T.HAWK @ SSFIV Arcade Version

Yang, Yun’s Palm move in SSF4 AE classified as projectile : News : EventHubs.com

What’s up T.Hawk forums!

So for the past few days, I’ve been playing exclusively T.Hawk against some of the regular Chinatown Fair guys (Chris Hu, Autodemon, Adnan etc.). I had at least 12 win streak against lame, turtly style players and I could honestly say that T.Hawk is more than a viable character to play in Arcade Edition so look forward to playing him if AE is available near you or if you are awaiting the DLC.

Because I was going to nearly dedicate myself to playing T.Hawk pre-SSF4 and figured out that he has a major weakness in his game (getting ran away from all match) I decided to stick with my mains and wait until AE release.

Characters like Akuma and Ryu have such a hard time against T.Hawk when in the corner because they can’t escape tatsumaki out of the corner anymore so they are forced to fight like every other character now. Akuma has to play solid footsies to keep Hawk at bay and Hawk has tools for that. He can’t demon flip or jump because of the new and improved ultra 2. Grabs ANYTHING considered airborne, from backdashes to any ground level moves that are considered airborne.

His new EX Condor Dive is good for baiting projectile characters when you jump backward. It’s like a hidden move because people forget that he has that as an option now when he jumps back and it’s safe on block from most of the cast moves with the exception of some ultras. As for the “glitch” when Hawk doesn’t bounce away on opponent’s block, it’s not a glitch it’s meant to be like that when you aim for the opponent’s lower body. It’s a scary situation for the opponent to be because if you manage to land a blocked EX Condor Dive, it puts the enemy in so much block stun the one thing that they are going to want to do when the get out is to jump back or backdash. That’s where ultra 2 comes in handy. It’s a great guessing situation for T.Hawk to have and gives a new fun factor to the character without him being scrubby.

1 thing that I admire about T.Hawk is the fact that he has to work hard to get in the match and continuously net wins with. Again it’s not as hard as Super to get in because of EX Dive, but you still have to work with him and opponents will never complain about the character being “cheap” because they see that you have to work. It’s just that now you can’t run away from Hawk the whole match anymore, when or if he gets you in the corner it could or should be over.

There are A LOT of things that I don’t know about T.Hawk and will continue to play him as a side character, but if anyone that does not have availability to AE wants me to test out anything, just give a post on the thread I’ll try to check it at least once everyday.

Thanks for the info dieminion. Good to know that Hawk is getting better!

BTW, I’m hoping to see you at MAT and get some games in with you since I didn’t make it out to Nemesis!

Good news indeed. Thanks for the update. I will be checking him out at Arcade UFO in a couple weeks. I’ll also test anything out that people want to know about.

sorry if this has been answered already but recently i saw some japanese vids of ae and a hawk player did two st.mp’s into dp. i’m pretty sure u can’t do this in super so is this new?

You can do it in Super. Nothing new.

Sounds excellent! Looking forward to playing the new Hawk!

I don’t really fight Akuma’s that often ( i heard he is a nightmare for Hawk), but couldn’t he just teleport out of the corner?

^ You can OS spire to beat teleport. Or just bait it and jump back

So is it confirmed that Ultra 2 will catch backdashes now?

First off, thanks for the write-up Di3mini0n!

If you get a chance to test some stuff out, I’m wondering if T. Hawk’s Tomahawk Buster (SRK) can be FADC’d. Also, are you able to land U2 off of EX Condor Spire (Backward SRK)? My dreams will have been made reality if both of those are true.

Thanks again!

These have both been confirmed as a big “NO” already. Sorry to disappoint.

Also if you have koomz in the corner, you can just stand and play footsies with the threat of U2 and if he teleports just jump back.

Is close jab * 2 -> strong Tomahawk Buster still character-specific, or does it work on smaller characters, like Ryu, in AE?

Well Arcadia has some preliminary tier listings and things are not looking too good for Hawk. in fact, Hawk is at the bottom of the barrel!

Now of course this is still too early to really tell, and I don’t give a fuck if Hawk is trash tier or not, I am still sticking with him regardless. But I can honestly say this is the first character I’ve ever liked in a fighting game that was Dan tier (if this ends up being legitimate, and the only way we’ll know that is with time).

what i like to know is if his tomahawk is improved or not?
does it anti air better now?
and is his cr hp better as anti air?

The list I saw just grouped them in to a class level and then listed them in alphabetical order. Yes he was in the bottom group, which was only C which is not terrible. But the only reason his name was last is because of the alphabet not his ranking within that class. He will probably be near the top of that C class most likely. They just didn’t give that great detail.

I think Hawk will be around mid tier since his worst matchups got better and he got straight buffs. If not, I’m learning a new character. I want to win money this year and if Hawk is still ass, he’ll be my counterpick character.

yo ex dive does so much DAMAGE, its awesome. oh and backdash spd is great for dealing with yun pressure. yun feels pretty free for hawk. oh and because palm counts as a projectile, ex dive will always beat palm clean. loving ae hawk.

Shoryuken - SSF4 Arcade Edition Change Notes on Blanka, Abel, Gen, Makoto, Dee Jay, and T Hawk

So apparently something about standing jab was changed in AE.
