Tekken 2: Hollywood Still Doesn't Get It - The Movie

So you think these movies break even or turn a profit? Or maybe they count on non-fans to watch them?

They have to, or at least give a very strong impression they will. Hollywood is notoriously risk-averse.

according to Hollywood, no movies actually make profits:

I was referring more to the fact that Namco would care less about who makes a Tekken movie, so long as they get paid.

Fanmade films vary in quality as well. Joey and Chris already had a track record working in the industry, they had producers who know how to approach companies like Capcom and make sure they get a chance to sit in front of the right people who ultimately make the call. It wasn’t easy equiring the rights to SF to create Legacy, Capcom weren’t happy at all with how Legend of Chun Li turned out, it had tarnished to franchise, and with the success of SF4 Capcom they weren’t willing to let another live action adaptation ruin everything.

When Joey met with Capcom apparently they were blown away by his passion and knowledge of SF lore, you can’t beat a true fan’s passion! Joey and Jon Foo were already well known, Joey had already done Bourne Ultimatum, and Jon had already done Ong Bak so this was top of the food chain type credentials. I believe at this time Patrick had already written the Ryu theme so when they heard that they were left very impressed. This is much different to a movie studio coming to Capcom and saying we want to make an SF movie, we have a concept, how much for the rights? What’s in it for you? X, Y and Z. Okay deal, good bye.

Even with Joey convincing them to sell him the rights, Capcom wanted to distance themselves so Joey/Chris and producers had to fund the entire project themselves. I think this is the biggest hurdle most fan made adaptation have, the budget has a huge effect on quality of the finished product, and it is very easy to piss away. With a team of people who all have worked on feature films they were able to use the budget wisely and get the most out of it, short cuts had to be taken and people had to learn new skills on the job.

Movies make profits. There’s a reason a lot of Hollywood execs get filthy rich doing absolutely nothing.

I hope this movie is rated R, so that there will be plenty of sex.

Correction. The only thing that can save this movie is Alex and Roger having sex. It is crossbreeding for the sequel.

No, no: Steve and Roger’s mom. Knockin’ gloves.

lies the only thing that can save this is this guy

Oh I know that. But when you look at the list of lawsuits and shit. Claiming Lord of the Rings lost money, and shit like that.

It’s funny how many lawsuits ended the moment people wanted to start looking at the books. Here’s some money. Fuck off. Next bubble waiting to burst, right after student debt. Bollywood will sweatshop that shit soon!

The live action Tekken movie wasn’t great but it was better than the anime and the CGI movie. The CGI movie was atrocious. The worse thing about the CGI movie was how they talked up how they’d do Tekken right after the live action film…they failed. They failed horribly.

I give the CGI movie a pass because of that final, but utterly pointless fight.

The whole movie should’ve been that instead of whats-her-name running around boring us to death

Oh god no…

Blood Vengeance already gave people the template to a successful Tekken movie.

It just has to be two hours of this

I swear I am one of the few who liked the animated film.

Mostly because Alex GGPO’s Anna who I despise, so there is that.

I’m still waiting for the romantic comedy about Lili trying to get with Asuka.

Cashing in on dat T7 hype

Man moist made.

The only bad thing about BR was DJ and D fighting each other, the 3 way mishima fight was in a class all of its own. Now look at the live action, first of all we got this sequel bullshit which is only tied to tekken through character names and will be undoubtedly be absolutely fucking terrible. Then we had the first movie that failed on such speculator levels it was made as a reminder that the awesome Gary Daniels is still alive, and that Tagawa will still suck dick for money. Fucking shocking.

Only problem with a Tekken movie is trying to incorporate the batshit crazy plot going on in T6 into a movie. As fans we spend enough time in the game to understand what’s going on with everybody. Trying to cram that in a 2 hour movie and things are going to turn shitty regardless of what happens.

Although, if they took it seriously and started with Tekken 1, they could make a pretty boss movie that does start with Heihachi throwing his son into a volcano. Storywise Tekken is kind of awesome because even the most intense stuff is kind of goofy. I personally love that the mishimas settle things by throwing each other off of things. Whether or not you can translate this well to a movie is a different matter (although Kazuya throwing Heihachi off a cliff is a boss ending regardless). The other jokey stuff you can do because its a game is a different matter. The one dude bringing up Roger and Alex is kind of a retard. Why would you go there when you have Jack? Its w/e.

TL;DR: FUCK A JIN JUST MAKE TEKKEN 1 INTO A MOVIE.

Edit: Before anybody gives me any shit, Enter the Dragon & Bloodsport are goofy ass movies that are fucking bad ass. Shit, 98% of Martial Arts movies are all a little bit goofy. Just stay true to the goofyness, don’t undermine it with the script, givei t some good production value, hire decent actors and make sure the fight scenes are great. I mean, the Mortal Kombat movie is goofier than shit. You gonna tell me this dude punch some fucker with 4 arms in the balls? GTFO. But that movie is godlike…mostly because of:

@goodm0urning because that’s his jam.

The first movie was a disaster it meant they had a free pass to do a reboot, I don’t know why they felt the first movie deserved a sequel.
