Naw, I am just saying they would have done better for themselves having that yo yo expert come in and asphyxiate himself and audience members with yo yo strings. Speaking about irrelevant stuff my nigga, you remember when this guy was on the news, shit was hilarious.
Yeah, I mean stuff like that doesn’t happen all the time already, right? I mean, are you serious? Do we see similar results? No. Let’s not act like Islam and Christianity were founded on similar principles or that the people by and large act the same. I see people dying daily from Islamic based attacks. I don’t see something like this from Christians. There’s no comparison in terms of violence.
the problem I have with Islam in a lot of countries, is that it seems like it is a dictatorship in the guise of religion.
“you have to do this or God will want me to fuck you up”
simply put, as HUMAN BEINGS we need to put a stop to shit like this. Headbutting people in the name of Mohammed is equivalent to killing Jews in the name of Christ
Man, all this talk about offending harbingers of peace makes me want to HURT SOMEBODY
I go to church every sunday, and I’ll cut your throat if you draw god in capris and a halter top
Praise be to the lord, without whom, I would not have an excuse to assault somebody
I hear God is pretty drawable even though he’s a non-physical entity. (I guess we’ve got to blame renaissance artists)
Anything is drawable when you’re trying to offend
that’s the beauty of it
I can make god look like a 4 foot tall hermaphrodite with a hippo head
can you prove that god does not look like that?
Well, here come the headbutts
Alls i can say is that guy had some balls to project an image like that to an audience composed of Muslims.
Dude, if this video was non-religious related then you would actually understand what people are trying to explain. We understand the greatness of freedom of speech, however if you do offend some one you should be ready for a reaction. It doesn’t matter if it was a political cartoon of a religious figure. The only reason why you are on your own stance is because the issue is about a religious figure and you just using your religious prejudice and pretending as if the cartoonist was innocent.
Sure, it was wrong the way they reacted however the one who is to blame is actually the presenter. What kind of idiot would post something like that to an Islamic crowd? What happens if some white guy went into a black panther party and did some racial cartoon about black people? The whole thing is similar. Freedom of Speech does have it’s limits, sometimes some people need to watch what they do or they will get their asses handed for it. Common sense.
Right, because you know exactly how Weeks feels about a complicated issue like that.
Someone who was doing a presentation on artistic freedom.
No it isn’t, maybe if the white guy was doing a presentation about dealing with racism and freedom of speech it would be similar.
lol i read weeks argumnents and it sounds like he’s more annoyed at the wasted potential treasure trove of material for southpark than the erosion of freedom of speech!
if you refuse to respect people, then you can’t be surprised when people choose not to respect you back, with a headbutt in this instance.
personally i dont think its worth getting heated over such things, but i dont expect other people to think the way i do.
seriously, that’s the message it sends.
'don’t like how we treat your religious figure? just step yo violence game up and we’ll cave. that’s what works.
jesus christ. are people forgetting this guy was giving a presentation on artistic freedom? hes using those images as examples of expression that go way beyond what is normally acceptable. also it’s not like he put out an add:
"are you muslim? come to my presentation where im going to draw brown-jesus doing immoral things, SUCK IT!"
these people willingly sought his lecture out and got past the screeners with the sole purpose of disrupting his lecture and causing havoc, with the end goal being stopping the presentation.
kudos to the artist.
Well, I was gonna say something about free speech, but I don’t feel like getting killed today for hurting anyone’ s feelings.
Wait a minute…
Ya, i remember encountering some thing like that. The reaction was silent… we just kept it in. No one even walked out, but just sat there in disgust. However, i do know a christian would get this reaction if the drawing was done towards a loved one or something, i think this is how equal muslim sensitivity is. Christianity being a violent religion back then isn’t due to actual religion/biblical teachings, because the Bible wasn’t a book that any body could just own during the dark ages. The dark and violent ages of Christianity is just due to the corruption of power of the people running the church.
Ya, i understand what you and weeks are saying now. I’ve just finished the whole article, i don’t think the guy was just presenting a bunch of works but it was just a lesson to show artistic freedom. So ya, reacting like that to a guy who was just presenting examples and not flexing his views is wrong.
Edit: I do think the guy should have reviewed his presentation the moment he saw his audience. Because it is common knowledge that your ass can get killed if you piss them off.
But on the other hand you could say what the hell were the members of the audience likely to get pissed off doing there in the first place, they knew who he was and why he was there, sounds almost like they were just there to cause trouble in the first place.
Look kid, go re-read my post and stop coming off as a douche. See how I made a difference between doing this here an doing it in Malaysia (should’ve said Indonesia; thanks to Augmint for the correction), its in that third paragraph. It is not socially acceptable in the United States to resolve social problems with violence. In the long run it leads to a lot of problems. If you are in a place where they roll like that, say a Yanomamo village, then you should understand that things work different. There is a difference between accepting the consequences of your action (which the cartoonist understood once he released the cartoon; radicals were not gonna be happy and he has a target hanging) and taking the violence inflicted on him as an acceptable way of resolving things.
People are gonna get uppity and angry over things that were said. Hell, I get uppity and angry over a lot of the earnestly stupid shit people say in GD. But, because of where I live, it is in no way shape or form acceptable to resolve it with violence. Any person who has ever had a opinion that was different from the popular one at the time was looking for trouble in some way. Get it through YOUR thick skull that the person who is actually in the wrong in this case, was the headbutter because he committed the culturally unacceptable act. Remember, he was in Sweden and Sweden does not roll with being violent to people to solve issues. If the cartoonist was in a place like that, it would be free game.
Really, the real world? This world is full of stupid people making decisions, people in power doing jacked up shit that benefits only a few and a bunch of other random shenanigans down the line. Last thing we need is a bunch of people trying to kill each other because they cannot resolve things without violence.
“Sure it’s your every right to get in my face and call me a slanty eyed gook, but it’s also my every natural reaction to put my foot in your mouth. No amount of laws or authoritative figure is gonna tell me otherwise.” If your first reaction to something is violence, then you have the problem. Besides, outlawing certain behaviors just leads to actual violence; like you know, that drug prohibition that is working out really well.
fuck that. they knew what was going to be presented and came anyway, getting angry is their fault, not the artists. if he edited or changed his presentation in any way it would be going against the very thing he was fighting for.
my point: all religions have nut jobs, but certain religions preach an unflinching and extreme reaction to seemingly mundane things, islam is ONE of those religions. depicting the prophet mohammad is strictly forbidden under any circumstances (correct me if im wrong) and this kind of teaching drives retarded mouth-breathing meat heads to take matters into their own hands because “its god’s will”.
im honestly amazed at some of the people in this thread…@_@
“don’t talk about my moma or ill bust you in your lip” talkin’ douche bags.
This thread needs more Yujiro.
Yujiro Hanma for President:pray:. He’d show you how to handle hecklers who dont agree with your opinions.
Ok, so someone just randomly talks shit about your momma for no reason other than to cause trouble, and they aren’t a douche bag? In my opinion, the trash talker is a douche. What about if you smacked him for that? That’s a different story. I wouldn’t punch someone talking trash at all, but I won’t be surprised if there was a headbutt comming from my hypothetical brother if it happens.
