What I think is also interesting is that, in the Sakurai interview they talked about earlier, Sakurai wanted to also show some more love for the single-player mode than what has been given in the two previous games.
If that’s true, then perhaps they could actually use that mode as a way to unlock more of the stuff, rather than waiting some amount of time for the likes of Mewtwo to unviel himself.
Also, you know who I think would be great to see, in spite of the sheer “WTF” factor they would represent…?
Kevin Keene, or otherwise known as Captain N. Complete with having his dog, Duke, and possibly the original GameBoy as helpers invovled with his attacks.
But really, think about it! If Mega Man, Pit (Kid Icarus), Samus Aran* and Simon Belmont ALL happened to be in this game, we’d practically have the “N-Team” re-united for the first time in a decade! It would be something for all of us old-heads who gave up our Saturday mornings to watch the “Nintendo hour” back in the day.
Plus, if Nintendo was ever interested in the idea of copying the basic dynamic that Kingdom Hearts used, a re-vamped, re-launched Captain N could easily do the job, and just use the “Smash Bros.” world as a basis…
(*Yes, Samus too. Those of you who used to get the Nintendo Comics that Valiant used to put out would remember that Samus pretty much took the place of both Simon and Megaman, because of liscensing restrictions.)

Actually, quite a few people on the net have brung up Captain N. Would be awesome if that happened. From Captain N, we have -

Mario - Kiiiind of. The Warp Zones used in Captain N were from Super Mario Bros, they even used the same sound effect. But Mario has never appeared on Captain N, even though Super Mario 3 and 4 shared the same animation block with Captain N.
Megaman - Who has a good chance of being in this game
No Solid Snake of course, but they did feature Konami’s other game, Castlevania a lot.
But Captain N has issues. A few people hate on it, “Megaman is not green and Simon is not a tool!” Plus I don’t think anyone in Japan knows enough about it to vote for it, even if they did air it in Japan at some point Japan doesn’t give too many reruns, so it would of ran once and that’s it…
Maybe if they extend the voting to the US things might be different, maybe. I know we can technically vote for Captain N ourselves but I still think mostly Japanese are going to / and are voting because that’s the only way I can think of Sonic not being a top pick over there…
Nintendo ‘kind of’ has the rights to Captain N. It began as a comic in Nintendo Power, Nintendo stole it and had Dic turn it into a cartoon. So they could in theory use Captain N, but if they used anything that was specific to the cartoon, like his voice they’d prolly have to write Dic a check. Not that I know much about licensing and rights issues…
Whatever they do I’ll imagine this game takes place in Video Land / Captain N’s world because that is like a billion times better than a bunch of toys coming to life and fighting…
Well since Ouendan is a Japan only game, maybe Japan will get an Ouendan character and we’ll get Captain N instead! Ah, in a perfect world…

As far as Snake Nintendo agreed to put him in the game as long as the creators make an “exclusive” Metal Gear game for they’re system. No ports either. Thats the contract deal.

Wizard Ganon: Zelda to Sheik…Gannondorf to Wizard (Pigface) Ganon makes sense to me.

Lol, I remember the bootleg Captain N, The Power Team! They had Johnny Arcade in the cartoon, then they had Johnny Arcade in real life segments who was nothing like his cartoon counterpart! And then they spun it off to a video game type game show with Johnny Arcade as the host, and people would try to stump him on his gaming knowledge for a prize. The Wizard Malkil of Wizards and Warriors appeared on both Captain N and the Power Team toons and looked really different in both shows, in Power Team he was a regular wizard, but in Captain N he looked like a light blue talking monkey, Captain N design staff was on drugs I swear!
I heard from Shin Bata Kun of Madman’s Cafe who I talk to on AIM a lot that the man who played Segata Sanshiro Fujioka Hiroshi was providing a voice in the new Pocket Monsters AKA Pokemon movie. We live in very strange times…
According to Gamefaqs Ridley was also mentioned in the Japanese comment board, as a boss character. (Yes! Ridley >>>>> Glove)
For the Captain N watchers Ridley also appeared on the show in one of the Metroid episodes. Course he looked like a red dragon and nothing like Ridley… did I mention the Captain N character designers were on drugs? Kraid appeared in a few episodes and even spoke once.
I plan to request Captain N with my next suggestion. So far I’ve requested Sonic, asked that Pichu not be removed and that the “clones” become less clone-like (ala Luigi), and to fix the messed up scoring system in Time battles.
I’m trying to think of how to word the Captain N suggestion in such a way that it won’t be immediately dismissed. Plus I have to stay within 1000 characters (as in letters, numbers, spaces, etc.)…

Samus better have green hair(not to mention red and purple) as a pallete swap. I freakin hate blond samus.
Lara Croft wouldnt be a bad idea although I dont know if the japanese would care(heck im not really a fan of her either). If they are going for icons it would make sense. Snake vs Lara vs Samus vs Mario sounds like a dream match if I ever heard one.
Thinking about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave Luigi a gimped situation super instead of flashy full screen fireball like Mario.
The best super I can think for him would be a sort of multiple hitting pyscho crusher move, that hopefully doesn’t throw him off the stage all the time.

Great suggestion on SMB 3 Mario as a character, he could change into his suits, very creative.

They never said so. What they said, is that adding other non-Nintendo characters is not out of the question. Then the ‘character suggestion box’ page appeared at Nintendo Japan’s site. You can do the math
So as of right now, there is no definities on if any other character will be added, and if so, how many.
