That works thanks =D
Voltech, If you need an ST board I am willing to entertain a trade for one of your sweet cases!
Now you’re talking! PM me lets work out the details
Voltech, Here is a simple CPS2 supergun I just wired up. Has S-Video out and 2 db25 controller ports. Internal power supply. You could easily wire up 2 of your custom sticks to it. This super gun is mainly designed for Cps-2/3/Naomi as I didn’t bother putting sound outputs on it as the A-boards already have RCA sound outs.

Is there a standard pinout for DB-25 controllers the same way as there is for Neo-Geo on DB-15s?
DB15 output sucks. Who would have sticks/pads to work with that? Get toodles boards, only $15 x2 (maybe in addition of the DB15 ports if you want to wire up stick buttons just in case)
And you bastard taunting us with your ST boards.
Nice work Steven! I’m surprised nobody’s building and selling these here? Wire it up so it works with a PSX controller\MC Cthulhu and we got something special.
So you can just wire toodles boards to a PSX pin-out and you can use his MC Cthulhu with it correct?
Consoleized ST Here we come!
The project box steve got from ebay. He knows where to find stuff for cheap. I can’t find another one like that, at least I don’t know how to search.
I guess this is where you come in. You can build these boxes right? Can I have 2?
Yeah, add 2x $15 toodles fighting widget (jamma -> psx/snes/saturn) to the supergun.
Then dual mod your xbox360 pcb with $35 MC Cthulhu. That’s what I did.
I still think that a consolized A board is more convenient. No extra supergun to bring along. No messy harness and kick harness wires to deal with.
Down side is a super gun can work with Cps-1/3/Naomi in addition to CPS2.
But all I play is just ST. and there are enough games for cps2 to make it worthwhile (AE, VS, etc etc)
project boxes are easy to come by.

check out what this guy is doing. CMVS and SuperrGun mods You gotta click the links on his page to see the pics.
Yeah, could you link me to a page where I can click add to cart and checkout ? =]
Steve’s project box comes with power supply, DB15 holes pre-drilled for < $30 iirc
They are DB-25 ports not 15. Yea I paid less than $30… The guy on ebay I bought it from had/has a bunch of them. I considered buying his stock but I don’t need 10 superguns. I believe that they are old SCSI/Hard Drive boxes. They can prolly still be found on the net somewhere. The built-in Power Supply and pre-drilled ports made it a no brainer for a supergun.
Love all this talk of consolized arcade st/cps2 and I am ready to join the join the club…good stuff in this thread.
Alright, (ugh, need to find my avatar again)
So I finished school and I’m shopping around for a supergun again. Nice to see so much information updated on this post. I’ve got some more questions since I’ve done more research.
That $150 supergun from jojoultimate on ebay. The kick harness aren’t included. but I assume the kick harnesses go from (the a board?) to the supergun, and then that translates over to the controller ports?
Also, I think on his listing he said the kick buttons would be mapped to something like, D, start, select. That’s kind of strange, but do converters usually map those to something else on say, a PSX controller (since it has more buttons)? and would I have to remap a modded TE (MCCthulu – I haven’t gotten the mod yet) to have the punches and kicks lined up? (I’m assuming arcades/superguns don’t have button map settings heh)
If I choose to use a psx/ps2 stick, with a converter. Is there a way I can be sure to have the correct button maps and not have to always switch depending on what i’m using it on?
Is the DB15 port and the neo geo controller port the same thing?
Finally, I know the difficulties of having a USB controller in something like this because of how software is handled partly by the periphreal. but I’ve been searching anyway with no luck. Is there a super gun that supports usb controllers? I think in the future it will be very tough to find converters and wires for older systems…
And I’m not really expecting an answer to this last one, since this is not realted to ST or CPS2 (I’ll probably ask tech talk or something) but isn’t NeoGeo MvS slightly different from standard JAMMA connections? How does a supergun which claims to support both safely handle this? some workaround so there’s only one connection? disregarding the slight incompatibility? or having two sockets for the differences?
The JAMMA standard only (effectively) allows for 3 buttons per player. The CPS2-kick harness is wiring that connects to the CPS board, and runs lines for the 3 kick buttons. (It also has some other stuff that you probably don’t care about.)
The JAMMA set-up is common ground. To make it work with a PS1/2 controller, you’ll want to use something like Toodles’ FGWidget converter, or the “Laugh Converter” at http://www.etokki.com/.
You can compare the pinout on Laugh’s site to what the Neo Geo uses. I think D, start, and select might be what people usually use.
I’m not sure what you mean, but since you’re doing your own wiring, the answer is probably yes.
Almost. Actual Neo Geo ports apparently have some kind of housing that means you can’t actually plug standard DB-15 connectors in without cutting the corners off.
It is definitely possible, but I don’t think there’s anything off-the-shelf available. You’ll need a USB host of some kind on the SuperGun, and you’ll have to make your own driver and control logic. Perhaps with an Arduino and one of these: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9947 or one of these: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9713 .
I haven’t really looked into it extensively, but converters are readily available, and not that pricey:
http://www.jammaboards.com/store/neogeo-mvs-to-jamma-adapter/prod_198.html
one thing i want to add, is that if you want to use composite output at all, you absolutely need the sync cleaner board ($15).
Without it, both the $40 jammaboard video encoder or the $90 jrok look horrible on composite out (standard tv video input)
I know what kick harnesses are for. But I was wondering more where to plug them in. They would go from the CPS A / B board (I forgot which one takes them) into a socket in the super gun right? and within the supergun the necessary wires and boards would be there to connect to the controller port? (without me adding anything)? (I’m still referring to the universal supergun on sale by jojoultimate on ebay).
Thanks for the quick reply and through answer. I have a few more Qs from your answers regarding mvs and jamma. but I’ll forward that to tech talk if and when I ever decide to buy a neogeo game. (Or after I purhase my supergun discover that the slot is for mvs rather than jamma)
I’m mainly interested in CPS 1/2 games atm. y’know… SF2 =p If I ever buy neo geo games it would probably be for something like metal slug 4-6
edit: I couldn’t find the ‘laugh converter’ on etokki. You know of any other place that sells it? (I tried googling too =/)
edit2: That was tough. but I found it.

There it is in case anyone comes across this in the future… (I HATE when people post stuff on forums and then go “oh, fixed the problem” / “oh nvm I got it” without posting WHAT they got for people who come across their post in the future ._.
And custom button layout. That’s a life saver. Lets just hope there’s no input lag.
It’s a plug - a bit like the old EIDE connectors, but with slightly different pin spacing/pin count. The harness has quick disconnects.

On the ones I built, I clipped the wires, and soldered to the DB-15 connectors.
Looks like the pinouts are very similar:

CPS1 has a different kick harness.
Sorry. Last time I looked, he was out of stock, but you get the idea.
I used the contact form the other day. and I got an email today saying that the Laugh converters are in stock again… Unfortunately I already went way over my budget. I’m considering whether or not to just make this final purchase or wait till later…
