For those don’t know, keep in mind the Euro displays can differ in lag performance to the NA displays in the same given models.
Sad but true.
This intrigues me as well. I’ve never been for lag and as such’ were I to make the switch I’d insist on having the biggest, fanciest, hi-deffiest piece of shit tv possible.
This thread is great for anyone from USA, but as someone from UK I can’t find any of these monitors! D:
Can anyone from UK / Europe tell me a ~24" lagless monitor on Amazon.co.uk? THANKS
I haven’t tried out this monitor yet, but this review says that it’s good for gaming and the input lag is around 5ms - http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_s2440l.htm
Finally managed to remember what this thread was called after the forum transition. Woohoo.
According to the Leo Bodnar lag test device, Samsung S24B350HL (24" class LED w/ HDMI) has about 10ms input latency.
I don’t have the rest of my devices exact numbers here, but can post them when I get home.
The essentials are that both of my big TVs (Samsung 55" LED UN55D7000, and Plasma PN51D7000, are about 31ms or just under 2 frames of input lag. Asus Evo monitor VH236H tested sub-1 frame, but I guess we knew that.
I’ll see if I can find my spreadsheet of the different screen input latencies when I get home, but the only two that were applicable to this thread were the VH236H and the Samsung S24B350HL.
Does anyone have any experience with BenQ gaming monitors? They are the standard at MLG for StarCraft and CoD. They are rated at 1ms. I know EVO uses Asus but those are rated at 2ms.
I’m thinking of getting a monitor to bring to local tournaments. Right now I have an old Samsung rated at 2ms but it doesn’t have HDMI. I run it through an adapter. There is no video lag because DVI and HDMI use the same video signal. I just route the sound to a cheap set of speakers. The whole set up is a bitch to carry though. BenQ is more expensive than the Asus so I was wondering if they are worth the investment.

I would like a review from tftcentral of Benq RL2455HM, released only a month ago (around 200€ in EU).
I believe you’re confused on a few things. However, to address only the one that this thread revolves around: Look up the differences between “Refresh rate” (which I believe are the numbers that you’re referencing), and “Input lag/latency”, which is what I believe you think you need. For the most part, low input lag is not required for FPS and RTS games, at least once they are in a reasonable range (>~32ms is widely regarded as acceptable for those game types).
Ah I remember now. The what companies advertise as “response time” is pixel response time. Which measures how long it takes the pixels to respond to movement on the screen.
We are concerned with input response time. Which that would the time it takes for the source signal to be processed and sent to the screen. So theoretically a 3-4ms pixel response time with a really low input response would be better?
Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m trying to wrap my head around this.
My second question is, how on earth do you find out how much input latency is in a monitor? I’ve never seen a manufacturer advertise that.
Curious if anyone has any experience with the Asus VX238H. Newegg is currently having a $20 off deal until 4/15

Better than what, exactly?

You kindof don’t, which is why this thread is full of frustrated people asking questions like “Does anyone know if monitor X doesn’t suck?” There are a few sites that test this stuff http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/, http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ and Anandtech does it now too, but if the monitor you have a question about isn’t listed on any of those (and it’s probably not) then you have to test it yourself, which involves buying it. (And a bunch of other stuff that is relatively nontrivial, and you’re probably not equipped to do if you are just learning about this stuff.)
So yeah. Fun times.
