Supergun + arcade CPS2 Super Street Fighter II Turbo

pm toodles here on srk, his converter is only $15 a piece (you need to assemble yourself, but it’s poc)

also tell toodles you’re interested in the button remapping function. he said if enough damand he’ll do it in a weekend.

I just got a reply from toodles. I’ll just wait for him to finish the button remapping function to buy them…

As long as there’s no soldering involved in the assembly (I know his cthulhus don’t need any) I should be fine. (I’ve never soldered anything in my life… nor do I own a solder gun)

When he finishes the button remapping function I’ll start making my purchases (easier on my wallet, I got too excited about a handful of things and went over my budget a few days ago xD)

My Personal Supergun Shopping List

Spoiler

My personal shopping list (in the order I plan to purchase them:

-2 x Toodles converter / Laugh converter if he takes too long (hopefully they’ll be in stock still)
-MCCthulhu/Universal PCB x2 + detachable chords for my sticks
-jojoultimate supergun (I don’t mind artifacts for now, so i’ll skip the sync cleaner for now)
-Bootleg PCB (comes with kick harness, and will hold me down while I save up for legit pcbs)
-CPS2 Board A (If the boot I buy doesn’t include it)
-Super Turbo --Phoenixed (I’ll probably forget to change the suicide batteries at one point or another)
-Alpha/Zero 2 (How do I tell if it’s a boot?)
-At least 1 game from the Vs series
-Sync Converter
-Neo Geo motherboard
-Samurai Shodown 2 (are there many neo geo boots around? what should I be aware of here?)
-Samurai Shodown 4
-Metal Slug 6
-MVS - Jamma converter (Is this even neccessary? the connections are similar but will it damage anything if a converter is not used? I’ve read conflicting answers from stuff I’ve come across online)

(I have everything I need to play super turbo by the time I get there … right?)

TE Stick boxes turn out to be a very convenient size for CPS-2 setups:

FGWidget Converters require soldering for assembly and installation.

I’ve searched FG widget and FGWidget and came up with no results on the search bar on top. I came up with the lizard lick page as well as Quick FGWidget Question after searching on google…

Is there an official thread somewhere? (I went through a couple of pages of tech talk with no luck)

I’d like to see the instructions. If most of it doesn’t require soldering then I guess I could pay a repair place $10 or something to do it for me.

search FG widget there

MCCthulhu, FG widget, Sync Converter all require soldering. if you can get someone to do that for you for $10 it’s all good. DIY isn’t that difficult. it’s kinda fun if you have a little time on your hands.

I’m pretty sure the MCCthulu doesn’t require soldering, or there’s a version that doesn’t (with screw terminals? – Maybe i’m confusing it with something else.). I’ve been eyeballing that mod for my TE for a while, with the RJ25 jacks

I might try it. I just found an “instructables” page on how to solder and there’s a section on how to do circuit boards too. It shouldn’t be too bad I guess… heh.

I’ve got everything I need now. Thanks papasi. I’m going for the FGWidget even if he doesn’t do the button mapping soon (@ 15? compared to 50? it’s a no brainer --He said he’d upgrade the software when he releases it too I just have to pay for shipping to him and back) but i’m gonna wait it out a bit first… Don’t wanna go through that hassle if I don’t have to…

Did he first mention he was going to do button mapping on that cthulhu thread? I guess I’ll have to subscribe to that thread to know when he gets it done.

there are screw terminals on MC, but to dual mod / connect to your Xbox360 chip, you still need to solder wires to the 360 chip. It’s not that hard if you have half day set aside to work on it.
Get the 15w $9.99 soldering iron from radioshack, it’s good enough. And if you need wire stripper, get those automated self-adjusting ones, much much easier…

He only talked about it in PM, you can post a reply on that thread to remind him, and ask him to update first post when it’s done.

I’ve just got a supergun, but I only have 1 Jamma stick right now but I have 2 namco sticks. Is there an issue with lag with Jamma -> PSX converters? And what ones can people recommend?

There’s no real lag issue. If you have a NeoGeo style set-up than the ‘laugh’ converters at http://www.etokki.com/ . Toodles’ FGWidget converter (you can find his thread in tech talk requires more assembly - including soldering - and doesn’t have button mapping, but it’s less expensive.

Cool, thanks man! I’ll see if I can find a place that ships to the UK. Playing ST against the CPU is getting a bit old :stuck_out_tongue:

Button mapping now available for Toodles’ FGWidget Converter!!!

I’m so glad I waited to make this purchase!

FYI, I started a thread on my consolized CPS2 progress

That’s pretty damn awesome.

what the bump…

Very nice sir. I’m wondering if this will allow button setups like a standard console. I’m guessing prolly not and not very important either.

I just purchased everything I need for my supergun setup minus the A board, (still waiting a bit longer for JUST a B board of SSFIIX to show up on ebay (without A board) before buying that bootleg)

Now it’s just a waiting game for all my orders to arrive (and hope none get lost/damaged cuz I’m too cheap to purchase with insurance)

Why buy original? / Why wait for boot? (not an anti piracy rant)

Spoiler

It has nothing to do with being anti piracy, I think i’ve paid my dues by purchasing various incarnations of imperfect and “perfect” arcade ports. (HDR included) As well, I’d be purchasing the game used, so no money would be going to capcom anyway, just to the second market seller.

I also have no problem admitting to buying a boot, and being cheap, but because it’s a multi game boot, It’s actually priced so that it’s cheaper for me to buy the original B board without the A

If I buy the original board with an A board then both would cost about the same and I don’t plan on playing the other games… So I might as well opt for the multigame over the Original board w/ A. As I don’t need a second A-board , and If i bring the thing to casual meetings other people can browse through the other games as well…

I still do *eventually * plan on buying the original if I don’t get that first since I hear the multigame board has a pretty high failure rate. (maybe has something todo with cramming 18 games onto “original” cps2 hardware)

There’s a mexican who has a SSF2X board WITH A board included, he’s relisted a few times, and i’ve messaged him a few times. He refuses to relist with only the b board for cheaper. which is odd since he sells A boards seperately, and other games without A boards as well…

I asked him about it, he says he would charge me the same price as if it had an A board, what the hell…

After I get everything I just have to mod my sticks with the MC Cthulus I ordered and i’m all set to play (unless undamned somehow releases his USB-> DB-15 at lightning speed, then I’d be ready to go without moding the sticks.

hi guys im looking for a ST A&B board but coin express doesnt have stock… wut do?

Are there really any ST bootlegs you know of out there? I know AE can easily be bootleg because it’s the last CPS-2 game but ST was one of the first if not early CPS-2 games so it had a unique board inside the shell. Back in the day they didn’t establish the CPS-2 blueprint so it’s like handmade. ST is suppose to be super hard to boot.

Only widely known CPS-2 bootlegs I know of are AE and that 18 in one. The AE works fine but I here the 18 in one works like shit since there is no fan causing overheating and glitches everywhere.

The mexican seller I was referring to in my earlier post misspelled street fighter as “street fihgter” so do a search on ebay for that and you should get him. He has 2 listings. If i got his typo wrong do a search for cps2 (that’s what I usually do) or Super Street, and you’ll find the listing, but you’ll have to sift through a few pages.

and Ni8wing, Hmm, I’ve only heard of overheating issues, and Glitches were for faulty units for only specific games and not all games… but yeah, Like i said, that’s why I plan to buy the official board anyway, the failure rate of those boots are high.

Malvadisco Did you end up purchasing? I found the listing today at $120 off so I purchased it. (he had two listings) and I didn’t see the other one so I assume you got it?

I also asked the seller if he knew when the battery was replaced… But given the kind of replies he’s given me so far, it seems unlikely that he knows…
