Seems like critical hits should be something that’s player-controlled in a competitive setting. Zoomed charged headshots, Jarate, Kritzkreig, and other guaranteed critical hits lose some of their significance if you can leave a crit up to winds of chance.
Yah, having the random factor would belittle the game play competitively seeing as 1 person could be lucky. Crits are fun for casual play, but a competitive server is pretty different and fun if you haven’t tried it.
Pubs aren’t competitive play. My 26 slot server isn’t competitive play lol
I might give it a shot. I’d probably rather play on a competitive server, honestly, SRK pally-os aside.
Maybe I phrased it wrong, I didn’t mean that pub servers were competitive play. Servers with those types of settings will help you learn them.(slow respawn, class restriction, no crit)
Finding 5 other people that will stick with it and picking up a scrim in IRC doesn’t take that long either, just expect to get rolled until you figure things out(getting to mid ASAP, positioning, medic awareness, etc.), but that’s what always happens.
Well i prefer pubs anyway. If i was gonna make a 12 slot it would be competitive and i would restrict that stuff
Well, we COULD TRY to run a competitive game (rules and such) provided we have the players. But many of you guys are new so it probably wouldn’t work well. IMO, the best thing is to run arena and just practice that way. Ah, Geese and I will try to fix the arena player cap before today’s usual session (4pm pst).
Practice makes perfect I suppose. I’m guessing they changed splash damage or something from rockets because I saw a vid where you could have a rocket land like 1 feet from him and he still died. Still working on predicting the feet.
Is there something I’m missing about demomen? It seems every game I play there’s a bunch of demomen running around with the eyelander and cleaving me np.
the eyelander and chargin targe. its new and its not a bad combo, so your gonna see a lot of random demomen charging at you and tryin to melee you in pubs.
It’s just because they got the new and interesting weapons. It usually takes about 2 weeks for everyone to calm down with the updated class and for it to go back to normal class distribution.
Does SRK have a server/group? sorry I didn’t read through 130 pages and search function seems to lock up =[
Yeah we have both:
SRK: We Da Best TF2 Server (16 slots/private)
8.9.5.70:27015
pw: srkwedbest
Current cycle - All Arena Stock maps
The Steam group requires an invite though.
I think we should run modded versions of Badwater to play as every game mode.
Aight…appreciate it.
I’m running out of ideas.
If you guys ever decide to run some 6v6 PUGS, count me in.
I can get 2 or 3 friends to join up if we need more players. They’re always interested in PUGs.
For anyone interested in learning competitive TF2, look at ubercharged.net’s guide.
It’s a 13-part piece, outlines the basics, dynamics, techniques, class roles, tips, and all kinds of other useful info.
But if we actually did run 6 v 6 push cp maps, I would play. Assuming that I would be allowed to play Pyro for Badlands.
Realistically, 6v6 only works on push maps. Usually the entire team of either side gets wiped out in each engagement. Maps like Dustbowl would never work because theoretically the offensive team would only need to win 2 engagements to win the game. Ubers also heavily throw the games balance in favor of offense.
Push maps allow you to play both sides of the field and the team dynamic to shift constantly, allowing you to get a better feel or all aspects of the game in one mode.
LOL who is this guy?
I want to mention that while there are many mechanics in the game that should not stop anyone from thinking what is most balanced and fun. I know that differs from person to person but the point is, just because it’s there does not necessarily mean that it is the best way to play.
6v6 can work anywhere, it is just map dependent. Dustbowl does not work because of the second point of the third stage, and the way the timer works – it can turn the match into a very long one. It is an excellent map otherwise for competition.
As for ubers, assuming both teams are at 100%, the team that uses it last is favored, offense or defense. I wish ubers heavily favored the offense, but defense usually wins out here.
What?
That doesn’t make sense. 6v6 doesn’t work due to the difference in respawn time being heavily in favor of offense, as well as the rate at which points cap. The only attack/defend map that truly works is Gravelpit. One push is all that’s required to cap either point in Dustbowl, as opposed to Gravelpit where points cap extremely slowly and the team can muster a comeback before the point is lost.
I was on REK/Paragon with you. Me and Scion killed the team.
This
Turn off intel cap crits in CTF it’s retarded
I don’t mind regular criticals too much but that shit drives me insane
