What are you trying to gain of the assists? I’m assuming you’re doing jam session and debating that or missiles with doom for AA support and pressure strings? Personally I REALLY like Task/Doom(missile)/Vergil(rapid). The team has a lot of synergy in terms of space control and pressure strings. Task + vergil rapid slash is guaranteed unblockable in corner and it’s very easy to set up a block string with missiles. Plus vergil creates really obnoxious pressure strings by doing +:h:, :a2:, what ever (repeat forever for chip and meter). You could also do Task/Dante(jam)/vergil(rapid).
Personally I just really like vergil as an assist and he’s such a good anchor and DHC. I think he is better than akuma as the team anchor and given that Task can cover vergil so well, the assist is arguably better since it’s full screen, way more frames (easy unblockable), easier to convert, better push back for cornering and GTFO.
As for missiles vs jam. I think missiles serves task better. Missiles lets task lame out from full screen as well as the other benefits that comes with missiles. I just think jam will be more of a block string and space control and not a powerful set up tool like we see some characters do with it that have cross up potential and better air to air conversions (not to say he doesn’t have any). Dante however if a better DHC partner in a lot of cases and can convert OTG arrow pick ups after throws and etc much better.
Task/Dante/Akuma was just an option that I can do becuase I play both characters. Really what Ive been looking for is a character to play with Taskmaster and Hawkeye becuase they are my two favorite characters in the game. I decided on Dante becuase jam session is one of Tasks best assist and with it you can setup his unblockable setup on incoming characters and in the corner in general. You can convert off of throws with it, use it for shield skills pressure, use it for zoning, and is one of the best AA assists in the game. I could also use jam session wth Hawkeye which is probably the best assist for him
I was playing around with Vergil and rapid slash and in no way does it compare to the pressure strings of Task+Tatsu. With Tatsu, Taskmaster can drive through low durability projectiles, easily convert off of throws, and use it to lock down the opponent in the corner better than rapid slash(while in the corner) . Tatsu also comes out quicker, and although it doesnt push the opponent as far back as rapid slash, its a better gtfo me assist becuase of how fast the assists starts. Task also can convert off of Tatsu far easier and from any area of the screen, while with rapid slash if your not mid screen-corner you have to call the assist first so Vergil can start up, then shield skills, and IF the opponent gets hit by the shield skills then the rapid slash will connect, where you can then dash up and shield skills and convert into a combo. If the shield skills doesnt connect and you dont cancel into arrows or sharp sting to make it safe(which wont allow you to convert off of rapid slash if shield skills did hit), then the opponent can easily stuff you and Vergil. At least with tatsu the only way the opponent can really stuff both Task and Akuma is to XF cancel the pressure string. The only thing is that Vergil is such a high damaging and derpy character, and Akuma as an anchor is outclassed by many of the top tier characters.
I decided against Vergil becuase I did not like Taskmaster/Vergil synergy. The dhc options are nice, and Vergil/Hawkeye is a strong combination, but I didnt want to rely soley on greyhound for my assists. With Jam session I can control the vertical, and with either Hawkeye,Akuma, or Dormammu I can control the horizantal plane. As far as Doom goes, hes the best assist characer in the game, and the jam session vs. missles is debateable, but I just do not like the character and would like to make a team without having to turn to Doom. I also think that Jam session is a better assist overall for Hawkeye than missles.
Task/Dante/Hawkeye a pretty good team. They all benefit well from each others assists and it can be pretty much played in any order. You can even substitute the arrows assist to up arrows if you are running Dante on point. I like the team, most of it’s orders would be pretty good and you can counterpick based on orders in many matchups. Jam Session is extremely good for Hawkeye keepaway, and it helps Task both keepaway/rushdown. Dante benefits a lot from both arrow assists(they have different uses but both are good). Up arrows isn’t half bad either.
Thanks again for the input, your Taskmaster/Dante videos are also a big help and was one of my deciding factors when I decided on Dante. Thanks again, and I will let you all know on my progress. Just gotta start learning his combos, movement, hit confirms, setups etc. and ill be golden!
I feel like we’ve been in the same boat for months =) Similar character crisis, and similar solutions. I too am trying to learn Dante for my second slot for Task/X/Akuma. Task + tatsu is just sooooo good, and it’s hard for me to give it up. When I play other Task teams lately I miss that almost reckless unrelenting pressure rush down style. Dante plays very unconventionally to any character I’ve ever played, but hopefully I can devote a few hours in training mode.
I really need easyish go-to BNBs for getting a clean hit with Dante and using Akuma to extend in some effective way, or for when I confirm off a tatsu assist + box dash or something if it’s much different. The whole bold canceling stuff is the first hurdle to wrap my head around and use effectively.
I’ve been working on a secondary team of Firebrand(fireball), Tasky(vertical shot), Ammy(cold star). I’ve tried many different configurations of Firebrand point teams and I have been getting the most mileage out of this one. I’ve played Task since vanilla and feel very comfortable with him, but I have never played him backed up by cold star. I was wondering if anyone who has played this duo can give me any insight into how they work together. So I have a few questions.
What is the best way or string to set up a blocked cold star?
What should I do when I get my opponent to block cold star?
[S]Can I get a relaunch off of an air throw with help from Ammy?[/S] edit: I saw tabs video, that answered this one
When I land a hit without using my assist can (and should) I use it for an extension?
Anything important that I should consider when using this pair?
I know that’s quite a bit, any help is greatly appreciated.
I’ve been playing Taskmaster for quite a while now and I love his keepaway game. The thing is, I’ve only been playing keepaway as my ONLY strategy because I can’t rush the fuck down for shit. I want to know what your pressure strings are with Task and some general tips for rushing down because really, I don’t think I even know the basics of rushing down.
On a side note, I run Task/Dorm/Akuma and Task/Dorm/Dante, changing the anchor depending on the matchup: Tatsu against ground based teams, Jam against aerial based teams.
Also, I want to change Dorm because he’s starting to become a liability to my team but I don’t know who to switch him with, any suggestions? No Dooms, please. I hate Doom.
I made a thread in general char regarding who I should pair with Taskmaster as a new player.
Many have mentioned Doom as anchor but also I have seen many mention that Doom is not a ‘noob’ friendly character. Who can I pair with Taskmaster for a noob friendly team to help me get more into this game.
All I have currently been doing is practicing Taskmaster combos (only a few, nothing too crazy) to a point where I can get them down without thinking. What should I be practicing?
Arthur, Strider, and Hawkeye are best last on a team, I’d say. So would others.
For Taskmaster, noob friendly characters…I think Dormammu is pretty easy, and some people say he is, some people say he isn’t. I’ve heard the same about Akuma. Both are good for him in the long run, both are possibly easy, possibly not.
Sentinel’s the “works with anything” guy, easy to learn, great assist for everyone, and good second for the DHCs and last so two people get drones, which is always a good thing.
Vergil’s easy and powerful. His assists may not really help Taskmaster too much, but they pair together well anyway. You can play Vergil first and Taskmaster second or the other way around. Actually, those two can work anywhere on a team depending on what the third person likes.
Also, Nova, easy to learn, good assist, powerful DHC.
Arthur, doom, hawkeye are actually all considered best as 2nd on a team. Arthur and Hawkeye have an amazing x-factor game, but if it runs out by them blowing theres, they become very weak as anchors without assists. Doom has match up issues when alone and can be out zone by characters like Magneto, Task, Dorm, strange, etc…
People get caught up in the damage and x-factor buff, but really these characters are only good placed as anchors if your 2 front characters are getting serious synergy with the assist.
Vergil’s rapidslash assist is great with taskmaster. Used in block string and covered by arrows it makes a very annoying chip team that constantly pushes them out. In the corner +:h:+:a1:, :dp:+:m:, :h: is a guaranteed unblockable. You can set it up by doing :qcf:+:m::h: and then doing a string into it.
That’s not a bad team. That give Task a very strong zoning game with assists that are useful as combo extensions. Hawkeye with rapid slash does the same annoying constant push out zoning and DHC to swords is a great way to make hawkeyes weak combos much stronger.
Now I said those characters were bad anchors, but that’s mainly due to too many bad scenarios that can arise. If you notice your opponent has blown x-factor for the match or their remaining characters have a hard time with hawkeye keep away, feel free to dhc vergil in and play hawkeye anchor for the rest of the match. I do this all the time with doom/vergil. Sometimes doom is great anchor and if i see hat situation, i’ll put vergil in and abuse vergil w/missiles.
Protip with Hawkeye DHC - try not to DHC to gimlet in combos, it does ass damage with the scaling, learn to DHC to the upshot, or save the meter unless it will kill. Vergil NEEDS meter and Hawkeye always wants to sit on 1 or 2 for punish so don’t waste it. Meter management is very valuable to that team.
Was up guys! I have decided to put some real effort into this game, as I mainly play SF, but since so many people play in my area I’m determined to learn. Anyways, I play Zero/Doom/… and looking for an anchor. What is the general opinion from TM players as an anchor. I know zero has better assist characters such as Dante and Vergil, but i do not like playing them. i do not need TM for an assist, but I will use alpha as I can LL from it. I want the general opinion for TM as an anchor…pros and cons.
Thanks
He’s solid as an anchor but doesn’t gain much from x-factor in his neutral game, but the damage boost with arrow chip is really good. TM is one of those characters that does best with assists, but fairs well as anchor simply because his neutral game and match ups are fairly good as is.
I would assume you would do Task/IM/xxx instead. I think IM is typically not a great anchor and I think you get unblockables if you’re using repulsor blast to give you some good momentum if you get the first kill and set up the incoming character.
