Television General Discussion

THE STRAIN! I haven’t actually mentioned the TnA value here, if I recall… F’s partner (*which he apparently had an affair with at one point?) is HOTTTT. There was a few good glimpses of her ass in the tight pants in episode 4.

Interesting that “Ansel” or whatever his name was–he didn’t appear to have the “stinger” like the little girl and that pilot. This guy’s neck area seemed normal, and he still had some slight measure of control over himself…so already it looks like there are varying levels of how much humanity/control is lost, I suppose? Or…perhaps he’s still in a transitional phase? He still knew enough to chain himself up in that outhouse and tell his wife to stay away from there.

How did I not know the new season of Falling Skies started in June? Possibly b/c I finally tired of Law & Order reruns and frankly there’s very little reason to watch TNT other than that - thus I missed the promos for Falling Skies.

They’re already 7-8 episodes deep.

I’m going to give The Strain one more episode. It’s getting too dumb for me now. So we have an old guy who knows all about what these creatures are and at least their base level intentions, yet with all his conversations with the two chuckle heads from the cdc before this episode, he didnt bother to at once just finally be like, lemme stop teasing you and show you what it is i’m talking about, and what youre dealing with. What pissed me off the most this episode though was the women. HERE WE GO AGAIN. More stupid fucking women on tv and in movies, and for what. I mean, at least give the women a reason to be irrational. Oh you dont wanna continue on because you have to kill people??? BITCH, YOU JUST SAW THE ANATOMY OF THIS THING, AND HIM PULL A 6 FOOT GOD DAMN FUCKING STINGER FROM ITS BODY, OUT OF ITS MOUTH. THE HUMAN BIOLOGY IS NO MORE. THERE IS NO MORE GOD DAMN FUCKING HUMAN!!!

Its like, what kind of logic. You are a fucking scientist. How do you expect to turn these monsters back into humans? You gonna call Dr Strange to come do some magic that will make them regrow their genitals, barf out a stinger the length of their body, rewire their brains, and rearrange all their organs again. If she quit because of denial of what was happening, fine. I can understand that, but to quit because youre killing “people” even after knowing the human body just becomes a host, and is essentially no longer, is crazy. If they wrote the creatures to always maintain their humanity, and even still look normal, but have new biological urges and necessities, that would be one thing, but clearly everyone of these fucking things you have encountered, its intention is to kill you and turn you.

Then we have the dumbest wife of the century who fed her neighbor to her husband because he hit their dog once. You know, the dog thats dead now because your monster husband ripped its throat and guts out. So whats the plan here? To keep daddy in a shed and feed him people you temporarily do not like, and pray to your god in hopes he magically gets cured, even though by the time she comes back to check on him, he should have a 6 foot long stinger coming out of his mouth, and strength enough to rip away from whatever is holding him down.

Its not a feminist issue for me, but writers need to stop with their hatred for women in hollywood, and write some decent female roles that do not end up in the shit we just got from the women in the recent episode of The Strain. Like for me, id rather write strong ideal women in my tv shows and movies then the same type of bitches i cant stand, doing the dumb shit i hate. Its like a group of dorks just get together to write bad roles for women all the time in order to get back at them. But for the viewer, at least any viewer with some type of intelligence, it just makes me want to stab my eyeballs and ear drums with a sharpened pencil everytime i have to sit through that poorly written nonsense.

If The Strains weakness of a possible lack of monsters outside of these worm-vampires is going to be balanced out by having a bunch of stupid ass humans running around making illogical and irrational decisions for seasons to come, in order for the show to exist, and to drag out the plot, then i’ll gladly bail the fuck out now, and just watch reruns of shows i like until the fall season starts.

I mean, the bitch said, “I’d rather die from this epidemic then kill people”. YOU WOULD RATHER HAVE A MONSTER TURN YOU INTO A MONSTER, THEN KILL MONSTERS. I hope her character dies before i have to bail on this series, like gets her head smashed to bits like that one dude, but at least she is gone for now, and we have the first introduction of the old man and the cdc, so we can progress this story further. The dumb house mom has to go too, and since she likes to kill innocent people, her kids should get turned or die too as a result of her selfishness and stupidity. That will send a nice clear message for characters like that for the remainder of this shows exitence. All stupid and useless people go bye bye, and being stupid will also hurt those around you.

Extreme solutions and rage fits aside, you make a decent point. I enjoy the crazy creatures and grossness of it all, but I do hate how they’re heavily relying on traditional horror tropes in a television show. In a movie where it is a shorter experience it’s bearable, but doing it an episodic format is worse (especially when it’s really long and drawn-out).

I don’t see it as bad writing for females, but as bland writing in general. These characters’ lack of logical decision-making skills is ridiculous in terms of what we know about their personal backgrounds. I’m hoping the writers are still trying to get a feel for them, and will put them in the position of being stronger/smarter into the later episodes.

I do see some evidence of that in Gus. He’s not just a shit-talking thuggish asshole he was in pilot, but someone who’s trying to do some good under fucked-up circumstances. I wanna see more of that character growth, but not everyone needs to make some obvious mistakes to make some decent choices later-on.

I’m tuning-in for the monsters and potential, but give me enough bullshit and I’ll walk…

Nah, it actually seems like a realistic reaction to me… 8 or 9 times out of 10, I’d expect the women to have a problem with the scenario of needing to kill people for the greater good, even if it’s fairly obvious these aren’t really “people” anymore… and that’s not necessarily to say my usual, occasionally mean-spirited ranting about women in general. They do indeed tend to think of things primarily from a more emotional perspective, as opposed to pure, cold logic. This can even be the case with women that have made a career out of some science-related field…of course it’s not 100% of the time, obviously… but that tends to be the case with them, generally speaking. Men on the other hand, are more inclined to do what needs to be done, even if you’re getting into morally questionable territory. (*and it’s one of the reasons men and women will just never see perfectly eye-to-eye on certain things) If the same scenario happened 1000 times with different characters, I’d expect the same result to happen most of the time.

It’s kind of like this with all kinds of things—like if someone in a working environment gets all offended by a remark that most people would find funny or just a tame little witty response…and the person is offended enough to go tell HR because they’ve already disliked the person ever since day 1…which gender do you really think is most likely the easily offended, bitter little “tattle-tale” in this example? If this scenario were observed on 1000 occasions at various places of employment… 99% of the time, most people know the deal here.

More back on the point-- it seems like a necessary thing for the sake of story anyway… shouldn’t there be conflict within a small group of characters when you have them face a moral dilemma about what needs to be done? It would’ve been a bit more stale if everyone’s just fine with it… there always has to be the 1 or 2 characters that want to take that “but we’re killing them!” side… it could also be because she or any other character like her might think they can still be saved somehow in the near future, and we just haven’t figured out a cure yet. If I recall, Herschel was like that a few seasons ago in Walking Dead-- he believed this was just like a “sickness” that could one day be treated and/or cured…he didn’t want to give up on them.

All of that… and really only in fiction.
Not so much in reality; this is an outdated view of things(from the 50’s, from how it’s coming off) that persists in fiction because people don’t like how things, and themselves, have changed.

I’m not saying it’s that cut and dry, but it ISN’T like that anymore, and hasn’t been for decades.
Only in fantasies is it accurate now.

She’s actually the least of my argument, her point-of-view is somewhat within reason. But everything else including the wife’s ignorance and old man’s problem with explaining things is still a major problem.

I’m just saying the logic and motivations for each character’s actions should be more relatable. That may sound weird considering the crazy scenario, but the best shows are able to find a way to project the audience into the wildest scenarios along the their reasonable ideas of what to do in said situations.

So far Eph (never get used to saying that), Jim, and Gus represent that more anyone. Nora and the old man are second in perspective to me.

Watched the latest ANW. What the fuck ANW? Who’s bright idea was the Doorknob Arch? You took a Stage 3 Obstacle and made it 20x harder and put it in a City Final?! That’s…just mean.

Arrested Development is coming back to Netflicks http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/08/netflix-says-new-season-of-arrested-development-is.html

I’m praying they sort out the logistics properly this time and have a proper reunion and a script that actually feels like an Arrested Development script

word. give me a regular AD season where they interact… and bring back roger sterling

So new episode of strain. We immediately started off with another woman being an idiot. So you see dude with a 2 foot tentacle coming out of his mouth, killing the doctor, and you just sit there and stare, then eventually run, hurt yourself, and you call some manager or something to say the concert is off, and that gabe “hurt someone”. CALL THE GOD DAMN COPS, THAT NIGGA IS A MONSTER.

So after that im thinking to myself the whole time, yeah, i gotta stop watching the show. The episode moves on, and its straight. They wrapped up some loose ends with christian house mom of the year from the last episode, and it seems the last of the 4 victims is finally turning. Rat man also found a vamp nest in the sewer, so we’ll see how that develops, but overall, im still just not interested in the show anymore.

Currently the show is just gross and stupid. Like okay, we get it, every week someone gets mauled, more blood, boring. Like i said earlier, if this is all you got for monsters, and a monster story, this is wack. Im sure rat man will just somehow shrug off that he got chased by monster human beings who burned in sunlight, and that will get extended for like 3 episodes until the old man finds out about the nest. We had a public attack randomly in a nursing home during the day at the end of the episode, that im sure will get shrugged off somehow.

The show is just stupid, but i know it has an audience, and for us supernatural geeks, we try to watch everything we can, but i just get nothing from this show at all, and it doesnt appear to be going anywhere. LOL at twitter loving regina arnold running away in the beginning, because see, black folks gtfo when they are in danger, and i guess they also dont call the cops, even if they saw a fucking monster eating someone. That shit was poorly written garbage, and she didnt immediately run, she stood there and stared at him until he dragged shorty off by his tongue, then she ran away.

The only thing interesting right now in the strain is the master, but hes just an overpowered monster right now, so you cant even love the bad guy if you wanted to, since you cannot identify with it. I dont see how an old man with a sword and a nail gun plans to take on something that picked up a 500 pound coffin and ran with it faster then they could pick up on the security cam before slowing it down to see just a blur of something. The old man doesnt seem to particularly use any special smarts about himself in hunting either. He just takes his sword and nail gun, and goes to fighting. LOL WUT.

This show is so stupid. I seriously contemplate writing myself, because if you can write this garbage and get a tv show out of it, i’m clearly missing out on free money.

Masterchef top 10: was that some odd editing or do kids really play American football without helmets?

Insane challenge, double elimination, it was very close but the right people went home.

Finally got around to watching Dexter and ended up blazing through the entire first season in two days. Gotta say I’m hooked.

I still need to check out Game of Thrones and American Horror Story. I also hear that Arrow is pretty good.

ahh, should we tell him now?

Well, it is our obligation.

Goddamnit, is there some secret joke that I’m missing out on?

It sure as hell isn’t a secret.

show turns shit…soon. I think it turns shit from the season with “travis/colin hanks”.

xpozed :coffee:

That’s being generous. Turns shit long before that.
