Super Street Fighter IV AE PC BIG BUG THREAD | Post your AE PC issues here

Hmm nvm hope the update makes my stick compatible.

I’m having severe framerate issues with SSFIV AE on a machine I know is capable of playing the game decently. 9 times out of 10 when I launch the game and start a match I get less than 15 fps (sometimes less than 5). The odd time the game will run properly and I’ll get 60 fps for a round or two before something kicks in, reducing the framerate and rendering the game unplayable again. With similar settings in SFIV vanilla I get a constant 60 fps.

My system:
Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon X2 4200
A8N-SLI Premium motherboard
Geforce GTX 260
2 GB ram

Windows XP was freshly installed a few days ago and there is not much on the hard drive other than Windows, Steam, and Street Fighter 4 (AE and vanilla).

Things I’ve tried:
Reduce graphical settings to minimum
Remove Vsync
Change fixed to variable framerate
Verify game cache on Steam
Reinstall the game from Steam backup
Update Windows
Download the entire game through steam again

Suggestions I’ve tried (from these boards and others):
Hack ini file to turn RenderingThread OFF
Run with D3D Overrider
Disable Realtek audio driver; use Audigy 4 card instead
Disable Steam overlay
Updated drivers to 280.26
Rolled back drivers to 260.99

None of the above tweaks have resolved the problem. Frequently the menus even run with low framerate, and I even have to force quit sometimes when the game freezes at the splash screens. I know this computer is far from top-of-the-line, but it should be able to run SSFIV:AE based on its performance running SFIV vanilla and other modern PC titles.

The only option I can think of at this point is to format again and install Windows 7 on a computer just so that one game will work.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Edit: Updated after trying a few more things
Edit 2: Here are some benchmark screenshots. The only thing that happened between the first and second sets was I let the game idle for a few minutes. It looks like two completely different systems running the game:

Edit 3:

I completely formatted my computer and reinstalled XP. The game is still bugged and becomes unplayable after a short time. I recorded a video of the bug in action:

Biggest issue for me at the moment is the random stuttering that occurs. If I switch to windowed and back to full-screen it goes away, but then it comes back again after 10mins of play.

For what it’s worth, for some reason on my PC I beat the game and they didn’t unlock. They unlocked when I set a Title and Icon. weird

Using SSF4AE Retail Disc Install

When using the 2nd-to-highest resolution (1680x1050 I believe? Sorry I’m at work…), when a character is “lit on fire,” (for example, by Ryu’s EX-Hadouken) there will be a blob of pink coloring in the fire. What makes this even more weird is, if I open the Steam Menu (even though I am playing the retail disc version) and while it’s open I hit the character and light them on fire, the pink is gone! It’s very strange. This was simply fixed by changing my resolution. I’m guessing noone has mentioned this because noone uses that resolution including me, I guess I must’ve picked it by accident.

Thought I would give you a heads up, new drivers (280.26) are now available for the GTX 260, and it mentions SSF4AE in the notes. Something about 3D (who cares) and something else. I have the same card as you and the same problems, so I just downloaded the new drivers. Hopefully this is better for us!

i’ve got two problems. one is that i’m using a cthulhu ps3/pc board and when i map the stick and buttons for it, they don’t save when i play the game later. it’s annoying to always have to remap my stick every time i play the game. for my logitech adapter on my ps2 stick it saves and there’s no problems. what gives?

my second problem may be just in my head but does anybody else notice that you don’t have as much time to do special moves like you do in arcade and console? for example, doing adon’s jaguar tooth which is a half circle motion has to be done a little faster in pc or else nothing comes out. i’ve noticed it with other specials as well.

The game is missing lighting effects unless you use an unofficial patch for the game.

Will have a look, thanks.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately both updating the drivers and rolling back to older drivers had no effect on performance for me.

Setting AE to run in XP mode helped bump performance(on vista or 7) - right click the EXE, properites, compatability tab, mode for XP sp2- and has been super stable since I have as well.

Well, at first I thought they helped, but then it seemed back to the same old grind…

However, these tips posted by diisuki helped a lot, in case you haven’t done these things

Personally, I am using the new drivers, I still have VSync ON, I play on 1080p, but I do have AA off, and my ports were already forwarded. However, turning off “Rendering Thread” in the config.ini file is what seemed to make the biggest impact. I haven’t tried running it in XP Compatibility mode yet, but I will try that tonight. Again, so far since turning off “Rendering Thread” I haven’t felt the need to make any other changes. There will still be slowdown with people who probably haven’t done these things, but when you play with someone who has, MAN is it smooth. I’ve had two incredible nights on Ranked since doing that.

I believe the config.ini file can be found in:

My Documents/Capcom/SSF4AE (or whatever you named it)

or for Windows 7

Documents/Capcom/SSF4AE

Hope this helps!!!

Bought the Retail Disc version yesterday and i must say, ill my previous problems are gone. Its seems the “hacked” version of the game causes a considerable amount of bugs, including tearing and slowdown. The update patch also fixes quite allot of problems. I run it at its default settings and it runs incredible smooth, no slowdown, no nothing. So my guess is that the NO CD exe is probably the source of allot of problems you guys are having. One of my friends owns a computer video games store where i live, so as a huge SF fan, and cause i want to support him, i bought the retail. If you can spare a few bucks get it, and i bet you will less problems.

What are you talking about? The game works without the cd anyway.

I meant the crack dll, my bad.

Im running the Steam version on an HP Envy 15 laptop which flies through the benchmark test. Scored an A at 110FPS.

For almost no reason at all the game suddenly slows down to unplayable speeds regardless of what I am doing after about 20 minutes of play. Training Mode, Versus, Online all the same. I have NOTHING else running at the same time.

It sounds similar to a few things that I have read in this thread. Is there anything to solve this?

What???

If youre running the “hacked” version, you have that file, a dll. So you can play it illegal. I had that version first, cause they got my copy yet at the gamestore. And there is a huge difference between that version and the retail version in performance. Less CPU, no frame lag, no inputlag etc. So i figured, those people who are running that version might encounter a few bumps down the road.

When playing Ranked mode the screen goes black on me and I am forced to reboot in order to fix it. I have no idea what’s causing this and it’s only when I play Ranked. I can play Versus and Endless all day with no problems.
