I’d say he’s leaning on bulldog status for BR. Less without taunt. It’s hard to bully Bryan in BR because of jet upper/magic 4/SS~qcb+4/fb+2.
The odd thing though is that the more I think of it, the more I see Bryan as a “player’s” character - e.g. he has the tools, but none of them are cheap. Sure, b+1 has block stun, but it’s not a fast move by any stretch. fb+2 and 4 are fast and launch/float, but they hit high, etc. His sweep isn’t particularly quick either, but he has a ton of low pokes…
…in summary: using Bryan doesn’t equate to an auto win. But in the right hands, he’s a monster.
I can’t remember how that works in SC now but with Paul’s d+4 it only trips as an up close “clean hit”. If it’s not they can block the rest and punish. So it’s a good low, especially at the wall, but it’s not godlike.
Paul’s other strength is his punishment. He has two 12 frame mids that do good damage, one that knocks down and one that gives advantage.
You can play a basic paul at high level. backdash, throw out some pokes, safe d/f+2 that launches, punish mistakes. you can go far. you’ll be hella manly too.
But for the new characters, from best to worst, tier-wise, isn’t it

bryan isn’t anywhere close to top tier, and way too many scrubs use him. i’ve sidewalked his b+1 all the way to his back countless times. his weakness is tracking, so i guess most of you think he’s top tier cuz u don’t know how to step properly, scrubs.
on Bryan: b+1 doesn’t have poor tracking, it just has weird tracking. Depending on when you try to SS it (during windup or past the apex), its tracking changes. You can sidewalk it depending on your char (a skinny would have no problems), but a good Bryan wouldn’t telegraph that move anyway.
