Here’s the deal. I don’t think third party characters are magically just going to show up as guests… but special ones might. What I mean by special is characters that have retained their popularity, and inviduality. Characters like Crash, Rayman, and now even Sonic are on numerous systems and just jump around multiplatfrom with some form of mario-ish game ripoffs.
To give an example, I’d say Cloud. Maybe a main Capcom character. They also need to be one the parties’ main characters. Characters like Viewtiful Joe really don’t work, either. Characters that aren’t like the ones above and truly represent the company.
For the poeple talking about More ground game, I think that target combos and and ground EX specials would help that so everything isn’t so areial.
If you’re wanting me to directly respond to your quote, then I never said that I think that they don’t fit (at least in terms of how they were animated in a non-“kiddy” style since you mentioned aethestics).
However, you make some good points, especially with Uematsu Nobuo being on board. Though I don’t know if he’d care as much as Kojima supposedly has about getting his characters into the game. Does anyone even know how Uematsu feels about FF7 in general or at least Advent Children?
My main “problem” with the aforementioned characters–besides their horrid, horrid fanboys–is that there will be LOTS and LOTS of bitching from FF7 haters, especially if there are quite a bit of people already bitter by the poison taint of Solid Snake.
And I honestly can’t say that I wouldn’t be one of them, though I don’t consider myself of a person that hates FF7, merely its fanboys.
There Will Be EDIT: I’m really hoping that we see a TMNT character as “compensation” should that happen.

If Nintendo’s smart (and I think they’re very smart), they’ll realize this is a chance to make the Wii attractive to more than just bubbly Nintendo fans. There’s no denying the impact having characters like Cloud and Sephy in a high quality, first party fighting game such as Brawl, would have. All of a sudden it’s more than just making the dream game for Nintendo fans and more about making the dream game for gamers in general. If any one company could pull of a real, industry-wide, all-star party fighting game, I believe it to be Nintendo.
Melee was a nod to Nintendo fanatics. Brawl could be a nod to gamers everywhere.
A party fighter with mass appeal? I’ll take two please.

I also think people are going a little crazy with the whole third party thing. Lets hope for Sonic to be included in the game first before we start jerking off to Seph and Cloud possibilities. Seph and Cloud ? Before Little Mac ? That is totally retarded.
Also I agree with Sho2, they need a fighting pokemon, preferably Hitmonlee, Heracross, or Primeape.
If Heracross was in the game I’d go crazy. ( but of course that isn’t going to happen, but here is hoping it does )

With all the modes, nostalgia, trophys, and all that extra jazz that was in Melee, how in the hell could brawl top that? That would be quite a feat.
I thought the same thing with N64 one.

That’s the only thing that keeps me from getting excited now.
If they put Sephiroth in there…he’d be top tier…his Masamune blade would be more stupid then even Marth’s, unless they totally beef him down I suppose. Also, I doubt that any of the FF characters would make it into the game quite honestly. Anyways, this game does look cool, but I’ll let my buddy get the Wii, I’m aiming for the PS3…btw, here’s crossing my fingers that they make Link faster in this game…and give him back his running attack from the first one…his SSBM one blows.
While I do think Snake is a cool addition to Smash, I do hope they do not go overboard with 3rd party characters, specifically characters from more mature games (e.g. Dante of DMC). Also, I think a rule for any 3rd party character to be in Smash should be that that character was actually in a game on a NINTENDO system, which would rule out Cloud and Seph (at least as far as I know). I personally would love to see Edgar from FFVI or Terra. But, in all honesty I think an FF character that would fit in perfectly for Smash would be Mog. Other characters that I think should make the cut though are Little Mac, Sonic, and Bomberman. I do think Viewtiful Joe would make a good Smash character, but I don’t know how they would implement his VFX powers in the game without making him broken.
imo viewtiful joe fits in perfectly w/ all them, although the issue is how do they use his powers? can’t do zoom or slowdown/speedup stuff exactly.
and i know i’ve been telling everyone this, but snake needs a command grap where he plants c4 on someone’s back, and after 5 seconds, it blows up, dealing decent damage to everyone in the blast radius
Keep your thoughts on the SSB community and how its tourney scene is ran in the old ass smash thread(s) that I’m quite sure are still around since I never deleted them myself despite wanting to a good number of times. What happened to the old days where people could talk about the topic at hand for a new game without bringing up old shit that already has its place?
So, if anyone else feels they need to argue the current SSB tourney trends, I’ll gladly give you a ban until Brawl comes out. Preferably in the region that gets it last.

Everyone keeps talking about FF characters, but if square is involved why even focus on that? Square license = Chrono Trigger = Crono/Frog/Magus. Not to mention a Magus’s tower stage 
I hope they haven’t nerfed Captain Falcon. Is still wanna small jump Electric Knee people in the face, hehe.
