Sub 1 frame HDTV/Monitor Input Lag Database

So… Asus just released a new version of their 27 inch LED lit monitors. This one is flaunting a 1ms response time compared to the usual 2-5ms on the other models, but I haven’t been able to find any input lag test results on it since it’s so new. There’s a review on Newegg that says it’s good with input lag, and tested through Street Fighter, but no hard evidence. Here’s the link with description/techspecs

Hey guys, I’m new here. Love what you’ve done with the place; it’s just fabulous.

I’ve been looking for a TV/monitor for both console use and PC gaming. Monitors seem to have the lowest refresh rate, compared to LCD TV’s at least. What I need to know is if I can convert composite cable to VGA and still have the lower input lag of the LCD monitor. Or should I just say fuck it and get the lowest delay LCD TV?

Thanks

Google searched for this the other day but anyone know the input lag for the VH232H and whether it’s the same screen size as the VH236H?

Got a VH236H last week and the only thing I regret is not getting it a year ago

Incredible monitor for the money!

Dell S2440L sounds pretty good; 5ms average, 6ms maximum input lag. No built-in speakers, but has an audio out port to use external (Which I would do even if it did have built-in ones). Been using an Asus VH238H, but I’m tempted to give this a shot…

The Dell S2740L sounds even better. Bigger, even less input lag (3.2ms average, 4 maximum), IPS…

Where did you find this information?

Prad review.

Alright so I have had a Sharp Aquos LC-C6077UN (for those who care) for about 2 years now. I mostly play adventure and racing games, my friend got me back into street fighter a year ago and I want to blame his relentless pummeling of my face on lag. But he tells me to stop bitching and that I suck big floppy donkey dick (i don’t think i suck:(). My tv has a game mode but I never really used it until previous posts told me to. I don’t think I can tell if my tv has bad input lag or if its reponse time. I already searched google and this forum, but alas I cannot find what the lag time is for my tv. If some one has any info on this I would appriciate you sharing. I would try and test it myself but (there is always a but) i dont have the equipment or programs to run any of the complicated tests that are listed on the first page. Thanks in advance

Download the Rockband Blitz demo, and do the video lag and sound lag configuration test. It won’t be precise, but at least you’ll get an ideal how much lag there is.

I’ve got a question: I’m thinking of buying a new monitor, and the ones I have in mind have hdmi input too, like most new monitors. Will using hdmi cause more input lag over vga or is it the other way around? Also say there is lag, what numbers are we usually talking about, because I could probably live with 1ms difference

I can’t decide between the Asus VH236H or the BenQ gl2450hm. The LED seems more intriguing. I mainly play fighting games and FPS.

Just get the VH238H then. It’s the same monitor as the VH236H but with LED backlighting.

Thinking abot getting either the Asus VE248H or the Asus VS248H-P. They are both 24" 1080p 2ms LED monitors and their specs are almost identical except for the contrast ratio. Does anyone know the input lag for either or both of these monitors?

Anybody with experience on Samsung HDTVs? I’m looking at some of their larger TVs for general use and wondering if it’s low lag.

This is gonna be brief because I don’t have a ton of time but:

  1. HDMI doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have more lag than VGA. It’s true that a lot of time monitors output via VGA without post-processing (which means that it has less input lag), but that isn’t always the case. Get a monitor on the list on the first post and you’ll be fine outputting via HDMI.
  2. If there is lag, you can have half a frame, one frame, several frames, etc. Go to a Best Buy or WalMart that has a bunch of TVs lined up and see if you can tell that some of them are way behind the others. It’s most likely because they have much higher input lag (due to post processing).
  3. If there is lag, 1ms will be imperceptible. You’d be looking at ~8-16ms for a great nearly lagless monitor and anything higher will have “noticeable” lag. Not really noticeable for everyone, but noticeable for a large percentage of tournament-quality players.

Anandtech just put up a new review for an Asus 27" IPS (well, they call it PLS but it’s mostly the same thing). They did figure out that the high lag on larger IPS panels isn’t caused by image stretching as they had the same results using 1920x1080 as they did with 2560x1440. So, basically, it’s their tech that is causing the problem. The monitor for those who do not want to read had 28.2MS of input lag.

Alrigh so I tried this method. Can I comfortably say that my tv has around 5 ms input lag on game mode? Here is a picture of my screen.

Has anybody tested the Asus PB238Q? I’m wondering if the display lag is the same as the PA238Q? I’m hoping it uses the same panel, and that the only difference between the two is the advanced color controls on the PA238Q.
