Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

You could go with vertical arrow since you already have greyhound, or you could go horizontal arrow if you want an extra projectile assist for Vergil that is slightly slower than greyhound to mix it up and keep your opponent off track. Both assists work well with Hawkeye, however since you already have rapid slash to help push opponents away from Hawkeye and covers the horizontal plane, you may want to run vertical arrows to help Hawkeye control the air.

Hello taskmaster players, I need your help with some input on two team ideas, the first one I’ve been practicing is Task (a)/Thor (b)/Sentinel (a) and the other is Task(a or b)/Iron-man (a or b)/Sentinel (a). Any thoughts on these teams would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Task Thor Sent…eh. Not very strong for point Task. Would be better with point Thor IMO
Task Tony Sent. Tony and Sent are really big liabilities but with all that excluded, really good team. Unibeam AND Repulsor are ridiculous and Drones are Drones lolll. I personally suggest UB and Drones.

new to umvc3. main mag doom sent. (viscant was right, it’s great for learning the game)
like having a 2nd team for some variety and playstyle inspiration.

I really really like taskmaster man…

wanted to run taskmaster point on a side team. I’m kinda picky about characters for this team. character has to benifit task and I have to like the look and feel of the character (helps keep me motivated to grind and learn when I hit that “wall”).

Just gonna throw out some ideas and was hoping some of you could tell me what is or isn’t a good idea in terms of giving the team viability. Considering your guys knowledge of team synergy is much more vast then mine.

Akuma
Vergil
Dante
Wesker
Strider
Hawkeye

thoughts?

Taskmaster/X/Akuma is fantastic. Out of those characters I would recommend Vergil or Dante, as both provide great assists for Task, and Vergil DHC can kill anybody. Shield Skills + tatsu blows through basically everything. I need to learn Vergil in that second slot, but Spencer is another fantastic assist/DHC that can insta kill anybody, and he takes good advantage of tatsu too.

Wesker is decent too, but I wish his DHC was better. Anybody know of a good way to take advantage of Wesker second since his corner DHC is ass? Does that swing sideswitch stuff work? Even still, damage is probably not that great. Wesker/Task/Akuma is good too, but I prefer point Task.

Vagrant, I’m not sure how you are coming with execution seeing as you say you’re new, but if you can learn to use Dante…you’re in there. In my opinion, I think that Dante is the best assist for Taskmaster hands down. Helps control space, projectile fights, lockdown, ext. The only problem with Jam Session ( and when I said dante, I mean Jam session ) is that it is horrid in terms of damage scaling. I solve that problem by putting vergil second on my team, as this can theoretically lead to a death off any touch with task.

If you want themed reasons, dante’s kind of an anti-ish hero and a mercenary of sorts, and task is an anti-hero and merk. My vanilla team was ( still is ) Task/Deadpool ( task’s nemesis/rival of sorts )/Dante. Although today I tend to use that as a predominately Dante based team.

Most people on the board can tell you how good Jam session is for neutral/all around good assist, and vergil is always a good decision, so that’s my take on the subject.

I would learn Task/Dante/Strider or Task/Vergil/Dante. Those are 2 fantastic support shells with a lot of characters and will help your game in general and give you plenty of team creation oppurtunities, Hawkeye or Akuma are not bad but they aren’t on the same tier as Vergil/Dante/Strider, and when you might want to convert to the dark side in the future it’ll give you a head start.

Hey guys thanks for the replys.

My execution is fine. usually when I struggle learning a combo it’s because I’m over thinking stuff, not because I can’t do it. I actually took Dante in the lab over the weekend and his bold cancel stuff isn’t bad at all.

Dante is a definite now.

I’ll take strider and vergil in the lab when I get some free time and see which playstyle I prefer.

I would so Task/dante/vergil over Task/vergil/Dante. The TOD is tempting, but I value the ability to DHC full screen with hyper arrows more and kill assists or x-factor a happy birthday. If you have a 3rd meter you can always do the loops.

I’m running Vergil second, it’s really rewarding, I’m earning more wins due to his derpiness (but I’m not mashing though). It might look awkward, but I’m using his Rising Sun assist, not Rapid Slash. Then I can combo off a throw after using tatsu as lockdown. And it can end combos nicely (otg 1 arrow, rising sun, 3 vertical arrows, shield, sting, otg 3 arrows, diagonal super)

About Wesker second, how about ending with: stingmaster, sj. forward, change sides, down super, dhc Wesker?

If you want to superjump crossup before DHCing, do it with TK H arrows, adds a bit of damage. Also, obviously doublesuper with Tasky will do more damage, but I’m not always confident I’ll land that when I need the kill, so the Wesker DHC sideswitch thingy sounds pretty good there.

Very ironic use of the word earning.

it’s earned because he was smart enough to pick a good character.

also akuma has some really silly combos with taskmaster arrows that give him crazy ridiculous damage but it requires clean hits

been messin around with task akuma hawkeye, it’s interesting

lol

Indeed it sounds weird. But I noticed some changes in my results:
With Spencer I usually win by having all three, or a comeback xf3 Akuma
With Vergil I’m getting wins with xf2 Vergil, and also with xf3 Akuma.
In other words, I got one more win situation that I usually didn’t have.

I kinda like Hawkeye/Akuma since Tatsu does some good stuff for him (poison arrow + tatsu to extend for instance and confirming slides or making them safe), but then you have Hawkeye second for a terrible DHC. I think Akuma/Hawkeye would be okay but very fragile… I assume Triple Arrow is decent since it’s good for everyone really, but any shenanigans I’m unaware of with the assist for Akuma?

I really should just learn Vergil but I don’t play enough to learn the loops (or maybe I just think it’s more complicated than it really is)

you don’t really have any kind of like mixup shennanigans but off clean hits you do monster damage.

you basically just combo whatever starting thing you do (overhead, magic series, aa whatever) into crh (or st.h), hawkeye assist+l tatsu and do the jump loop off it for like 650k meterless into two supers

That’s what I like to see. good luck man

So, any Task/Rapid Slash players around here? I just learned Vergil, I have a semi-meh hawkeye, I love Task with triple arrow, so I’m thinkin’ “Gee, Task/Vergil/Hawkeye sounds awesome”. I like it, but I have a few questions for all the Task/Vergils out there.

  1. What am I supposed to do with Rapid Slash on Task in neutral? It kinda helps my zoning, but I don’t have much else, and triple arrow gets the job done as it is.

  2. What am I supposed to do with Task Arrows on Vergil in neutral? lol, same thing, Triple Arrow is my assist of choice in neutral, I can’t find anything fun for the Task assist to do (although if I’m good at timing it diagonal arrows picks up off of helm breaker).

Next crestion, if not Vergil, who else really meshes with Task/???/Hawkeye? I had Deadpool on point with these two earlier and he is really good there, but like to experiment. I like playing Dorm and Strange, would be willing to begrudgingly learn Spencer but would prefer not to, and have an ass Dante I could work on. Other suggestions are also welcome.

i’d just use rapid slash to press them into the corner and then use it as a method of locking them down so you can do fuzzy guard mixups on them

horizontal aim master makes rapid slash safe

that’s all i really got, i only played that team for like a few weeks at the very start of ultimate but it’s a pretty amazing team

Thanks.

I’ll lab it. Right now my Deadpool teams are my fav, but I’m always picking something up on the side. I switch teams too often, but if I get some cool stuff in the lab I’ll let people know.
