King has GS, which the hands lie to you on. Also some characters have throws that don’t show a hand at all, like law.
Man, I’ve been playing Tekken since the first one hit arcades, and that right there is the most helpful thing I’ve ever seen with the game. Very nice.
Dude, that training flash thingy is so awesome. I still suck at breaking throws though. I think I’ll stick to guessing for now and come back to this training later.
I’m too used to Street Fighter and other fighting games where you simply use the only throw input to tech a throw. That’s like in the older King of Fighters, you’d have to tech throws depending on if they’re pressing Forward + Heavy Punch or Forward + Heavy Kick. I’m not hatin’ though, just sayin’.
did you guys know that there are items that can be only unlocked through SC? these items are global as they can be used for all characters.

items with text under the picture instead of a price are the SC only items. man, i really want those katana swords.

The difference between 2d and 3d game throws is that you’re taught to escape throws in 2d fighters after the throw connects because the throws in games like SF3 and IV start in 2 frames. There’s no way you can see and escape a throw in 2 frames. In SF your quickest starting maneuver is your throws at 2 frames which is basically impossible for the human eye to react to. In Tekken your quickest starting maneuver are your 1,2 jabs and they still take 8 frames longer to start up than a SF throw (10 frames). Generally Tekken plays at a slower pace as far as the frames are concerned but since everyone has to play at that speed you are still forced to react fast because you have to account for how many frames your move has in order to beat a 10-14 frame start up move.
Which is why it’s good to know what moves “crush” or beat other moves depending on the height they hit at. Like there are some attacks that are designed to be invincible to high ranged attacks so the frames of a 1,2 jab aren’t killing you forever. Though if the opponent through a mid or low attack your high crush will usually get beat.
So most throws in Tekken start up within the 12-14 frame range which is definitely longer to start up than a 1,2 jab. So your job as a Tekken player is to learn to be able to see 12-14 frames of start up on a throw and then press the correct button. Most SF players are used to looking to tech right as or after a throw connects and that’s too late in Tekken. In Tekken the time to escape is the 10+frames you get longer than SF to escape a throw when they press 1+3 or 2+4 or f,f1+2 or whatever. You can actually see a throw starting up before it touches you in Tekken. In SF there is no way for you to see the start up frames of a throw. Once the person presses LP+LK the start up has basically already ended.
It’s easier to break 1 or 2 throws when you realize that one hand is always lower on the opponent’s body. Like if the opponent is trying to throw you with a left throw (1+3) their left hand is up and their right hand is kinda lagging lower on their body.
I didn’t know that. I don’t have those katana yet. You probably unlock those Scenario Campaign-only items from completing the hidden missions like Nightmare Train.
Man, Nightmare Train is mad hard. On Medium difficulty, it still seems like Hard. You get killed in like four hits. It doesn’t even matter how good you are. Once your partner dies (Alisa will most-likely always die on this mission) and you get cornered by the demons, there’s nothing you can do. I don’t even wanna know how the mission is on Hard. I think it’d only be possible to beat it once the co-op patch is released. That way, you and a friend can both play as Devil Jin, stand back and shoot 1+2 lasers all day and hope to get something accomplished, lol.
ok hey any one from california is anyone playing at FFA and i got a question i got an xbox and i need a stick so where can i get one for cheap ?
I heard you can just knock people off the train for free wins. Not that I’ve played on that level yet.
Your best bet would be eBay. If you want a really cheap but decent stick, I suggest you search for the Hori EX2 for the Xbox 360. I got mine for $20 for the 360. A friend of mine got a PS3 one for $10 off eBay. I know another dude that got a PS3 one for $50 off eBay. So I’m guessing the price would range from around $10-50. Somewhere around there. There are cheaper / lower quality sticks than the Hori EX2 but you shouldn’t even touch those unless you’re willing to mod it immediately.
Hmm, I might try that. I’m sure it won’t be as easy as it sounds though. I use Asuka so maybe I can use her DF+3 to try to knock them off the train. These demons are very powerful for no reason and there’s not that many healing items around. Devil Jin is supposed to be the boss but I’ll be killing waves and waves of demons until I die. I’m like, “Dammit! When the hell is Devil Jin coming?! Fuck it. If the demons are this powerful, Devil Jin would probably own my ass anyway.”
Edit: Nah, I can’t seem to knock the demons off the train. Asuka’s DF+3 doesn’t work, her D+3+4 doesn’t work or even her most powerful launcher, F+2, doesn’t work. The train seems to have an invisible wall that prevents you from knocking them off the train. This train is truly a nightmare!
If anyone is still paying attention to the tournament on tekken.com…the finals, which ends next week, will be…
…wait for it
lol
T5 intro eternally retold
Spoiler
Steve vs. Hwoarang
I can’t put out any real advice since I barely touch Asuka, but handling each demon as they come and then switching to the next one is a big must.
Also, equipment that have elemental attacks (lightning and ice, fire is not as useful) is pretty awesome since once you randomly attack to break guard they stay in place.
When you kill a bunch of the demons, they’ll drop powerups like the bound powerup or the elemental powerup, so kill them and try to reap those. I also just kept at the stage and got the items that dropped from the demons, you’ll eventually get good equipment.
I killed Devil Jin knocking him off, in the train stage you have to raise them up a bit before you knock them off due to the wall.
Not suprising since Hwoarang is the new Eddy and everyone wishes they could be a good Steve player.
All right, great tips man. I’ll take those into consideration. Thanks.
Random question: Does anyone know if the unique weapon attacks would be legal in tournaments? I don’t think they should banned 'cause they all seem to have slow start-up and the damage is incredibly weak. It’d be fun to pull some of these attacks off on your opponent during a tournament. I’m just curious.
Seeing as how P2 can’t even use customs on console, this is a bit premature, until NAMCO PATCHES DAT SHIT
They’d be legal but considering the way customizations work it’s a non issue anyway.
For Nightmare Train I used Alisa. I maxed out Lars health, and spammed Alisa’s b,b,1+2 (rocket punch) from a distance. When Devil Jin came, I knocked him off the train with the gatling gun.
Makes you wonder how did several of these errors and problems get by Namco? I think one contributing factor, Sony wanting a PSP version.
I thought Player 2 could log into their profile and use their own customizable characters. I read that somewhere but I’ve never tried it myself yet.
Interesting. I may try that. How the heck did you max out Lars’ health anyway? Did you obtain like an S-Rank item that gave him +500 health or something?
Oh man, I am not happy with Tekken 6 for some reason.
I platinum’d tekken in just a day and a half and let me tell you my impressions with those days.
I’ve been playing Tekken since I was… around 8.
Memories:
I can still remember the Tekken 3 days, and the Tekken volleyball thingy mode, and awesome Dr. B’s incredibly long combo… Best days indeed.
And then comes in Tekken tag, which was the reason, my brother bought a PS2 on launch.
Tekken Tag was really fun. Fun enough to make literally all my cousins play this game everyday. (at summer break). So there’s always around 5-6 people in the living room playing this game.
Next comes Tekken 4… Hello walls, and wtf roster.
Tekken 4 was alright, but not enough to be fond in your memories. Great Soundtrack and tekken force though.
Next comes Tekken 5. And holy shit, I fucking love this game. So many damn new moves, and the soundtrack is great, customization, etc… (Love the moonlight wilderness sound). But since I’m abroad, the only player I can play Tekken with is my brother. (Damn mexicans here in SoCal are only good at KOF and SF… <_<)
And now we come to Tekken 6.
Since I want to play with more people, I bought Tekken 6. But Netcode sucks cock that I can’t even sidestep or dash to block properly (wtf…).
Low jab pops out after a second you input it. (fucking input lag)
Scenario Campaign - was stupid too. Can you walk any fucking faster when you just want to walk away from a fight? Or do you just want to see Alisa get gang raped by bears…
- We have to wait around winter for the patch to play Scenario online…
I want Offline coop too like T4…
Customization -… less uniqueness, more Pallete swap… Anyone noticed that?
No 2P. customization…? weak …
And don’t get me started with the loading times… (PS3)
But I will give props on Tekken 6 though.
Making the whole 40 character roster, the Motion blur (sexy), Ability to screenshot (PS3), The awesome soundtrack (Electric Fountain ftw.) fucking up the story that I don’t give any damn about the story anymore.
But whatever. I’m enjoying Offline 2P the most anyways, this game is still godlike when it comes to party games and arcade competitiveness.
Arcade is the beast.
