Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

I’m back to playing Taskmaster/Spencer/Ammy almost full-time. I pretty much adore this team, I guess! Confirms off throws with spencer, great lockdown assist with Ammy that can set up incoming unblocks on most of the cast, two excellent THCs… I also like slant shot in neutral as part of my zoning game, it hits an angle I don’t want to devote time to covering with arrows and if it gets a hit it’s a free easy combo, which is nice~ And if things get shuffled out of order it’s fine, everyone on the team plays well with everyone else on the team.

People always tell me Taskmaster is a bad character. At one point I was even convinced it was true. But I’ve seen the light. I know what is right for me.

Yeah, I was just on the main UMVC3 board “Tier discussion” trying to argue why Taskmaster is WAY better than pretty much everyone gives him credit for. Most people just have never fought a good Taskmaster that abuses what makes him good (shield skills and throw option select IMO). I play your team except with Akuma in back instead of puppy. Tatsu is crazy amazing with shield skills, lets you pick up off throws (which saves Spencer for another extension or mix-up). At this point I guess I’m content to blow people up with Task because they don’t expect it. Let em’ think he’s not top 10 or 15…

I’m curious, with Akuma to handle ground pressure, have you reached the same conclusion as me that Diagonal Arrows is Spencer’s best Task assist? I love the angle it covers, forces people to fall into my mixup, offers better combo opportunities, ugh, I love it. I was on a Vertical Arrows kick briefly but I have much better ways to deal with people at the top of the screen. And, of course, the angle is better to catch people for massive damage from 0-frame near-full-screen THC.

I’ve honestly not yet tried anything but horizontal arrows ever (with any other characters lol). I will have to try that out today and see if it helps with getting in with zips and confirming on hits. I don’t abuse THCs at all, which I should. I know about the Spencer on second slot THC shenanigans you posted, so I should think about using that more often. I usually get enough mileage off of Task on point with tatsu and Spencer to extend/mixup that I’ve never really had to worry too much about getting in on people or opening them up.

Do you know of any tricky stuff with Spencer/Akuma? All I know really are easy intros to zip loops if the tatsu hits, but I don’t know of any reliable ways to get an additional UVG with him…

You ever tried Task/Spencer/Akuma? It’s so good, you should try it =) You can shield skill to your heart’s content and confirm if it hits/keep it safe if not and set up mixups. With your throw OS/Shield Skills, you can extend into death either way.

I’m not ever going to be playing something without Spencer/Ammy, sorry. Ammy is Spencer’s best THC partner and as an assist does most everything you’d want a beam for plus lockdown strong enough to even get fuzzy guard setups, Ammy lets Taskmaster get unblockables and makes mixup after blocked charging star free with the same effortless confirm as gives ideal damage off a random charging star, there’s… No, I’m not going to do that d:

I didn’t read everything above but I saw one thing that instantly made me want to reply…DIAGONAL ARROWS ASSIST IS UNDERRATED!! That assist is really really good. I’m trying to learn a second horizontal assist for my Nova team so I can play Nova, Diagonal Arrows, another assist. Diagonal arrows allow me to stay on the ground while it covers the air instead of my having to play the other way around…plus it can force some blocking on incoming. It’s so good.

Bolts?

Naa I’m learning Doom then eventually Iron Man

I’ve been working on this team

Task Dorm Doom, I was playing around with Task Dorm Akuma but dealing with Doom run away and characters that just outfootise Akuma is really annoying. I wanted to know if you guy had any idea’s I can get some really strong corner presure and lock down and even force people into eating a unblockable setup with task/sent. I just wonder if this tam is really worth it in the long haul. I was also considering Wolv Task Set/akuma

I should mention that I am having a hard time with teams like Nova Spences doom (mostly with the task dorm akuma team) and hulk hager sent (year we have a hulk player)

For the task dorm sent i played around with this setup

http://youtu.be/czFz7Rndrms (doesnt seem practical and it’s more of a variation of a combo that already seems hard

O___O what isn’t practical about it? That is MAD practical AND it isn’t optimized either

I should prolly be more clear on this, I said I THINK it isn’t practical not that it for sure has not way of being used in the game. I only just picked up the team and I am not familiar with how sent is used to help task. I get that he can help with locking downa and incoming mixups but thats it really.

You said it isn’t optimized could you tell me how you would do so, i am curious because I don’t know to get in more damage lol

When that video first does shield skills into sharp sting, spaced right you can do st.H into shield.

After the shield skills you can relaunch instead of straight sharp sting. For Dorm extension you can either relaunch with j.MH swing MHS, land, dash back and immediately call dorm, then swing forward and pickup with one arrow (much tougher than most pickups but becomes easier with practice), or just jump back MMHS for less damage, but much easier spacing for the dorm extension, just call the assist then swing.

Once Dark Hole hits, with a single arrow you can do st.H shield skills and then sharp sting, instead of just the sting.

That’s about it. Tasky’s lows are wonderful for footsies, and you can open up a ton with just spacing and staggered cr.L’s. Without assists, you can confirm often, so I see this combo showing up frequently in a match. Sounds practical enough to me.

As for neutral with drones, I haven’t tried it at all, but if it’s anything like bolts, keep them still with arrows to protect the assist call, or call it during a string into blocked spidey swing arrow M, or maybe blocked shield skills sharp sting will keep them still long enough

Either way, then try to rush in behind it, make them respect you, and then maybe once they’ve gotten scared to attack throw right before the drones hit? Or maybe just doing what high/low game Tasky has with swing. I bet there’s crossup setups with that assist, but hell if I know how to do 'em. Remember, this is just brainstorming, so don’t take my word on anything Task/Drones related.

Meanwhile, in the land of complete nonsense,

Nope…there is way more

Another video I recently found…I believe these may be easier but I have not tried them myself

If you go back a few pages in the forms you will see a few other concept videos people have posted

quick question can vergil get the same milage out of Parabolic Shot assist as spencer.

Oh, I know, I was more saying what he could do to up the damage on that specific combo. I like swag as much as the next guy, but getting the most out of the easy stuff is always helpful.

Though the Duck Strong corner combo is the most fun thing to land ever.

Or even easier, call Vergil, do 3 down arrows, land, do 3 up arrows cancelled into L+M arrow super, then DHC to swords and kill everything

Hrm…Taskmaster versus Viewtiful Joe…how do I not die horribly?

I like this idea of taskmaster/spencer, but I have some issues with anchor choice. I am not a big fan of some of the better options for anchor say akuma tatsu or ammy cold star. I am wondering how doom rocks ranks up there for assists taskmaster can make use of.

Only playing characters I think are cool makes team creation quite the challenge.

I am currently transitioning to a point Spencer team and Spencer Task Plasma Beam is REALLY GOOD. Some people might find me a little weird for not picking missiles for the lockdown/extensions but beam is too good. If you’re up to the challenge, Task and Spencer work really well with Iron Man too
