I am in the market as well. I opted out of a dynex, so Im looking at a Sceptre or anything between the 180-250 range.
I wonder if its asking to much to find a 40 inch LED 3D TV that i can play games on and my fighters wont lag lol. Just free’d up some space on the credit card :3
Find one that has inputs other than HDMI.
I have the Samsung one and it lags the same on all inputs.
How much input lag does the BenQ GL2450HM have? I have it and it’s pretty good but I’m wondering if I can get something even better.
Honestly if you wanna go that big for a gaming TV, you’ll wanna get a plasma. Big LCD and LED TVs have lots of input lag and motion blur, definitely not ideal for gaming. I’m not sure about the availability of 3D plasma TVs, though.
If you do decide to go the plasma route, I recommend Panasonic because their plasma TVs only have about a frame (16ms) of lag.
Sorry if that’s not the answer you wanted to hear, but the simple fact is you won’t find an LED TV that big that doesn’t lag at least a few frames.
I’ve been using a Panasonic L47E50 (IPS-LCD) with my PS3 and though I haven’t tested it yet, it feels nearly lagless. If you’re not too picky, there’s few to choose from. For reference, I also play on PC using a VH238H and the difference in lag between the setups is very hard to detect.
I suppose its all relative to how sensitive you are to the lag. Personally, I could never play on a TV like that without getting frustrated due to the lag.
I just wanted to chime in. I recently bought the Panasonic TC-P50ST50, and after reading the original post, I’m surprised to see that there is only 16ms of lag. I definitely felt there was input lag right away, and have been dropping combos compared to when I play on my CRT.
Thanks for starting this thread.
FWIW, I have a TC-P60ST30 and after getting a VH236H and putting my xbox on that, I’ve been much more consistent with combos.
If you’re used to playing on a CRT, it’s no surprise that you can feel 1 frame (16ms) of lag. When I took my first steps into the world of HD gaming, I originally bought a Panasonic TC-P50UT50, and I could feel the lag. I promptly returned the TV.
Unfortunately you and me are part of the minority that is very sensitive to lag. Some people can subconcsiously compensate for lag and still enjoy the game just the same, but I for one have a very hard time enjoying a game if I can notice any lag.
If 16ms of lag bothers you, you have 2 other options for HD gaming. 1, you can get an LCD or LED monitor. These tend to have single digit amounts of lag and are the standard for professional gaming. The downside is that they’re very small. Or 2, you could scour Craigslist for an HD CRT. These have incredibly low input lag, usually only a few milliseconds and some can be calibrated to have 0ms lag. These can be found up to 40 inches, but the one that is generally agreed to be the best is the Sony KD-34XBR960. This TV is widescreen, 1080i HD, 34", and has a “super-fine picture tube”, making the picture clarity beyond what even LCD and plasma can produce.
I own both of the two examples I gave, the BenQ GL2450HM 24" LED monitor and the Sony TV I mentioned. The BenQ monitor is awesome and has a very small amount of lag. But the Sony TV is phenomenal, with ~0ms lag, but unfortunately I’m having a problem with that TV that I’m currently trying to figure out how to fix. (there’s a layer of static over the image; anyone have any ideas?)
Lol, that’s probably more of an elaborate answer than you were looking for. Either way, good luck with whatever you choose.

Was is ever determined if Game Mode on the vh236h was explicitly the only one with low lag, or if it just was a color / brightness setting, with all modes exhibiting the same amount of lag.
Whats a CRT, can you givce me afew example and where can you buy them?
Thanks
CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. It’s the type of TV that has a big boxy back and is heavy as sh*t. Most CRTs are standard definition, but there were a few HD ones made towards the end of CRT’s production lifespan. The best HD CRT TVs are the Sony KD XBR series. Unfortunately CRTs are no longer made and so retail stores no longer sell them (as you very well know, it’s all about flat panels today) but if you’re lucky you can find some in good condition in your area through Craigslist. Look for any Sony model that begins with KD and has XBR in it. Good luck.
I remember skimming through Craigslist once and saw someone list their HD CRT as weighing close to 150lb. Those things are beastly.

The one I have is 190lbs, haha. Me my dad and my uncle carried it and it was still extremely difficult.

How is lag with the 3DTVs? Are there any low/no lag 3DTVs (or monitors) in both 3D and 2D mode, or at least just 2D mode?
I’m going to ask again because I didn’t get a response the first time and still can’t seem to find any information on the subject…
Has anyone tested whether or not using a composite-to-vga or component-to-dvi converter works with a monitor that has low input lag? I play a lot of old-school games and can’t stand the lag that comes with recent LCDs. 16ms is far too noticeable (I’m a ssbm player).
I’ve been looking into the Dell S2740L for gaming, and it seems like my best bet for my PC setup, but I’m not sure if using a display converter would work for my console gaming. Is there any way to test this or verify that the lag is the same for both standard HDMI/DVI connections and component-to-dvi converters?
I’ve read in several places it’s just color and brightness and no affects on input lag. Personally I use game mode and turn down the brightness to around 30-40.

Would this be a widely available option that at least allows us to pin down the input lag of monitors to the nearest frame?
I just got this TV. Can anyone tell me how much of a lag it has and how to fix it? I tried to play Mortal Kombat with “Game Mode” on and it still feels laggy, I can’t land my BnBs, and I know it’s not me.
And yes, I went to the TV site linked in the OP and searched this TV, but couldn’t find it. If anyone can give me info on how to get the best possible response time for this TV, and tell me how much lag it has and how to resolve it, I’ll greatly appreciate it. I also play on an Xbox 360, so if you can also tell me what settings to put my console at that’d be really helpful.
