Does anyone play TF2 on XBL? I’ve officially taken up the title of best Scout on there and have yet to be contested.

Both Episode 1 and 2 were pretty fun. I couldn’t get through Half Life 2 (2 boring!), but I played through both the episodes.’

Is there a TF2 PC group?

There’s an SRK group. I added BKB and friend. Da Desi Canadian, link me to your Steam page so I can add you if you want.

I’ve been slacking on the TF2 front. Call of Duty 4 is too good. :-/

How can you call Half Life 2 boring? It was one of the best games I’ve ever played, if not THE best.

So, I can only play tf2 for like 20 minutes for it freezes on me and closes…

=\

Dude that’s called a lack of patience. If you couldn’t get to the rebel battle in City 17’s streets then you suck. I bet you got ADD or something. Game more than picks up after Ravenholm.

Bought Orange Box for $50

Played and enjoy finishing Episode 2 and Portal…did not enjoy Team Fortress 2 at all.

Sold Orange Box for $45

IMO, Half Life is mainly for the PC. the controls were moderately difficult for me to use while shooting enemies. I seriously had to stand still, aim, and shoot. In the previous series on PC, I had no problem shooting or switching weapons.

I’ll wait to upgrade my computer to play Episode 3.

No, it’s called personal opinion. I reached til the point where you get the dune buggy and you’re driving down the ant lion coast. My save file got deleted at that point, and I just never felt it worth the effort to continue playing (using cheats I coud just start from that level). I was already bored at that point.

Call of Duty 4 is much more my preference for single player, short intense levels, with well defined goals.

For me, it’s all about that Scout…Shotgun to the back, then run away.

Word up.

Ok, so tiers…

Here is a list I just made up.

Demoman
Soldier

Medic
Engie
Scout
Spy

Pyro
Heavy
Sniper

Also, 2fort is a broken level and should be banned.

uh, for pc or xbox? it makes a big difference for aiming abilities and server size.

I need to get back on some TF2, GGPO is sucking all my fucking free time away, it’s like crack.

It doesn’t matter anyway. There’s no tiers. The game’s incredibly well-balanced and anyone can take out anyone.

While I generally agree with that, its not 100% true. The pyro is undoubtedly worse than some of the other classes, and the sniper has a significant number of problems. They are still situationally useful, but the are really the only two classes that can’t adapt to a new situation at all.

Its a matchup game, guys. If you tier it, you are talking about how the classes face off one on one (which is unrealistic in TEAM fortress).

The pryo is very strong, btw. Just not alone.

Pyros are awesome. A lot of people just don’t know how to use them. The number of people that play pyros and only use the flame thrower is kinda silly. Try this sometime:

Run into a group of enemies and torch kind of wildly. Make sure to catch each of them on fire, and keep running past. Most people panic once set on fire, and start running for a medic or a health pack. So once you’ve caught everyone on fire, turn, run backwards, and fire your shotgun into the burning group. It’s not terribly rare to take the entire group out.

The other thing is, never chase someone with your flame thrower out. Never. Anyone can just run backwards and get a free kill. In truth, you should play pyros kinda sneaky. Wait behind corners and jump out when a group is coming, let others play bait for you, hide underneath ledges until you hear people coming, etc.

And lastly, you don’t need to stick around for the entire fight with a pyro. Light someone up, fire a couple shotgun blasts while retreating, and then leave. Unless they have a medic or a health pack close by, they’re dead. You don’t need to see them fall.

But I can say, as much as I like TF2, I still haven’t found any servers with very good competition. I found one that has at least a couple good players, but most of the pubs are pretty lame. I’m hoping the competition picks up as time passes, because it’s a bit boring as of now.

I agree that the pyro CAN do a lot of damage, its just that the situations that they are strong in are rare, and even then they need support to really do a lot. They do very well when there are large groups of enemies close together. The problem is, this situation shouldn’t come up often. Even in a full 24 person server, I rarely see groups of more than 3 people in a distance that is ideal for a pyro. Usually, in that small of group, the pyro just gets rocketed to oblivion and doesn’t usually do more than the damage that the flames will do themselves. Most maps have enough health packs that you rarely will even get a kill this way.

I will also say, if you are taking out full groups of 3+ people with the torch and shotgun strategy, they aren’t very smart. I’ve seen what happens when good, smart pyros charge into a group of 3 of anything, and rarely does the pryo even walk away from the encounter, none the less with more than a kill assist or two. Usually, its pyro runs around the corner, a rocket and a couple shotgun shells hit him in the face, the pyro is now dead and might have set 3 people on fire if he’s lucky. If he somehow lived, all three people are backtracking while pumping whatever rounds they have at the pyro. So, mainly, its not really that the pyro is good so much as that the people that you are playing dont know how to react to the situation.

I’ve rarely seen a situation a pyro did well in that a heavy or soldier wouldn’t have done just as well or better in. The pyro is just an inherently situational class, and as far as I’m concerned, the only way to tier TF2 is by how situational a class is, and how common that situation is. The pyro is only strong in 1 or 2, fairly rare situations. The sniper is the same way, although unlike the pryo, the sniper CREATES the situation by being in certain places. The engineer is situational as well, but again, the engineer CREATES the situation (builds wherever), and also has a lot more flexability in that the engineer has a lot more choices of where to setup, and isn’t stuck in that spot for most of the game.

On the other hand, the soldier and demoman aren’t really situational classes at all. The soldier can be in the base holding the intel/point, and do well at it, or on the front lines. The soldier does well against individuals (being able to use rockets to pop people in the air, then finish them with an explosion), and also against groups (splash damage, plus a high potential to crit and take out 1-3 people practically for free). The demoman is at least slightly more situational, since he has more trouble on offense, but even as a part of the front line, sticky bombs control so much space that it kind of evens out. If you are good at arcing the shots, the main gun is pretty freaking good, too.

…that ending up being way more than I meant to write.

Ya know. Because you used an example and clearly explained why you didn’t like the game, I’ll give that to you. You sir I like.
