Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

For Frank, I want to add that people get complacent in giant swing. You see a pattern, and if they leave themselves open, punch through it. There’s gaps, and Taskmaster has the normals/shield to fill them. A lot of people are scrubby and think that anything they do with that swing instantly becomes safe forever. I know I do at times :P. Why I switched to a bit more Tools L, actually. The problem with that move is a well-placed advancing guard sends them flying fullscreen, and then you can zone effectively once more. Also, you can grab him out of his roll, so certain strings are grab bait, lovely how shield skills is such a perfect option select. Careful, as they can cancel roll into giant swing for some cool mixups, but blocking Frank is a bad idea, so there are some moments when it’s available to change it up.

Want to add to Vergil that Air M arrow is unsafe period. Even with an assist the assist will not auto correct and he gets a free happy birthday. I never realized that til recently, that’s a heads up. Also this maybe obvious but do not mighty swing on block with any of the above, they are too short and will punish you when you whiff the swing.

And all I know against Zero, raw lightning crossups are very unsafe while getting into position, though they can fake the unsafe mixups, baiting button presses and such, if they’re good enough. If that’s the case, yeah, I got nothing.

You can always hit Zero off of his Raikousen and his Buster cancels with a simple Shield Skills. Just be sure to kill him off a raw shield skills with the BnB.

Looks like no one got to you. This team should be fine. Good infact.

Both of these assists should be able to setup Sword Master if you time it properly. At the very least it should help you with arrow OTGs, beating zoning and forcing chip damage.

It’s mah BnB I never fuck it up.

Okay guys, I am trying a new team, HOLY CRAP, I love it, so fun, my favorite thing. Two orders I particularily like, though possibly all of them work okay. Haggar/Dormammu/Taskmaster, or Taskmaster/Dormammu/Haggar. Now, about my second order, I know switching Haggar and Dormy would be better for their neutral games, but 1. I like Dormy with Haggar spin, I can go into jump loops and combo off his corner ground throws, and 2. Taskmaster can get stupid-damaging converts with the TAC to Dorm.

So, here’s the thing. Taskmaster has a really fun string st. or cr. M, st.H, shield skills and Dorm assist, one arrow forward, then the dark hole hits. Scaled like crazy on hit, thanks to dark hole, but works on most advancing guard timings, and gives me crazy frames before them to do whatever I want. In addition, slightly altered timing of the dorm assist keeps them stuck for sword master. and Taskmaster can combo off sword master (or a forward ground throw!) with haggar assist and one downward arrow, midscreen or corner. Currently my followup, though scaled like crazy, is (after the haggar assist hits) j.MH swing j.MHS shield skills launch, MMH swing TAC. Kinda small combo, but it works everywhere, and much meter is built, so chaotic flame or dark dimension, yay.

Haggar has a beamish assist, a pressure tool (dark hole), and a crapton of damage, as he can extend with both of them in the corner, and with Dark Hole midscreen. He also does absolutely stupid damage by TACing to Dorm. And, still working on the timing, but it has worked a few times for me in sparring, a dark hole incoming, if they block it, allows for a nigh-inescapable hoodlum launcher H.

Dormy has a spin for stopping pressure, relaunching in the corner, and throw followups. And he has beam for all the fun things dormammu does with beam. Between flame carpet, pillars, cheeseball and lariat, he’s tough to get near.

And DHCs. Air Task Diagonal Arrows -> Chaotic Flame, Air Task Diagonal Arrows->Rapid Fire Fist, Chaotic Flame->Body Splash (corner), Chaotic Flame->Task Vertical Arrows->Air Task Vertical Arrows (corner, you do a tiny swing and can do double supers there), Rapid Fire Fist->Chaotic Flame or Horizontal Arrows or Vertical Arrows or Ball O’ Fire. All of those DHCs I listed are really really damaging. And the dumb stuff, Vert Legion Arrow (air) DHC to Dark Dimension, but you will never need this to kill a character.

Wondering if people play anything like this, and if there’s some matchups that destroy this team. I heard from another place missiles and plasma beam will be the team’s weakness, but in a way, that’s every team’s weakness.

haggar can also combo with otg and dorm dark hole.

and can crossover counter in with Lariat. my haggar team uses Magneto instead of Task. but Im sure this can work

Oh, yeah, Haggar gets extension from both assists, Taskmaster and dormy make constant use of both assists too. Synergy, yo. And, hrm, can Haggar extend combos with disruptor?

thanks for the advice and insight.

Trisha, nova, Taskington. What’s the verdict?

Sounds good to me. I believe Trish to be one of the most underrated characters in Ultimate. The only problem with her is damage and that’s why most of the top players who use her (maybe 2 of them?) have Wesker for the unblockable round harvest setups. Here you can do unblockable setups with Taskmaster using Nova assist.

The team looks like it has a lot of potential. That and it’s one of the few that wouldn’t have Wesker.

That’s kinda what I was going for. I don’t like Wesker at all. I started playing Trish in vanilla (my main then was Trish, Hulk, Task, but dropped Hulk because of his fraudulence in my hands lol) and I’ve been wanting to pick her back up because she isn’t played by many people. I think the most popular Trish players are Jago and RDK and there are some nasty unblockable setups she can create. What about the order though? Im debating on whether or not to start nova. I’ve been playing him since day one Ultimate and I love him on point. But I feel maybe with this particular team, he may be better second. Or maybe Task is better second, I’m not sure.

I actually like the original order most! Trish with access to both of those assists seems really strong.

Honestly, never play Taskmaster without some sort of lockdown assist.
Just look at ChrisG’s gameplay. It was very beautiful actually.

Hey, he plays like me! He also forgets that off a Dark Hole confirm one cannot go into the regular relaunch timings, or it’ll drop. I drop the same thing all the time!!! I’m fanboying a bit right now.

But suriously, Dorm/Task make an excellent pairing. I’m liking that he also does shield skills into arrow and dark hole a lot. It’s free mixups, and is damn annoying to fight.

Oh fosho, I really was amazed at how ChrisG played Task and dorm’s assist. It truly was beautiful, really, seeing how the opponent just kept taking it. Know any footage of Task and Tatsu’s assist?

Nope. I don’t see many Akuma players on stream. I did recall another Task/Dorm at EVO who did different Dark Hole strings, a lot more spidey swinging during the dark hole call. I personally like the shield skills method more, because it eats projectiles and can be done as a get-off-me as well as an offensive tool. That dude was still a badass, though.

And in matches, yeah, you do that kinda stuff and the opponent runs into it. I speak from personal experience, they just get annoyed and want to go in, and Tasky and/or Dark Hole is always ready to punish those attempts.

Taskmaster/Dante/Akuma has been my team for quite some time. Taskmaster and Akuma truly work quite well together and the two have a lot of synergy. Akuma’s tatsu assist not only can keep random shield skills safe but gives Taskmaster the ability to combo off of throws and get damaging combo extensions.

Here are a few examples:

Use can also use the assist to extend after a TAC into Taskmaster. There are a lot more variations but these are generally the ones I use.

There was a really good taskmaster player on 8waybreak he bodied marlinpie in vanilla with wolve/task/akuma … I cant remember his name or spell it … Zooko or something
