Super Skrull Question & Answer Thread

Hey guys I’m new to UMvC3 and I decided to pick up Super Skrull/Spencer and Frank West and I apologize if my question sounds pretty stupid but how exactly are Skrull players OTG’ing Skrull’s Stone Smite? Everytime I try to use Stone Smite after a hard-knockdown I can never get it to connect…by the time I’m done charging the move the character is already up…any tips on using this OTG?

Thank you.

Learning to OTG with Stone Smite requires some good timing and may be hard to newcomers. What you want to do is when you do an air combo, you want to delay your inputs so you’re already starting to land when you complete the air combo then as soon as you recover, hold H. If you time it early you will just stand there because he won’t charge and if you time it late, you’ll miss and might get punished. So practice that timing and you’ll be getting max damage on your combos.

You can combine it with Joe’s bomb assist to combo extend.

Same with Doom’s Missiles.

Same with Storm’s Typhoon.

Can someone test (generic air combo) stone dunk cross-under reset, cancel stone dunk into meteor smash to cross back over again.

I bet you can!

my disk arrived and I couldn’t get anything to work along that line. shrug

Question about Death Penalty; when is it possible to connect with it? I tried replacing inferno with it after the meteor smash in my bnb, but it seems to only connect in certain instances. Vajra solves everything, but I’d like to know how else I could lead into it.

If you used two ground bounces in the same combo then try to DP, it’ll just wiff since they recover mid-air. You can also tenderize after an air combo then cancel tender to DP.

i have a problem, after i do a standard ground magic series then into an air magic series i can never connect the stone smite, i hear you have to slightly delay the S but whenever i try the opponent just flips out. i also try to hit M as soon as i launch them into the air to help me get closer to the ground but the timing on it is still really hard for me

is there anyway to help me get the timing down on it?

If you’re in the corner there’s an easy way to do it. The timing is different when jumping diagonally.

In corner, you want to delay hitting anything after launching. Same kinda goes for diagonal jumps. Instead of pressing buttons slower(which chances of dropping out), try launching, wait a sec, then pressing buttons at regular speed, and you should be in the right timing to land and stone smite.

wow i didnt expect a reply so fast, thanks alot, ill give it a shot

by the way nasty, i dont mean to dick ride to hard but my friend showed me your super skrull guide and your victory against filipino champ in ultimate norcal vs capcom 2 and i gotta say i really admire your skrull, hes my favorite character with his option selects and you definatley make me wanna stick wtth him even though i tend to tenderizer alot. i know your probably busy but when you get the chance id love to see some more battles with your skrull, ive already watched all your youtube ones and just cant get enough of that skrull ownage.

I roam through here time to time. Just so happened to catch me online.

Hey I don’t mind. I’ve been getting mad respect ever since that event, and I’m grateful for it. I’m actually making a second guide if you haven’t noticed already, so be on the lookout for that. I post some of my tournament matches on the Skrull Play! thread so you can see me play there. I don’t like playing online so that’s why I’ve been inactive on making vids for ranked matches. I also play on Peaceful Jay’s stream time-to-time. Probably once a day, despite me having just said I don’t like online. I have been getting a lot of messages for more online play, so I’ll try to record more ranked for everyone.

Hey guys. I’m somewhat of a new skrull player, more like finally getting serious with him a month or so just before the release of Ultimate and I need a lil help. Lately I’ve been running Vergil (Rapid Dash)/???/ Skrull (Smite Assist) and I can’t seem to nail that third person. I really don’t want it to be Wesker, Sentinel, Dante or Doom. Been leaning more towards Jill because I’m a big fan of her Feral Crouch and Mad Beast, but she doesn’t have the OTG needed, either as an assist or alone and the Smite Assist just isn’t fast enough to help her. Tried C. Viper with seismo assist, and it works, but I’m not technical enough to handle her really advanced combos. Just the basic double jump combo into seismo then burst drive. Same issue with Iron man and his fly/unfly combos or even X-23 (I really can’t grasp her that well).

I really want to stick with Vergil/Jill/Skrull, for their great mix-up potential and skill individual characters (despite jill have low damage output) but I just don’t know how to make them work as a team. Any advice? Can they work together with any assist changes to any of them? Or are they just too different and I’ll just have to bite the bullet and replace Jill? If so, then who fits? I’m loyal to Vergil as one of my favorite video game villains so I don’t want to switch him and I’m loyal to Skrull from vanilla and a really good fan of his tricks, combos, and potential in any team. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I’m a strong believer in the vast versatility of this game. Unlike its predecessor, just about any character on the roster can do damage, execute strategies, and fight against other, popular characters and teams. The main factor is the player. Combofiend agrees as well when in an interview he said, “It’s hard for me to study matchups because pretty much every character in this game can do damage.”

I can’t give you too much information about that team because I don’t know too much about Vergil or Jill. All I can really focus on is that you shouldn’t have to bite any bullets if you simply be creative, innovative, and persevere. What I do know is that if I were you, I would switch S. Smite with another assist that would aid in reset/mixup potential. Smite is really slow and it’s only purpose is extending combos. I see its use as gimmicky and unnecessary because I know Vergil and Jill don’t need an OTG assist to do good damage; why choose an assist that has one, limited purpose versus another that can have several?

Note that I don’t play Jill, but I think her Gun Spray super OTGs. Try calling Tenderizer or Orbital Grudge right before you super after a hard knockdown. Both of these might be able to lock down the opponent long enough to extend combos anyway, though I can see this more likely happening with Tenderizer than Orbital. If neither of them don’t, then try turning it into a reset. I heard someone say on the boards that Jill is a ground based fighter, so Orbital will also be able to help you control space. If you have reflexes and they get hit, you can take advantage and get an easy pick up. If not, then turn it into a block string or go for a crossup (which I’m sure Jill would have).

Thanks Cerei. I was so set on the Stone Smite assist (For a Vergil l,m,h, f. h, s, m, m, h, s, Smite assist, Lunar Phase, Summon Swords, Lunar Phase, High Time otg, Dimension Slash combo) that I got a little discouraged, but the Tenderizer assist really did help both Jill and Vergil in a way I didn’t think it would and as a team they really do have some good synergy and vicious tricks/mind games/mix-up potential. It really helps me live up to my handle (Jester), but I’m a little worried about Hit Stun Scaling on the Tenderizer assist though. I know the last hit scales particularly hard when playing as Skrull and I’m not sure if it’s the same as an assist. His Orbital grunge is pretty ok, but it doesn’t hold them up long enough after Jill’s Machine Gun Spray so I think I’ll stick with Tenderizer for the time being.

I’ll toy around with Jill and Skrull next time I get a chance…oh wait, I forgot that I have to buy her first. :bluu:

Where can I finds a comprehensive list of tech and stuff that still works? the OP of the stickied threads still seem to have Vanilla stuff in there.

Actually, I can’t think of a single tech that was done in vanilla that doesn’t work anymore; most of the stuff done with Skrull in this game isn’t necessarily new. Some resets are different, like using Spidey’s Web Ball because it’s techable now, but other than that… Skrull gained much more tricks than he lost in Ultimate. When I was looking at mostly vanilla stuff.
