Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

I hate it ;D

Yeah, I’ve seen your Chris and Cap extensions, and you have good coverage forward and up for all your characters. It zones, and it can eat projectiles. Good team is good. Also, since when did you switch it to Chris in front?

Thinking about dropping Hawkeye and replacing him with Spencer with his grapple assist. I still want to play Taskmaster on point, so my team order would be Taskmaster/Spencer/Akuma. Any input would be much appreciated!

That team sounds pretty great

Well I tried Spencer, safe to say he wasn’t the character for me, however I’ve been learning Dorm and loving his style and his dhc options. Like an above poster wrote, it is pretty tricky converting a throw off of a dark hole, but I’ve been just dhcing into flame and getting good damage. I think I’ll be sticking with this team for awhile. Anyone here have any experience with Task+Dorm? Should I be using the hole assist or pillar to help cover the air?

Dark Hole is great, it really augments Tasky’s pressure, and it extends better than people say. Also, the durability occasionally messes with people’s ranged game. Better yet, it acts a lot like a combo breaker assist if used near the end of strings. I recall a Task/Dorm in top 64/Top 32 of evo, check that out and see what you can find.

Hey guys, I am kinda thinking about my secondary team, which is currently Task/Dorm/X-23. She works great, and is most likely the most experienced character on the team, but I also like the idea of a few others on the anchor slot.

So, Task/Dorm/X-23, Task/Dorm/Trish, or Task/Dorm/Ammy? I like all three about evenly as anchor, so the real thing is team synergy. I know some of what’s there for X-23, but am not entirely sure how the DHCs and assists and funstuff would work with the other two. Thoughts, tips?

Of those teams I think Ammy is the best assist for Taskmaster and Dormammu.
But, if you’re best with x23, then I would also consider putting Dorm in the anchor slot instead of x23.

Mebbe. My Ammy’s okay, gets touches of death, but that’s not hard with those sword loops, my Ammy needs work on movement, but I do enjoy her.

And for X-23 second, it does sound good, but I like Task to Dorm TAC stuff. Gotta experiment some.

I’ve been Playing Nova/Task/Sent and really loving it. Nova gets nasty mixups with H arrow assist and drones. Great DHC options. Once nova dies or I decide to throw in task, i basically play a tight zoning game with sent assist, by the time task dies sentinel should have enough meter to finish things up. I love how great task is at building meter.

I just started playing a second team Task/Sent/Phoenix. I love the task/sent cell, it hardly ever comes down to phoenix but shes there.

There’s also combo extensions for Task with Nova/Phoenix and Nova gets hit-confirms with arrows and combo extensions with Drones. Even Sentinel gets an easy 40-50k damage bonus in every combo he does, which means easy ToD’s with the entire team

ive been using modok(beam)/captain america (charging star)/taskmaster (h arrows).

I’m very new to tasky and i usually keep him on anchor. anyone know some interesting tech with this team? I know frutsy plays this team and I’ve always been fond of captain america/modok, i guess ending up at task as anchor kind of just was me coming full circle. i think the order i have is the best order for the team, as i can use task assist to help cap mixups, extend dok combos and task seems the best anchor out of the three.

But that limits my task combo play to just solo bnbs and x factor combos. I have a lot of trouble doing LMH b+H, S, sj L f+H, H, qcf +M hold, land H, b+H, S, sj MHS, super. I guess i’m not doing the super jump light attack after S quick enough, but that is probably just training mode stuff that i need to practice to get the hang of. I always end up being too high in the air for the follow up after the m arrows in air.

Any x factor combos I should know with task? I remember seeing moons doing soemthign like LMHS, sj MHS, land qcf+H no charge, x factor, shield skills into combo but I’m not sure if that’s like opponent specific or what.

2:39 of this video he does it.

If i put task as anchor, is there a way I can optimize damage solo here?

Really with Tasky, especially as anchor and with X-Factor, you are looking to either chip them out, or catch them with a throw/air throw and convert it into Hyper > X factor > Hyper, which hurts really bad. Tasky gets huge damage off throws with meter. You don’t really need to learn X-factor specific combos or anything, as any combo will kill in X-factor, though the timing in his bnb changes and can be hard to pull off normally (at least for me), so just doing a horizontal hyper in the air after the second web swing is usually a safe way to finish anybody off.

If your Tasky is last with no assist and you don’t think chipping and staying away will work, dash in and poke with crouching medium, as its range is really good and can convert into a combo, or try to inch in for a throw. Constant pressure with Shield Skills > Sharp Sting works too. If it doesn’t hit, oh well, it’s pretty safe. If it does, you can quick web swing + diagonal hyper to hit them OTG if you’re not in the corner (downward if you are), and X-factor and do it again if you need to.

As for your other question about team synergy, obviously Cap does a shit ton of damage and Task makes a great DHC off of his shield hyper. Cap also can take advantage of arrows for jumping shield throw pressure or roll mix ups. I have absolutely no idea about MODOK, but I’m sure there are tricky things you can do. Doom also makes a great partner for Cap and Tasky though too, as Hidden Missiles can extend Captain’s supers by OTGing after Cap’s Charging Star hyper into another one, and can help Tasky link two supers in the corner or just chip out with missiles/arrows.

Anyways, a lot of people say Task doesn’t make a good anchor, but he’s not bad and can do a lot of damage. Just don’t be too passive and make them respect your Shield Skills =D

Don’t Super XFC super off throw confirms, due to how scaling works on his super, it does the same super xfc super does the same damage as throw XFC super for 1 less bar. And sometimes you can pick up using 3 arrows off air throws into a full combo

For a XF3 Task bnb try:

Ground string into (f+:h:x2 with slight delay in between them) j :h: xx :m: Arrows(full charge) st:m::h: b+:h: :s: j:m::m: f+:h: j :m: :s:

Does 1.1~mil ish without super or arrow lift in the corner, and converts into his infinite if you are at the corner. Works in XF2 too.

thank you for the advice. i’ve been getting away with just doing derpy damage with him, and i can’t even do the standard relaunch with him, (the one with teh falling m arrows into relaunch) but this character is actually pretty interesting. i’ll keep that x factor combo in mind.

Been thinking of having Dr. Strange as my second for some time. Is there any bnb setups with the Eye assist or Bolt is the go to assist? If anyone has any suggestions that would cool. Thanks in advance.

I like bolts. You can extend with it after a big combo with the assist by calling strange then swinging and doing one arrow fast, then you actually can get two shield skills before sharp sting connects. At the beginning, not sure, but I bet bolts and swing cancels could do some brutal stuff presure-wise. I’m just trying out the pair myself. I’m torn between him and Vergil (two characters I’m kinda just learning) on my Task team, one’s got my favorite assist, and one’s cheap/really good.

I dropped Vergil because I never managed to otg into rapid slash, I am sure you can do it but I never got it to go. I am going to try to see if I can fit that swing during Bolts, I ruled out Eye, I can manage to extend with it also out side of that it’s too slow for pressure

Vergil I usually ended my combos with, did something pretty simple. blahblahblahcomboingblahblah sharp sting, jump and call Virgle, three arrows downward, vergil hits, land, three arrows upward, forward arrows hyper. Simple enough, but it makes for good DHCs, and the arrows pushing them down has you hitting pretty much all the hits of your hyper. There’s probably something better, but I find it is not necessary.

Ok; so i am proud to say that I finally went to a local tourney and supported the commmunity so im no longer just a stream monster or online warrior. I was hella nervous but managed to make it past the first round and lost the other two sets in down to the wire sets. after experiencing these first time tourney jitters i know i could have done alot better if i had more match experience and wasnt so nervous that i dropped my bnb’s. so now i need to start researching matchup knowledge. Since i run a team of Captain America (charging Star), Chris Redfield (gunfire), and Taskmaster (H. Arrows) im asking for insight into the following matchup situations regarding Taskmaster in both situations of being alone and with any of the aforementioned assists:

 1. Wesker - teleporting while covered by beam assists. on incoming after a snap back or character death
 2. Spencer - zipline overhead setup covered with or without an assist. on incoming after a snap back or character death.
 3. Vergil - teleport or rapid slash mixups covered withor without an assist. on incoming after a snap back or character death.
 4. Zero - air dash, lightning loop, gawdlike hitbox (god i so hate this character). on incoming after a snap back or character death.
 5. Frank West - lvl 3 or higher frank west extended range hitbox and that swing around zombie throw move that he does that seems super duper safe. on incoming after a snap back or character death.

i’d ask about Doom but between him and Hulk i know to just fear/respect their foot dive and standing H so i think that will do for now til i get better with learning taskmaster. sorry if i am asking something that i should know already or not making what im asking clear enough as i realize this is a lengthy question that may end up with a lengthy answer. just tryign to get better at the game please and thanks ^_^.

Taskmaster on anchor is kinda rough only due to the fact that he has nothing super great going for yourself. Zoning will not win if they are being lame, and your rush down isn’t as great as the characters you are facing. It’s doable it’s just not his best spot.

Wesker- You have to see his pattern. Try to catch a air throw or just punish something unsafe. Depending on his assist you can snag the assist with air M arrows, and then Wesker is unsafe, not something you can rely on but something to keep in mind. Block alot snap in or not.

Spencer- Don’t push block on snap in. Air throw him if he is zip line happy, reverse super random bionic arms, and stand up for f.H.

Vergil- Learn to block rapid slash and just block alot. I think you can safely chicken block anything dealing with round harvest. Let him waste his bar. Do not air M arrow with out coverage, he gets to teleport for free on that.

Zero- Ya, good luck

Frank West- Try to zone him, he has to come to you. Watch for knee drops, and do not try to challenge anything outside of shield skills and even then somethings don’t get beaten cleanly . Never underestimate his range and his stupid hitbox.

I hope that helps you a bit.
