Swedish Cartoonist Who Drew "Muhammad" Assaulted

@iduno

It’s not childish because, unfortunately, it is necessary. Unless something sacred is defended actively it WILL get torn apart, as we have seen happen to Jesus (p.b.u.h.). The only reason Mohammed (p.b.u.h.) hasn’t become the subject of widespread parody is because we’re ready to defend him. Jesus (p.b.u.h.) is less a figure of respect now and more of a cartoon, and I’m sorry to say that’s simply because Christians on the whole do not respect him enough and are not willing to stand up for what they believe in.

The way I see it, if you don’t believe in something, let it be. Don’t involve yourself by trying to deface it in this way, otherwise you’re the one making it your business. Like I said, there are acceptable ways to criticise Islam and there are many debates that happen in public and in private. You can say what you think. There is no restriction on that and we’re not trying to place a restriction on that. However, there are things we ask you not to do out of common courtesy and respect. If we are to live together in a multicultural society, there are things we BOTH have to accept.

For example, did you know that, in Islam, a man is allowed to marry up to four women provided he can support all four equally and comfortably, with the same attention payed to all? Unless, of course, the law of the land says otherwise, in which case it becomes automatically forbidden by Islamic law in that circumstance. This is just one of many examples of things that Muslims readily accept to fit into the society they live in. WE make concessions because you ask it of us. Why can’t the same be said for you? It’s not like we’re asking a lot. Why can’t this one thing be sacred? Lord knows nothing else is.

@ Crayz Penguin

I’m not even going to bother with you.

i don’t think the concept of jesus is a joke, and im not christian. if people are pressing your buttons by satirizing your religious figure they are pressing your buttons on a level you may not understand.
when people ask why i don’t get angry at (insert derogatory slur) i simply say because they’re trying to push buttons that don’t exist.

you can claim that you’re defending his image so that it’s never tarnished and remains holy, but to whom is that important? its certainly not important for non-believers, and believers already ‘know’ that their prophet is true, holy, good, etc…
you’re really using some ass backwards logic here. what you’re saying is your religion has the need to zealously uphold this image of holiness in your own eyes, which to me indicates a very strong lack of belief in the first place. if you KNEW your prophet to be holy then you would simply pity all those who satirize his good name, because after all, they won’t be bathing with 10,000 virgins but instead in a pool of hellfire. this concept of trying to help the less fortunate is completely lost here (and in most religions), so trying to justify anything other than wanting to help non-believers is fucking ridiculous.

my belief in an 'afterlife (for lack of a better term) doesn’t require me to attack or yell at anyone trying to satirize my philosophy. i simply explain my position and if they don’t believe me fine, we can still be friends. if you try to insult my beliefs we cant be friends but i wont headbutt you during a lecture on artistic freedom.

I love it when people embarrass themselves:coffee:

It’s nothing to do with lack of faith or insecurity. It’s preserving the image of Islam and of the prophet (p.b.u.h.) for the benefit of future generations. When you attack this image, you are attacking the future of Islam and its future believers by dwindling the respect for it. That’s why we have a ‘zero tolerance’ policy toward this kind of attack, because it DOES harm us and our future. If we let up even a little, then that’s just the start of a slippery slope that will end in what’s happened to the Christians of today.

but cant you see how that statement itself makes no sense.
you don’t see christians satirizing jesus, and you don’t see non-believers handing down christianity to their children. the only people passing the religion down are the followers of that faith, so this need to stop EVERYONE from satarizing the prophet doesn’t make any sense. his image will still be intact within that religion, regardless of how much BS everyone else puts out there.

good stuff here. didn’t think i would see someone reference superman being part of the effort to slow/shut down/bamboozle the KKK.

Even with all the hate, there’s still a little bit of love.

I’m not going against his freedom of speech, what i’m saying is that it is dangerous to do it to a muslim audience. His freedom of speech is of his own right, i’m not arguing with that. However, it is dumb to do that to muslims. There is even a christian/muslim debate in the past where a bunch of muslims stormed on stage and stabbed on of the accompanies of the opposition. I’m not saying muslims are like that generally, i do know they are pasted with a stereotype. However allot of conservative Muslim males really do resort to violence.

To some it is the same thing. You start dissing my God and i take that as you dissing me, my country, whatever. So yes i can conflate race with religion because the type of insult feedback is nothing different.

He was invited to speak at the University in Uppsala where the lecture took place.
Are you trying to say Muslims should be allowed to dictate what lectures take place at a University trough Violence ?

Stand up in what way? I do see allot of anti-christian stuff on the media that i find offending, but in reality we just have to ignore it. The commandments given from Jesus to the Christians was to actually give love to your enemy, that was the commandment in showing that you believe in him. Violence has always been known as offending the image of God rather than defending it. While i do think it is just for a christian to strike back after being struck, in reality, it is forbidden to us. It’s not directly followed though.

Did you read my earlier posts because i’ve talked about this? As i said, we are all aware that the muslims came there to cause trouble. The man didn’t do anything intentionally wrong. However, what he did was stupid because it was dangerous. I’m saying that if i was the presenter, i would seriously edit out the picture before it is project because i know i’ll get attacked by a bunch of Punks.

I realize what I said sounds contradictory, but I can’t say I feel bad about that when talking about this religion specifically. What I meant was I could tolerate religious decisions now because they’ve evolved. However, we have one religion that still is barbaric and oppressive. So that I can’t stomach at all…

If the faith is soooooo weak that it cannot stand up to ridicule, it isn’t worth preserving.

Look at Dr. B. People make fun of him all the time and he doesn’t destroy us with his Omega B-Vision.

What ?
You think he should have censored a work shown during a lecture on artistic freedom.
That is just plain retarded.
At that point it’s no longer a lecture on artistic freedom.
Furthermore it was not his work being shown.

It’s using Violence and Fear to achieve political agendas.
Terrorism in it’s purest form.
And you should never give in to the demands of terrorists.

It is not necessary, it just makes you look bad.

Unless islam somehow takes over the entire world, there will be people who will satireise and mock it along with everything else, you cannot stop it and the only affect violence has on it is making you and by association, the group you are “doing this for” look like violent thugs who lack the composure to make your point with words and have to resort to violence instead, turning more people against your cause.

Sure, go ahead try and defend mohammed with your fists, if that is what you truely believe is needed then the bad press received for it and the possible reaction will only be what you deserve, since civilisation generaly doesn’t tolerate that ****.

If he never wanted to get physically hurt, then ya, It would have been safe for him if he did edit it out and just reserve it for a different audience. That isn’t retarded dumb ass. Unless that guy was being brave and just standing his ground or just completely off guard and thought of the crowd to be better than that, bottom line is that it is very health risky to depict anything Islam infront of Muslims.

dude, stop posting. your “a little violence is acceptable” argument is fucking stupid.

Ohhh… you people!

Yeah, it’s weird.

I’m all for arguing that Muslims aren’t violent brutes, but going “Islam is a peaceful religion” and then going “Well, that Swedish dude had it coming” are not good points to put side by side.

Just saying.

umm caring what non-muslims have to say about islam amogst themselves is the essence of insecurity. your whole viewpoint is skewed and stupid.

“what happened to christianity?”…people still go to church and believe in god, people are still getting “saved” and missionaries are still up and about doing charitable work around the world. the only thing that “happened” to christianity" is that, in general, christians aren’t embracing ideals which naturally lead to religious zealotry…whereas muslims, like yourself, do.
