Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

Fair point. Hrm…yeah, Tasky/Strider would be stronger if Taskmaster was second. He has the meter to spare, and the point character is available to build it up. For that, probably Nova, Wesker, Point Doom?!, point Hawkeye, or Modok would be the better choices there synergy-wise.

So id been trying to decide if I prefer plasma over missiles, missiles over plasma; above are even a bunch of posts with me asking about either. But last night I was talking to a friend about how Eita plays his nova with rocks, and trying to determine if he just wants to be different, or had specific tactical reasons for it.

So on a whim I ran good ol Task Doom Ammy but with rocks. And it was actually pretty sweet! Sweeter than the other two I can’t quite say, but the delayed lockdown and seemingly quicker cool down time (ill have to test and verify that) actually felt pretty good for Task.

Anyone else mess with this and have any opinion? Id ask anyone who replies to not do so if you hadn’t actually played with it. Its easy to say its just a shittier plasma based on theory fighter, but even if it IS an inferior assist, it does have some uses and any input not based on experience just isn’t reliable or useful.

Try it and report!

I’m gunna say this once and one time only…STOP SLEEPING ON TASKMASTER COUNTERS! Those shits are so godlike. That is all. lol

So guys I am a Captain America player who runs Captain America (Shield Slash)/ Taskmaster (H. Arrows)/ Super-Skrull (Stone Smite) and I have been playing this team for a really long time I’m comfortable playing Taskmaster with an assist that doesn’t help his neutral game. I was considering switching to a Taskmaster point team which would be Taskmaster (H. Arrows)/ Dormammu (Dark Hole)/ Amaterasu (Cold Star). I just wanted to get a good opinion from you guys on this team. Also what sort of training regimen do you guys do with Taskmaster on the regular for training? I feel I’ll have to change the way I train since I might play him point with assists that are actually catered to him

Also thinking about running Task/Dorm/Ammy, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I’m using Taskmaster/Vergil/Akuma (in that order)
It has a one-touch-kill with Task DHCing into Vergil’s swords. It’s a great team with 3 character i love to play (and a OP one at that).

The only problem is my lack of assists for Task, since i’m using Rapid Slah and Tatsu, and those 2 seems like that same assist to me.

What assists would you recommend using this team?

Those are the assists you should be using most likely. Tatsu is a for-sure choice… shield skills + tatsu is amazing for pressure/confirming off of it especially since you can essentially just throw it out there and catch people off guard, especially at the start of the round. With Rapid Slash it lets you extend your combo a little bit in the corner or push people away if you’re trying to zone. I’m not sure how Vergil’s other assists work with Task, I just know that’s probably universally considered his best assist.

I think I need to just bite the bullet and learn Vergil since I’m constantly looking for a partner with Task/Akuma… I bounce between Doom, Spencer and Storm mainly. I feel like Wolverine is probably another good answer, BUT I really like playing Taskmaster on point. Doom missiles are fantastic but then Doom + tatsu isn’t that great and Akuma with missiles is good and all, but Akuma is pretty fragile and can eat a mix-up pretty easily on incoming and then it’s up to anchor Doom which is meh. I wonder if Magneto second would be good… but then I have to learn a brand new character which seems to have relatively high execution requirements.

Well Task can kill even thor using Vergil’s DHC.
Basically you do your bnb in the corner ending with j.S
Then u normal jump, call Vergil and do 3 down arrorws in the air (yes, 3, not 2) the slash sends him flying away, you now land and do 3 up arrows and cancel it into the L+M super, at the end you DHC into Vergil’s Swords and do that “take this” crap and finish the kill.

I really like Task/Vergil/Akuma but I wish I had a better assist instead of 2 nearly identical ones. I miss drones so much :stuck_out_tongue:

But Spencer on 2nd spot is really nice too because you have a zero-frame team super glitch. If the opponent is not already blocking, he’ll take the bionic arm from the team super.
I would play spencer instead of Vergil if I didn’t hate the guy.
I’m also considering Wesker instead of Vergil but then I lose the 1 touch kill

I would suggest dropping Akuma and adding a character with a fast projectile assist for your team. Adding Hawkeye or Magneto to your team for anchor will give your Taskmaster a long range approach and way in, can snipe assists, and can give you safe shield skills pressure. You can also use it for swing cancel/high low pressure/mixups and you can OTG the opposing character from a longer range. I sometimes feel like triple arrow is almost like a projectile version of tatsu, as its multi hit and I can do easy shield skills confirms off of it. Also Vergil would benefit better with a fast projectile assist for teleport mixups, and Vergil XF2 with a fast projectile assist is very oppressive. If you add Hawkeye you can switch him up with Vergil during the match, and then rapid slash helps Hawkeye’s keep away game. You could even use Doom with plasma beam but I’m not really a fan of using plasma beam for Task since I prefer a faster projectile assist.

Is it me or are any if you just not thrilled with plasma beam for Taskmaster? I’ve been learning Doom recently as he’s one of Dorm’s BFFs and been playing Task/Dorm/Doom as one of my teams and I am just not too thrilled with plasma beam, especially since I already have dark hole for Task’s ground game. I just don’t like how slow it is. I can see why some use missiles with Task over plasma beam.

This makes me wonder, what do you guys think are Task’s top 10 assists?
Here are mine:

1.Jam Session
2.Triple Arrow
3.Tatsu
4. Disruptor
5.Missiles
6.Uni beam
7.Plasma Beam
8. Dark Hole
9.Rapid Slash(?)
10.centurion Rush(I guess)

I know some of you might think I’m nuts for having triple arrow at the second spot but I feel like it makes Task a more mobile character with it. Also I was grasping at straws for the last two spots, other assists such as mystic ray, slant shot, cold star, tenderizer, etc. can go there or come right after.

Plasma beam is a lot better against teams that can easily blow up your missles calls. Mag is probably the most notorious culprit.

  1. Jam Session
    2)Plasma Beam
  2. Hidden Missiles
  3. Tatsu
  4. The other popular horizontal projectile assists.

peakaboo is probably #2 or 3. missiles is #1

Speaking of Peekaboo, I’m thinking of picking Trish up again for Tasky.

What do people think of Task/Trish/Dorm or Task/Dorm/Trish? With her second, I get DHC unblockables and really long TAC combos/infinites (if I manage to learn hers), and with Dormy second he gets peekaboo to help zoning and the Stalking Flare DHC, which can lead to unblockables almost as well. My problem is I am currently running quick work assist, and with Peekaboo instead I only get one extension assist, and nothing extends after a Dormammu TAC (that metergain was pretty insane).

Yes I forgot all about peakaboo! def would put it in my top 10 list, not sure about #2 or3 though.

I dont know maybe it just preference but Ive dabbled with every neutral assist in the game with Task and I just cant get away from triple arrow. I think its perfect for Task and it does everything that Tasks needs in a projectile assist. I can otg from almost full screen with swing canceling, I can chain two shields skills with it like tatsu, I can whiff a shield skills and if the opponent tries to attack me from behind I can follow up after t.arrow hits ala plasma beam, I can OTG off of air throws, extend combos, I can do a fake swing cancel into arrow and then go low like disruptor(or grab), I can apply pressure, snipe assists and catch them in time for me to dash and shield skills becuase its multi hit, I can do mixups, incoming and corner setups etc. Its like the jack of all trades projectile assist becuase it can do a little bit of everything that the other projectile assists do. Plus Hawkeye is my favorite character lol.

I would love to hear your reasoning on how missiles is better than Jam session as the #1 assist for Task tho. Would be a nice topic to discuss

hello Guys

i’m running Jill/Wesker

thinking task anchor is good?

they’re both really good but missiles has a better pressure component to it than jam session i think, which is vital as task. forcing the opponent into blocking from any height and distance while getting beefy ass combos and the ability to use his less safe movement options and offensive tools make s me put it over jam. Jam is good but missiles is unique in the range it provides for task. Like projectile assists cover what jam does but nothing is quite like missiles. Same opinion I have for peakaboo and nova shield

so do you not play task/trish/frank anymore tab?

i do, but only for matchups where i feel like i can’t keepaway and am forced to rush down. i’m not quite sure what those are yet beyond point vergil and chris teams though.

i just have a preferential style for keepaway- i still feel that task/trish/frank is inherently a better team (unless vs. zero) than the task/nova/hawkeye one because of the steamrolling nature, comeback chances and ability to burn xf early on problem characters and still have a major lead thanks to frank lvl 5.

Really searching for a reason to play task instead of doom on the following team. Spencer/Zero…Task,Doom,Hawk are all options. Overall doom is the best character of the 3 but its ugh doom. Spencer…kills off of first hit via dhc LL. so that usually leaves me with a Cloned dp assist. Incoming mix up with Slant wire with Task switching to point(i hate using him last) Overall it seems doom does better chip safer chip more damage more mobility. Task can combo off of the DP assist hit but its a pretty weak combo.
