all damn day, however Mr. GDLK clearly didn’t like what I was doing and he kept saying so to Toastman. “Bitch ass ABC combos…” “Scrub ass hulk combos” “weak ass combos just do the same shit all day.” I didn’t say a word to him… but I kept winning. After the score was 6-4 in my favor, I just got tired of it and put the sticks down. I was there to smoke with some homies and play some Marvel but I heard nothing but shit talking all day… and no not that same ol friendly banter you kick back and forth… but demonstrative shit about how I’m not on his level even though I kept winning. After I put the sticks down, I told him straight up… “you’re a better player then me and far more technical… but this is Marvel and my team has fuckin super armor it’s not a big deal if I beat you.” Of course he didn’t like that, and he wasted the next five minutes asking me for a money match and saying he would body me if there was money on the line and so on and so forth. You can call me a bitch or w/e but like I said, I was there to smoke and play Marvel with the homies. That story comes up every damn time I go to Sean’s house… because everyone that was up there realized how stupid he was being over a game when no one else was talking shit but him.
Lastly… and I do mean lastly, I never claimed to have made money in the FGC or at any tournaments in Tennessee. I’ve lived in Memphis since 2006 but before that I lived in California. I spent 6 years playing Counterstrike, Dota and Quake at the professional level and made a damn good amount of money doing so while traveling all over the US. Now, I’m not saying this to try and act like I’m the shit or saying I could be good at fighting games because of it… I’m just saying it for the pure experience. I’ve had the opportunities to play against and watch some of the best gamers in their respective games from all over the world. That’s the experience I want, that’s the type of tournament I want to go to as my FIRST major. I don’t want to drive to a tournament where apparently… everyone who is there are the same people who go to Big Sean’s when he hosts.
Bottom line is, you guys all took this shit way out of fuckin proportion. I’m not some fraud walking around Memphis saying I can body kids… I’m not some dude walking around Memphis claiming to be a professional or some amazing gamer and then just sit behind my computer screen. I’m a 27 year old dude who spent years playing video games professionally and made enough money to help buy my own car and put myself through the U of M. Now I have a job, and I’m looking for another… but I still enjoy playing games and watching them be played at the HIGHEST level… that’s all there is to it. You all can hate on me or whatever cause it don’t mean a damn thing to me… it’s a video game and as far as I’m concerned it’s squashed.
