I think Ken actually ducks when he lands from that Ultra, so yeah, it would whiff. Don’t ever use that against Guile…all FK’s end with him crouching.

So I hear Claw can punish Blanka balls with a c.hk. That means we can probably punish with ex spire or possibly even ultra 2. :smiley:

I am looking forward to a full write up…confirmation from a dedicated Hawker is already overdue. Really interested to hear how changes are effective (or not) and for any changes not mentioned. Would also like a few points on who seems to come out well from the changes in general - first impressions of course.

Yeah, a couple things that would be worth testing right away:

  1. Does cs.MP still whiff on half the cast if they are in hitstun from jumping Heavy atacks?
  2. How good the Ultra 2 buffs are, is it 1-frame like Gen’s Crane Super/Ultra 1? Or will the hitbox buff catch people at lower heights at least?
  3. LP Spire’s hitbox/meter-gain, much better or hardly noticeable?

Just read this myself. I think his opinion carries some weight without question, but here’s hoping for a J Wong vs Adon moment in some tournament along the way. I personally don’t think both can be discounted just yet - especially Hakan who got buffed through the roof.

I think Hawk might be a worse match for Yun and Yang than Diago thinks - health advantage and damage output will help balance it somewhat

In other parts of that interview, he seems really concerned by Gief - lariat is going to really hurt those new boys.

I’m typing on a blackberry in an area that has bad reception so I can’t write much. The competition is tough here and I’m having a bad playing day so I’m afraid I can’t give the best input games are $1.00 and there’s no practicing.

Spire meter gain is not as great as I had hoped. I know that’s subjective but if I had to guess on how much metetr the old spire gained I would say it was 3 and the new is 5 (out of 100). It does add up over the round of course but I was hoping to see a big chunk of blue bar.

LP spire … The hitbox change is noticeable , it’s effectiveness is I can’t say, will need more time. The startup and invinc are definitely NOT improved.

U2 is 100% (*edit- 75% better) better. Starts up faster and the hitbox goes past his frame in the air.

St roundhouse is much harder to counter but I almost want to say the damage is nerfed…I’. Not sure though

St far FP hits crouching opponents Cody in this case.(*EDIT - Does NOT hit cr opponents)

I haven’t ben able to test close HK (isn’t that a surprise)

Yun seems to give Hawk trouble

EX dive is just like the old EX same recovery (*maybe not, keep reading) and speed

Thanks for the input so far. On Cody s.hp whiffed so maybe a hitbox improvement. I like the sound of far hk and lp spire hitbox being noticeable. The U2 vastly improved bit is also nice. Any joy on close mp, cross up pushback, throw ranges/damage? EX Dive good or no good - you seem a bit meh about it?

Which characters seem better and which seem worse overall?

Sorry guys far st FP isn’t any different my mistake. I’m not sure what ā€œgrows strong determinationā€ was about in those rumor change list. Maybe it’s close fp? I haven’t tested

I cnn say the Dhalsim matchup still sucks big time (at least against Towner)

Yun/yang palm is realllly good. Its active frames are ridiculous.

Ultradavid just tweeted this from super arcade. I’ll admit it sounds pretty nice

Hawk: ex dive way faster, puts him at old blanka ball distance or more so safe on lots of chars. U2 def faster, recovers faster too

Shortly aftter i made those posts we left Super arcade (btw i dont like their sticks and their monitors are beyond laggy, like wow) and it was getting packed anyway, sorry no more details yet. However wonder chef recorded a ton of video so I should have some footage of me playing horribly but at least you might see our new Hawk.

I should have some more time with him either tomorrow or Sunday.

I’m not sure what Ultradavid is saying about ex dive being fast(er) it’s the same speed as when you do a canceled ex dive now.

I think Ultradavid is comparing it to normal dive. Here is a shopping list for you.

Thrust Peak - any changes?
Please confirm if EX dive has safer bounceback on block like U’David said?
Try 3 x c.lp into lp spd for extra range?
It may mean you get offed but try all the Tomahawks as AA to see if any invincibility has been added or removed (please no).
c.hp as an AA - still a trade machine or more priority?
Close mp on crouching opponents changed on small hitboxes?
Cross up pushback any different?
Instant jump back lp xx ex dive - does it cancel more easily and is it an instant overhead?
Does c.lp, slp, s.lp, slk xx lp spire now reach opponents on block because of changed hitbox?

I’m pretty certain they left his lp spd was range alone. if they buffed it, I think it would have been mentioned, because that’s somewhat major. the development blog also stated that he recieved no nerfs, so I doubt they removed any HP/EX DP invincibility.

man, I wish they would have done something with his DP. how nice would it be to have a real DP without bar on wake up?

also, did anyone notice they are apparently trying to make T.hawk more attractive as a grappler superficially, by destroying Geif’s EXGH? the move used to be like EXCS, only better, but now it doesn’t knockdown, giving EXCS (and thus T.hawk) an advantage over gief where he previously didn’t have one.

This next one shows that st.hp will connect on a crouching Cody, not sure if it would before but I know it didn’t on some characters. It also shows the new EX Dive getting beaten cleanly by Cody’ Ruffian Kick. :frowning:

Next one shows Ultra 2 at about 35 seconds in. I’m not sure if the non-buffed Ultra 2 would have caught that or not, it looked borderline. And right after that it shows the bounce back from a blocked EX Dive.
