Super Smash Brothers

When did the new teirs for the game come up? I have’nt seen them on Smashboards or anything.

And I know that it’s a good idea to have a secondary character. But the better players over here seem to over exaggerate the character match-up’s. (Which is pretty much what I meant)

Oo, is there a tier for 4 player battles, that would sound interesting, i was just thinking that bowser would probaly be good in 4 player battles…

The new tier list came out sometime in July or August iirc. I think the thread was titled “2006 tier list” or something like that. And nobody has made a tier list for 4 player situations simply because the scene mainly cares about 1v1 so they probably wouldn’t think it would be worthwhile to make one.

Boo, H-F keeps answering before me >>

And one of the main problems with 4 player FFAs is that nothing’s stopping anybody from choosing sides or picking off the weakest/strongest one first. 2vs2 matches are much better, since they’re basically 1vs1s with tags.

The tiers for 1v1 still apply to 2v2 matches, though a little more thought has to go into which character would make a good teammate.

One of the guys in my area is one of the worst imagineable teammates you could ever have. He plays Falco but the concept of teammork is very hard for him to understand. He plays Falco the same as he does in 1v1 matches so you can guess he’s spamming lasers to no end. And I can’t even begin to count how many times it fucks me over when I comboing the opponent or I’m about to get a kill. And there are plenty of times when I’m wailing on an opponent and he’ll just run up and forward smash into us which again, fucks up my momentum and sometimes results in me getting killed because he’s too incompetant to help me out when I’m getting edgeguarded. I now make it a point not to be his teammate whenever we all play teams. He just never learns.

I stopped keeping track of SSBM since I moved into this vapid comp-less area. So is PC Chris still champ or has Ken reclaimed his title?

The last major tournament I know that Ken won was OC2 back in August, and PC Chris attended it. So I guess it’s safe to say that he has reclaimed his title.

Azen won the MLG NY playoffs this month, which both Ken and PC Chris attended, but I’m going to be waiting for the results from Vegas in November to see who is really the current number 1. PC was 2nd and Ken was 7th, in the playoffs.

Yea I play SSBM. Ganon player, one of the best players in Houston. I’m not saying the best because I can handle and “pwn” my friends and family. I play alot of people, learned from alot of matches, and I have alot of experience. I’m a competitive player, always have and always will. And that’s in any head to head game. I been playing 1v1 since back when SSB came out. After seeing how I and others got cheated with items (exploding capsules and missed wins), that was soon to be taken off. Haha, I think other players feel that grudge against items too. ;>

Although Houston has gotten bad reps from bad players and stupid people who start “wars”, I and most of the people I know can make up for that.

I can say that I’ve tooken SSBM to the point of where it’s like SF2. Most people I play makes it clear that I don’t make the game fun anymore. Being to a certain skill to where I’m too fast to get hit (Wding and Lcanceling), or too fast all around. It’s always been fun. My bro tells me that the people I play have these mean mugging faces and has taken it too seriously. People take SF2 seriously too, but they still have fun playing the game. I like to be concentrated to where I know what I’m doing and I won’t lose.

I think I’ve gotten to a certain skill level to where I can say that the teir list is pure bullshit. I think I can prove that. Isn’t Ganon at the bottom of the middle ranking? Then why in the hell can I beat Falco and Marth players? Hell, what about Krazy Kirby Kid? His Kirby is amazing.

Don’t get me wrong, I still like to play some FFA with items(Just don’t choose no crappy stage like Ice Mountain ;P) on occasions, but I prefer 1v1 better since it’s gotten me really good.

Cool. I was wondering if it was just one of those losses like vs Azen and such.

Man I really feel like playing Samus vs someone now, oh well, gotta wait for Wii…

The old thread got pruned due to inactivity. Or at least I think it did because it doesn’t show up in my searches. shrug

The Melee scene is starting to show signs of upheaval in its competitive hierarchy.

Ken, while still considered the best due to his immaculate Melee record, his title is being consistantly challenged by the likes of Azen, Isai, Chu, Korean Dj, PC, Mewtwo King and others. Ken has lost two MLGs in a row, and its a very exciting time for the community. Ken placed 5th in Orlando, being eliminated by KDJ and Isai, and a relatively horrendous 8th place finish in New York last month, losing to the likes of Azen and M2K – the former of whom just came out of retirement and has had a long history with Ken in finals matches and was able to actually best Ken for his first time.

Also, Team “El Chocolate Diablo”, which consists of Ken and Isai, has been known to be one of the most fearsome teams in competitive gaming history, never losing as much as a set in teams tournaments for the past two and a half years. That streak came to an end in MLG Chicago just 3 months ago, losing to team “Groomblue” which consists of ChillenDude829 and Azen. They have since beaten them again last month in New York.

Very exciting times for the Smash community. Fuck Brawl. Fuck items. Fuck stupid moving stages that have proven time and time again to be ineffective for high level play (even though we do keep on the ones that work, like Rainbow Cruise and Poke’ Floats – which are incidentally probably two of the most mobile/constantly changing stages in the game).

Super Smash Brothers Melee/Brawl & SF/FGC United!?

Now I was at Digital Life a couple of days ago which was held at the Jacob Javitz Center here in New York and to those who dont know Digital Life is a huge gaming expo where media and differnt gaming companies (and non gaming) come to showcase what they’ve got. MLG had tournaments going there GGL, GameTap to name a few. Anyway I was interviewed by GGL along with DA (Deadly Alliances) Wes, Kubu, Dire, and PC Chris on the development of the Smash Borthers and Street Fighter Community. Appearantly there were some poilitical isssues and possibly a lack of communication amongst GGL and SRK which is to why the SF tournament got canceled and the president of GGL had his version of the story but anyway Im not here to talk about that. My main purpose for making this thread is to get somewhat of an understanding to how some of you guys feel about the Smash Community…honestly.
Now i know srk has been hating on the Smash community for quite some time and dont recognize Smash as a Fighting game which I dont understand why but anyway
the scene seems very organized and theyre pots are huge which has intrigued guys like me and Justin and possibly others for getting into Brawl. To my understanding Valle has an interest in it as well but who knows. Since Brawl wont be out for another year i figured this is the best time to get into the game.
To my knowledge Brawl will be at the next Evolution so what do you guys really think about adding Melee to events like Final Round and other majors/regionals.
Thoughts!?

im jumping on brawl as well. i think its gonna be a strong game, as well as vf5, next year, in the us.

the game is just different. i didnt care for ssb at first, but then depth and real gameplay started to sneak out of it after a while and it started to come into its own and escape the typical cliche nintendo party game. i think brawl will be big. i cant sit here and keep playing the same old games forever. bring on vf5, and ssbb too =)

Sabre thats good stuff. Thing is I realized it was gonna jump off for awhile now. I’ve actually been scouting those guys for awhile at the same time im gonna have some of the best players train me so give me a month with Melee and I’ll be terrorizing!
Yeah but seriously you should just start out with Melee since 1 Brawl is using the same engine and 2 it wont be out till late next year which is why i just decided to play Melee harcore.
Also yeah I agree the same shit every year all the time is getting stale. Keep the old stuff but change up every once and awhile and try something new. People are too afraid of risk these days.

My sources say that any speculation on any evo2k7 games is way premature, even to be called a rumor. There seems to be no position one way or another on that game at this time.

Brawl will be tight… shit I play Smash because im tired of Tekken and SF sometimes.

JeRon - good post man.

I love Smash. I hate the Smash players. I hate the people who complain about edge-hogging. I hate the people who complain about spiking (j2A for most characters). I hate the people who say Smash is balanced. I hate the people who complain about wave dashing. I hate the people who complain when I beat three of them in a team battle.

Most of all, I hate the people who say Smash is the best fighting game around. The entire Smash community is SO ridiculously infested with scrubs that they’re not even worth acknowledging.

Smash is a good enough game to acknowledge, though.

Well my sources say otherwise! See I know most of the inside/side political stuff that goes on with guys like GGL and SRK so its no secret to me! Hmmm Evo has a 5K Mario Kart DS tournament and Brwal comes out next year… Go figure right!
Most of the politics with some of these leauges and companies is funny to me so i dont really care to get into talking about them too much but best believe im fully aware of whats going on. The industry and media is picking up on it hard so why wouldnt anyone want to adopt it. Not to get off topic but these big leagues and such are looking for a bigger market that can make them money, nothing more they dont care about the community but thats where we come in.

YoungIc3: Same shit different day right! The fact that Smash is so different is what will spark interest more or les but yeah it has to be put out there first and thanks!

Well people complain everywhere, they do it in the FG community too so whats your point. RC’s cheap, Kara’s cheap! People are still gonna play otherwise they just quit…its simple.
Also to say that the community is a bunch of scrubs that arent worth acknowledging is way outta line and farfetched bro. That just sounds like hate!

Who do you play in Melee Jeron?

I tried getting into SSBM (I played Peach) but in all honesty the likes of Shiek / Fox really makes some of the top tier in even regular SF games look rather meek in comparison. I was there at Digital Life myself, and there had to been 20+ stations, but as far as my eye could see, there was AT LEAST one fox on every station playing. Bah.
