Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

Task by definition lacks mix ups. Because some other character (the assist) gives him the opening, him alone cannot create “high-low” mix ups, he doesnt have an air dash, he cant tridash and he doesnt have an overhead.

What he can do is tick throws, and frametraps.

vs a lonely Taskmaster you need to deal with his frametraps and his zoning, end of the story.

Meaty mighty swing its stupid, even if you back it up with an assist, it will leave you vulnerable to air throws and it can be negated by a well timed advancing guard.

Back in Vanilla your “legit” mighty swing was a real thing, because of the “auto tracking” that the move had you could create fuzzy guard set ups and real confusing mix ups.

Task incoming set ups are great against characters that doesnt have air dashes or air options, like phoenix wright… but any other character with airdash or air moves will escape.
The tiger knee arrows set up will pin them down even if the have air options, but since its a “slow” mix up and a lot of people know that once taskmaster throws his arrows, theres nothing he can do on the air, it can be x-factor cancelled by the opponent leaving you in a bad spot.

If you are looking for something really confunsing you will not get it out of Taskmaster.

Theres only 1 true glitchy thing with task and akuma, but it only works with certain characters, so you lose this option half of the time.

Dorms Black hole assist is used deffensively, while akuma is the offensive assist, they both extend my combos and have decent sinergy with task, so no, i dont have any trouble opening people up.

Majority of characters in this game need an assist for a mixup. Dante/Wesker/Vergil Teleports? Not a mixup unless you are in level 3 XFactor speed boost unless you use an assist. Magneto/Storm/Firebrand/Viper/Morrigan/Trish/Nova Tridashes? They need an assist locking the opponent down to the ground otherwise tridashes can be chickenguarded.

Task’s mixups are complete ass solo outside of incoming mixups and I never denied that, but they are pretty legit with assists. I never said anything about meaty swing, but something like dash crM call assist stH f+H is a good way to force someone into his high/low mixups, and still force a low/throw mixup if pushblocked due to assist lockdown. Mighty Swing high/lows are his main mixups and that’s what the character is designed around.

I’m curious to know what exact combo you use. When you say 900k damage, are you referring to a combo DHCing into Dormammu, all the way through to Akuma, etc.? I am in training now and can get 900k with basic combo if I DHC into Dormammu, so I’m guessing that’s what you’re talking about. I have tried to use that team and I’m just not good at Dormammu yet as I don’t take advantage of his mobility well enough at the moment or just basic practices like when to use flame carpet, when to be casting pillars/etc. I definitely want to work on it though. I wish Dark Hole assist was a little bit less tricky with Taskmaster in the corner to extend and that it let me extend full screen. That’s why I like using Doom beam, because it builds a lot of meter and lets me extend with arrow swing anywhere on screen which helps me get second bar off a shield skills + tatsu confirm at the start of the round to kill a lot of the lower HP characters.

I’m basically trying to build the strongest pressure team for Taskmaster, and while I love Doom assist and even playing Doom most of the time, he doesn’t really benefit from Tatsu much and Akuma gets way more out of plasma beam mix ups (plus DHC into Akuma is much better), so it’s Task/Akuma/Doom… but then as an anchor, he can sometimes be a liability against certain zoning teams or if they have a zoning assist.

I’ve been working on Task x Vergil stuff, and I was just wondering if there is any way to get a Sting Master off of a Rapid Slash assist after a full BnB? Do you have to go straight into sting master while vergil is in the middle of rapid slash?

You can shield skills, go into 3 up arrows, super after rapid slash pretty consistently. Shield skills right before rapid slash launches might work…but that’s harder to time, and may vary depending on hitstun. I personally like the first option.

I’ve never tried going into straight sting master. Hrm…

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out extensions that don’t involve launching or using a meter, so I can use Vergil at the end of a combo if I (say for example) either have no assist, or if I’ve already used ____'s assist for a combo confirmation or something. For the first instance there’s no real reason for me to extend with Rapid Slash because Vergil does OD damage off of a DHC anyway, but I was just curious haha

Yeah I can’t figure anything out off of a BnB, they always fall out before I can get a Sting Master off…oh well.

It is possible to negate vergil’s juggle by doing a shield skills at the end of rapid slash, but it seems to timing to do so is specific. I’m labbing it right now.

Lemme try it after a large amount of hitstun…here’s the problem. I just did a not-too-insane hitstun combo, cr.M st.H swing j.H swing Arrows M st.H shieldskills S j.MH swingMHS, otg arrows into vergil, st.H shield skills, they fell from the shield skills, but reset just above the sharp sting.

However, in messing it up, I hit them into a hard knockdown and they rolled up into blocking vergil, there could be a good wakeup game in this. I only ever used rapid slash for ending combos, and then swore off vergil about a month back, but rapid slash keeps surprising me.

it is possible to get shield charge->sting at the end of a bnb with vergil assist but it’s a huge pain in the ass. when i did it i opted for just doing sting after the slashes, or launcher j.s down arrows

regarding ‘resets’ with it, that’d be something like this

I thought I was the only one that knew about that Sting Master cross up stuff lol…good shit. You can do the sting and webswing to switch sides or u can do a dash into swing to stay on the same side. I guess it’s a cute little mixup if you have the right assists.

I’m starting to think that Task/Trish/Dante and Task/Dante/Akuma are some of the stronger Taskmaster teams. Anyone have thoughts on that?

I’m still searching for the perfect Task/X/Akuma team. Usually it bounces between Doom, Spencer, or Hawkeye, but everything has downsides. Ideally the second slot needs to do 3 things: extend Taskmaster combos from anywhere on screen (like Doom beam can), be a strong DHC, and benefit strongly from tatsu assist. I really wish Tatsu still had knockdown… then Doom would be nuts with it, but alas, it’s not very good for Doom unless they’re in the corner. I have always wanted to try Dante as he is pretty good, but I’ve always been intimidated and have never played him at all and would just need someone to show me the best bnb I should be using with him. His moves all seem weird, but maybe it’s just because I’ve never really sat down with him. What all does Dante bring to the table for Task and with the tatsu assist? I know he can do help with unblockables and stuff but I’ve never tried relying on unblockable setups really.

Well, I’m just thinking, I tried playing Dante and just didn’t enjoy his combos (my execution was not the greatest) but Dante can do teleport mixups easily with Akuma, has vertical coverage, has Devil Trigger for the safe DHC, both assist pick up for Tasky pretty well, and Akuma assist pushes them to the corner really well for Dante unblockables. His DHC is good for damage, and (I think it was) Leafcolonel who talked about the THC X-factor unblockable thingy from pretty much any position. He also allows Task pressure after his assist, like akuma. I think I’m out of synergy things, but I bet I’d have more if I learned any more of Dante than a few bnbs.

Edit: I was wrong, Devil trigger after an air diaongal arrows in the corner allows him to Volcano into ground bounce, and then I don’t know how to optimize the followup, but it exists.

I think Task/Dante/Akuma is the most optimized team for Task on point. It’s not the best team for Task, nor the best team with Task on it, but it provides 2 of Taskmaster’s best assists and there is a lot of synergy between Task and Dante, and Dante/Task + Akuma. There is another person on this subforum that uses the Task/Dante/Akuma team too.

Devil Trigger is pretty useless for follow ups though and you should always go with Million Dollars, Dante’s minimum scaling is too terrible to do any real damage. If you want to learn Dante combos or the character check the subforum, it’s extremely helpful. It takes a while to learn him but it pays off immensely.

Jam Session extends any of his hitconfirms and allows him to combo off shocksting/throws and the like, and keeps things like Shield Skills safe while providing him with unblockable setups. Note that there are certain ways to get out of the setups, and they aren’t fool proof like Skrull’s Tenderizer, but I won’t expose myself here. I posted tech regarding Task/Dante on the previous page:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/t/taskmaster-matchup-and-team-building-thread/119716page-15

Reposting the tech from the Community Task/Doom/Ammy thread. Cold Star + Missile setups.

Ridiculous incoming Taskmaster Cold Star setup. non crossup/Cross up stM . Into a 2nd cross up or non crossup jH after the swing. Into fuzzy guard IOH or High lows or throws. Just as dumb as Zero Jam Session mixups

Basic Cold Star Corner unblockable setup(not double jump or air dash proof, but Shield Skills will stuff most buttons incoming including helm breaker)

Basic THC corner unblockable with Task. (Use M Sword Master after XFC, confirm with Shield Skills into S). Requires 3 Bars + XF1

Task Up Arrows + Doom Missiles setup. Requires 1 bar. Timing is impractical + there is an escapable gap.

Task Up Arrows with Doom Missiles along with Ammy setup. 1 bar setup. Not escapable by Double Jumps/Airdashes. Completely cheap. You have to time your 2nd Shield Skills + Ammy assist so it’s not throwable. But I assume this setup works and is almost guaranteed if you learn the timing. This will work with other lockdown assists like Jam Session/Shopping cart too.

Another unblockable setup I assume is possible is timing the hidden missiles with a soft knockdown or end of a hard knockdown so you get a free unblockable on them on wake up. This might work with heavies + cold star in the corner if they can’t duck the cold star after a forward roll.

was it common knowledge that Taskmaster can pick up off of a ground throw with drones with a meter? i was trying stuff like that with all of the “slower” assists because I saw Moons try it with cold star.

provided the right assists he can, of course, build another bar with sting master.

again if this was known, forgive me haha

Hey all, I’m in a character crisis AGAIN, this time for an alt team. So, I have been using Taskmaster/X-23/Dormammu, but I realize I’m doing all the work with Taskmaster/Dark Hole and X-23 just gets the guaranteed kill when she can, my neutral with her has gotten too rusty from lack of practice, and though I like all the insane potential she has with those two in the lab, I just can’t deliver in a match. So, I need a new playmate for Task/Dorm. What do people think about the following guyz?

Strange- Love the Dorm/Strange shell, main it. Why not? My concern is protecting bolts and that I won’t have a good ground throw conversion at all.
Deadpool- Going for one of the many ChrisG sides, quick work looks fun with Tasky, easy enough extension, but how is it for unblockables? I’m hoping that anyone here can lemme know. DHCs look amazing, and same with the potential for demolishing assists the moment they’re called. Problem: Never played much Deadpool.
Vergil-I would if it turned out he’s the best ever for this team, but I really dislike playing the toppest of tier when I know I’m only a mediocre Vergil right now.
Nova- I’ve seen Taekua do some cool stuff, but wondering how infallible some of the centurion unblockable setups are without Vergil’s swords to keep them still.
Hsien-Ko- I have a thing for terrible characters, and her assist probably rocks at unblockables/annoying the crap out of the opponent. Once again, only used her a bit, but that just sounds like too much fun. Just checked, the extension midcombo is easy enough too, no throw conversion, though.

That’s all I got, anyone’s other suggestions for strong pairings would be helpful, as well as thoughts on these guys. Also, I know Dante and Akuma are perfect for Taskmaster, I just don’t like/am not good at playing them. I have like two rainstorm combos with Dante and boxdashing, that’s it, I tried, and my Dante’s so bleh.

quick work is great for taskmaster. the unblockable isn’t really guaranteed but it’s a pain to deal with. not only that, but quick work is a fantastic poking assist for him (similar to akuma) while being both low and also invincible on alpha counter. it also lets him to combo off throws. not really much else to say beyond that. task/deadpool is a solid combination, with some gimmicks here and there. dorm/deadpool is kind of an iffy combination to me though. don’t really know how much they do for each other. to be honest i’d run doom on that team because missles does so much for both dorm and task.

I’ve had a similar character crisis with the same characters(Task/Dorm). At one point I was running Task/Dorm/Akuma but have since dropped that team because I’m not a fan of Dorm/Akuma. From running this setup ive seen that Akuma doesn’t add too much to Dorm besides a great dhc, and for me that’s not enough. With Dorm your kinda limited as to what characters to choose that are good anchors but also help Dorm the most.Dorm is a needy character, and to play him at his highest potential, I suggest pairing him with one of these characters.

Doom IMO is Dorms best assist character as you could use either HM(Dorms best assist, and best assist if you play a zoning/keep away Dorm) or plasma beam(great for a teleport mixup/rushdown dorm) and they’re also great assists for Task. If you didn’t want to play Doom then I would suggest maybe Magneto because disruptor does about the same for Task/Dorm that plasma beam does. You could also use Morrigan as dark harmonizer is also an awesome assist for Dorm.

The other top assists for Dorm are lariat and jam session but you would have to switch the order of your team with Haggar to Haggar/Dorm/Task, and you said you didn’t like Dante so he’s out. I also think that Strange is a great with Dorm, with either the eye assist or bolts, but bolts isn’t a good beam assist for Task(can’t convert off of throws well), and I don’t like the idea of having dark hole AND eye( seems redundant).

The problem with me is that I have no interest in playing ANY of the above characters so I dropped Task/Dorm altogether. I actually brought Dorm into my c team of Cap/Dorm/Strange and am liking the synergy between the three so far.

Doom I have never had a desire to play. He would make my life a bit easier, but I just really dislike him. It’s not so much that I dislike Dante than I suck with him. Haggar/Dorm/Task, I actually used to run the order Dormammu/Haggar/Task, and have played Haggar/Dorm/Task, and Task/Haggar/Dorm, but with either assist Haggar has to try REALLY hard to get in on anyone running a solid beam assist. I might try them out again if the mood hits me, but Haggar’s just so good with Strange then I think I should run Haggar/Dorm/Strange, and then I’d lose Tasky, and that would be terrible. Also, Haggar/Dorm/Task, probably one of the better orders, gives me few options to play Task/Dark Hole, which is the reason I play that pairing. Actually, the entire point of having this team is to make Taskmaster/Dark Hole look good, so yeah.

I’ve had the same thoughts about Task/Strange, eye would be redundant and bolts has trouble throw converting. I love Dorm/Bolts, and run anchor Strange elsewhere, so it’s a tough call for me.

This is a dilemma, as Dormammu is probably my best, except for maybe Nemesis, so I feel bad about taking him out, ever. Gonna look into Deadpool and Maggy. I’d look into Morrigan, but I’ve never played her a day, I think my chances are better with the other two.

Also, wow, you guys are quick to respond. Almost forgot to mention. Thanks for the very prompt advice!

Well guys after much testing and consideration it looks like I’m going to pickup Dante instead of Vergil. I just feel that adding Dante will benefit my team and the characters I play (Taskmaster, Akuma, Hawkeye, Dormammu) more than Vergil would. I’m thinking of playing Taskmaster/Dante/Hawkeye as my main team, and I can also switch to Taskmaster/Dante/Akuma, Taskmaster/Dormammu/Dante, and even Hawkeye/Dante/Akuma if I wanted to.It was either that or pick up Doom, and I hate that character more than I hate Dante soo…any thoughts, opinions, or advice would be appreciated!
