Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

Soooooooo Im really new to Taskmaster. Picked him up a week ago and doing somewhat decently, but I feel like I need more help from my SRK people.

The team I plan on running is Taskmaster/CaptainAmerica/Strider. Strider keeps people from jumping and running away. Cap helps combo. Taskmaster/Cap has a meter positive combo that does 100% with 2 meters, DHC or not. Cool beans and shit with that, but the problem is that I have trouble maximizing damage using Vajra hard knockdown. I know that you can charging star after a fully charged down arrow, but for some reason I can’t get it off. Is there a special trick?

Also, just an overall judgement of my team would be nice too.

Okay, I need a bit of help. I seem to do terrible at the Trish matchup on my Task/Dorm/Vergil team. I find that Dormammu is pretty strong against trish, but I was wondering if there is a good way for Taskmaster to fight the Trish matchup. Right now I am shooting arrows like crazy, chipping her a decent deal, and playing really lame. She comes above my head for a divekick, I try to have vertical aim of hawkeye happnin’. Opening her up, though, is annoying, I feel I can only pretend to fall for a divekick, dash under, and hit her before she recovers, which is risky as hell, and nonexistent if she is a rushdown Trish with a lockdown assist.

Trish matchup tips?

EDIT:

I’m pretty new with Tasky too, at least in ultimate, but I think that pickup can only work on certain characters, floaty hitboxes, certain weights, that whole deal. I don’t know too much about it, and try to stay away from character-specific stuff, because I always forget when I’m actually hitting someone if they’re the right character.

And your team looks awesome. I’m curious as to how Task would fare if Cap was in the lead, though. Cap’d get some nice coverage/pressure with his roll from arrows assist forward.
And, legitimately curious, what assist do you use with Cap and how do you use it to extend?

Eh sadly the trish match up is just like that. You have to play lame. her dive kick makes it too risky to run underneath unless you pop a hyper to punish. Against her just make sure you use meter very wisely. If you don;t have meter she doesn’t have to respect you at range. One thing to try and do is simply get her on the ground and when you do make sure to lock here down with the assist. You can likely set up the unblockable with dormammu and task. You may just want to reorder your team and have Dorm take her on when you can.

I’ve been doing that, but the thing is my team is new, and all three characters I hadn’t played since vanilla (except for Vergil, he’s newer, but I find he’s ok, because he’s goddamn Vergil), and I want matchup knowledge for Taskmaster. So, my sparring buddy’s alts have a Trish lead. And…yeah, I like getting lead experience, especially because the team seems to have a game plan (Task bnb, 800 something damage, can DHC to Chaotic Flame from Forward Arrow Hyper, kill someone, rapid slash and towers and balls, oh my, chip out character two, and incoming mixups, pop X-factor on hit, hope for the best). When it’s a non-sparring match I’mma switch to Dorm, but for now, just figuring out how to fight her wth Task is my concern, mostly for training purposes.

So, I’ve been trying lockdown and unblockable setups, and they work okay (dark hole’s stun is a bit shorter than I thought, but whatever), but I can’t seem to get a full combo off the unblockable. Off a forward ground throw I’m having slight amounts of trouble too. No assist is fast enough to connect to an immediate 6H+QCFH. Or am I being dumb. Anyone got some knowhow on that?

^^ dark hole and rapid slash MAY actually be too slow for it…the way i time for my team is, F+H + Assist at the same time, then cancel swing into down arrow…but i use spencer…again, i think ur assists just may be too slow…MAYBE rapid slash might work though, but i think ur out of luck for dark hole

From my recent attempts, I think Rapid Slash is too slow too. If nothing else, I can hyper downward into a stalking flare to keep them grounded on wakeup, and then they take the mixup from dorm or they pushblock me into a zoning position.

I might be wrong, but i think you can do THC Task/Dorm from far and when you recover from arrows you can unblockable while the flare holds them…this is a theory…

I bet that would work, but I have Dark Hole assist, so that THC would be chaotic flame. I like the idea of it, but right now my THC is only for absurdly damaging punishes. I don’t have too much tech with THCs, they are a new alt team, and you know, I don’t think I need to. Too many cheap/good characters on one team.

I broke up my original team. so each of them will have their own teams instead. I want to play a Keepaway taskmaster to harras and be annoying to get them open for something.

here’s characters I’ve used / am considering using for task (he’ll be on point)

used:
Haggar, Chris, Strider, Dante, Magneto, Nova, Jill, Spencer, Spidey, Cap

Considering learning
Dormammu
Doom

That said, I’m open to anyone in the roster so long as it helps me be annoying with Taskmaster and FORCE chip damage and mistakes.

Ok thanks… I’ve always been confused to how people did it.

And if Cap was in the lead, it would be good. I wouldn’t have touch of deaths from anywhere on the stage, but I can still do like 900k for 2 meters, 1 million if I were to do Cap’s midscreen bnb into DHC (but thats just midscreen. Unless I find a way to do 800k in the corner Im fucked).

The assist I use for Cap is charging star, mostly because its a soft knockdown and its easier to combo off of. So the combo would looks like this…

cr. L, cr. M, st. H, B+H, S, sj., sj. L, sj. F+H, sj. H xxx aim master M, st. H, B+H, S, sj. MH, F+H, sj. MHS, land, jump, call Cap charging star assist, aim master H (one arrow), B+H xxx Sting master, jump, aim master H (fully charged), Legion arrows L+H

At this point, if I timed it correctly and Im at the right height, I can do TK Legion arrows M+H to kill, or DHC into Hyper Charging Star if I timed it correctly or not.

I would use shield slash, but I can’t get Strider’s assist to combo.

You can use Dark Hole assist to pickup off of Sharp Sting. Someone else recently asked in another thread about a full combo with Dark Hole assist, so here:

c.M-s.H-b+H-QCF+S, jump forward + Dark Hole assist, full charge air H arrows, land, s.M-s.H-Spidey Swing-air M-M-Spidey Swing, air M-M-S, land, b+H-S, sj.M-M-H-Spidey Swing-[TAC or super]. ~511k after TAC (plus whatever next character does), ~684k with super.

CS assist with Cap/Task is crazy good, very under rated, but I would order your team Cap/Task/Strider too. Cap needs the assists more and while strider is awesome, Task can help in other areas. My only concern for this team is Task can’t really capitalize off strider assist besides irritating pressure. The confirms are limited and burn meter.

but good synergy with the team:

Task forward throw/Stingmaster,dash/unblockable, Cap Assist+f.H, qcf+H(1), land, dash, f.H, combo…
Strider assist(hit airborne), Cap SS.L, dash, s.H,S, combo…
Cap s.H+Task assist, roll, c.M, combo/pressure string
Task assist, Cap CS.H

Well, I got a corner combo with Cap and your assists right now in lab (unless you do not use forward arrows and vajra, which would surprise me). Not 800k, but close. Took me a while, but it’s funky and cool. He can actually relaunch with both of the assists, I didn’t expect that.

I’m not sure if this is maximized, I don’t really play Cap, but I got, jump, anti-ground kick, cr. M, cr. H, S, MMH Anti-Ground Kick S, taskmaster and light shield toss, otg, arrows, shield returns, pushes them to the other side (now you are in the corner, and the baddie is not), Launch, MH Anti-Ground Kick S, And there’s a few options. 1. Call Strider and shield, hits them in knockdown, dash nearer to them, shield otg into hyper. 2. Or shield toss, let it pull them back, charging star H (unless you can do more here), hyper. I got 969,500 after DHC for variant one, 775,300 before it. 769k on the variant without strider assist, and I got 967k with DHC (I might’ve done the DHC a bit early on that first one)

Also, starting with the strider assist, here’s another corner combo. jump, anti-ground kick, cr. M, cr. H, S, MMH Anti-Ground Kick S, call strider and wait a long as possible before shield otg, shield hits, strider hits, shield pulls them back, launch, MH Anti-Ground Kick S, OTG Hyper, 751,700 before DHC. And you can always use Task to replace “OTG Hyper” with Call Task arrows, OTG, charging star, Hyper, 765,000 before DHC.

So, decent damage using one or both assists. Damn, I do really like this team.

Also, just found out you can sharp sting, call Strider (I mashed the assist button, cuz I’m a scrub) and jump, at the same time, I believe, and wait pretty long before otg arrows with full charge, it hits them into knockdown again, then arrows and hyper. I kept missing it until I just watched strider the whole time, and arrows right before the kick, then I got it consistently. Sounds obvious, because it probly is, but once again, I am le scrub.

Not sure about all this on differently sized hitboxes and floatyness, all combos done on Phoenix Wright, the first guy I got on random select. Enjoy!

Huh. I usually pick up with rapid slash in the corner. Anywho, I know Dark Hole’s good for all sorts of pickups with Task, but I’m pretty sure forward throws on the ground and the weird sharp-stingish followup to the unblockable is too quick a knockdown for such pickupery.

My current one in the corner was purposely made baby-easy so I could hit it 100% online, c.M s.H 4H QCF+S, Neutral Jump + Rapid slash, Full Charge QCF+H, wait for them to fall, st. H S, MMHS, (that air combo is to let Dormammu get more hits with the assist, it leaves Taskmaster a slight distance away from the corner), Jump and Dark Hole, Full Charge QCF+H, st. H 4H QCF S, jump, Full Charge QCF+H, Arrows Hyper Down. It varies by a tiny bit, but I just got 777,700 (LOL) from it.

Also, DAY-UM, trying that funstuff out right now. Dorm’s next in line, so with his TAC, MH flight, LH Dark Hole L, H Dark hole L, S, tower, chaotic flame, that would be… I can’t seem to do it. Is there specific timing to this shite, because I get up to NEVERMIND, was waiting for the dark hole to end before doing normals, it drops when that happens. 926,900. WOW, I’m so stealing this one. Thanks, Spider-Dan.

The Cap bnb is assist-less, but if thats the only way to get more damage than 700k in the corner (which it is), then I guess I have to use it. Im hitting the lab hard as fuck today and tomorrow. Hopefully I get results. Thanks for your help.

Also what do yall think about Taskmaster/Cap/RocketRaccoon (pendulum)? Probably not as good as Vajra, but I get a hell of an annoying assist that leads to high damage combos.

Gave it thought. How does Taskmaster Vergil Sentinel sound?

I think log beats vajra sometimes. For one thing, seriously messes up dormammu play, and it’s got a lot of projectile durability. Better conversion off a hit with the assist, good extension. That rocks. Careful against guys like Doom or Trish, because I don’t think the shieldyfolk can deal with the matchup too well without vajra. I’m not sold on Rocket as an anchor, but when one of your characters dies, he makes a great DHC for safety and stuff like that. Try it out.

Doesn’t sound too bad, everyone with drones is fun, and Vergil’s rapid slash extends well for tasky, I run it myself. The choice is yours whether to put sentinel second or third, though. Vergil’s a fine anchor, and the DHC to Sentinel is insanely good, but DHC to Vergil is very very safe, and Vergil plus drones is so very crossupy. Your call, any order but a few seems to really work nicely.

I actually have trouble doing OTGs with tasky. mostly I am content to do combos and then force chip, I figure Drones will allow me to do so with Rapid slash making them get away more. but I figure I should be able to finally get that down with Vergil’s assist

Decided to go Taskmaster Sentinel Vergil I’m totally digging being able to just throw shit everywhere either with Taskmaster or with Sent on point. Same with being able to step in at any time with Taskmaster.

I like that. I’m a crappy new Vergil meself, so I throw him in back because X-factor means I don’t have to learn combos. Lol. But Vergil does have the coolest assist for zoning, because on hit or block is pushes them fullscreen. And that might work out well with Sentinel beams/drones/bombs/stuff. Tell me how that works out, I’m curious myself.
