Supergun + arcade CPS2 Super Street Fighter II Turbo

There’s quite a few resources online as well as the first few pages had all the pieces listed as well. do a little search. I opted to do the lazy way and purchase one, didn’t have to do the labour myself and didn’t cost that much more.

What’s the typical price for a Supergun, i got one awhile back forgot how much i paid for it…

Does anyone have suggestions for decent enclosures? I was going to go the cardboard box route but I invested more time than expected to the project so I might as well do something nice for the enclosure. I was trying to find a 12"x12"x3" project box because I want it to fit the vid encoder, PSU, and 2x FGWconverters decently and not be too cramped since this is the first time I’ve done something like this, but I’ve had no luck finding anything that big. I’d like to minimize cost as well if at all possible.

Going the cardboard box route, TE-stick (and printer paper) boxes seem to have just the right dimensions to hold the CPS-2 as well as the other goodies. For something super-sturdy, you could look at Pelican or SKB cases.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ve got a cardboard box with ties for now as a temp solution. I’ve been looking at enclosures on digikey lately so I may grab one from them.

What does everyone do as far as audio goes? I tried running the audio output from the cps2 a board directly into my monitor but it was pretty quiet, much softer than anything else I try on that monitor.

The RCA’s should work fine off the A-board direct to a monitor but the amplifier’s built into them are usually garbage. The best and cheapest way is to use a set of PC speakers (logitec or whatever). Plug the RCA’s directly into the PC speakers using a Stereo RCA (red/white) to 1/8" headphone jack cable. Or if you have a home theater receiver setup, just use that.
There are a million options and Cps-2 is very good once you get it setup properly.

Edit: Also, if you’re lucky enough to find a Capcom Q-sound amp you could incorporate that into the supergun and use some nice HT speakers. Would take a little work with the wiring, but is totally worth it. I had a setup like that a few years ago and it was pretty sweet.

Here ya go! Break out that wallet!

Awesome, thanks for the info. And yeah the audio from my monitor isn’t the best, but the cps2 was noticeably lower than when I run my 360 into the same monitor, for example. That amp would be pretty sweet, but I may just grab a pair of PC speakers as per your suggestion for times when I take it out to tournaments and what not. The enclosure I picked up for it already sadly doesn’t have much more room for anything at all really so more circuitry/wiring may be out of the question.

Have you tried fiddling with the volume buttons on the CPS-2?

Yeah, I checked the test menu and it was almost all the way up, IIRC (I want to say about 80%). It’s all taken apart for the time being since I’m working on an enclosure but I’ll double check it once it’s back together.

dam those qsound amps are tempting, (although there seems to be some difference of opinion on there actual benefit, if any over a regular amp)

would that be an easy install into a cab? my sigma av7000 has a headphone jack I use for sound, wouldn’t mind stereo in my candy cab though.

also, i have a grey ST, today the fan started cutting out and coming back on… anyone have that problem? maybe a fucked fan? pretty sure my green ST never does that…

The fan is part of the A-board and they are a dime a dozen. Is it an all-in-one a/b board combo? If so you can just yank the fan out of a working A-board and replace it.

As much as they may be quality stereo amps, the actual Q-Sound processing takes place inside the A Board, so any quality amp should make it sound great.

The ST cart doesn’t have the fan in it. It’s the A Board that has the fan. Replace it with a 60 x 60 x 15mm fan that runs on 12V.

There is no combo board of ST and the CPS2 games that are combos don’t have fans.

Dont listen to Stevetren, no need to cannibalize other boards

my bad, grey a & bs, i tend to think of them as 1 board since i hardly ever switch a’s since all my b’s have their own mobo.

ah cheers, i’l hunt down a fan…

since i have some cps2 brains here one last thing, have any of you guys seen the error “work ram ng” on startup? i have a blue SFA3 which won’t boot and only shows that line. when i received it i plugged it in, got that error, tried switching around mobos, got it working once, turned it off, came back and back to the error shit without even touching the board… anyone had any experience with this? fixable?

Never seen it personally, but my guess is that if you got it to boot properly once, it might just be a loose chip. Typically arcade PCBs (CPS2 B boards included) have many socket chips. Whenever things are acting flaky, a good first step is to “re-seat” all the socketed chips:

  • Pop open your B board case.
  • Start on one end of the board and lightly pry up one end of a chip (I typically use a butter knife: thin, wide, not likely to kill anyone) and then the other side, all around the board.
  • Firmly press all the chips back down, one at a time, so they are “seated” in their sockets.

If that doesn’t fix it, that’s beyond my expertise. Might require an e-mail to Razoola.

ok thanks, i’l try reseating the chips/eproms.

if your work ram is no good, i can try reprogramming the chips for. i have the means to do it and also the means to phoenix the board which doesn’t sound necessary if your board is even trying to boot. pm me. ill do it for free…just pay for shipping to and from me in NJ

hey thanks for the offer but i have a couple hookups for having the roms reprogrammed, the nearest one’s eeprom programmer is being sent back to china since it broke but shouldn’t be too long, prob just wait for him since i’m in new zealand and the shipping would be killer even for a small box, he didn’t sound very confident like that would fix it, but worth a try. i’ve also contacted a dude in aussie whos had tons of cps2 boards, and hasn’t seen the error.

does anyone know where i can get an already assembled supergun?
ive tried making my own but it just gets too messy and confusing.
